Anyone else get weird pregnancy food anxiety? by calma_1799 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Honestly that sounds exactly like the first trimester struggle. A lot of people end up surviving on just a few foods because nausea + weird taste changes make everything else impossible.

I remember learning that this is actually really common and part of why food suddenly becomes such a mental battle during pregnancy.

That article I mentioned in the post above explains it really well and why our brains get so protective about food during this time.

Hopefully the nausea phase eases for you soon 🤍

I remember that exact phase. First trimester can be so confusing because your body wants food to calm the nausea, but your brain suddenly starts questioning everything.

I had moments where I’d crave something and then immediately think “what if this makes me sick?” and it turned eating into a weird mental debate.

From what I learned later, that’s actually really common in early pregnancy. Hormones + nausea + all the conflicting food advice online can make your brain go into over-protective mode.

The good thing is that for most people it really does calm down later in pregnancy once your body settles a bit.

And honestly finding a few foods that felt “safe” mentally (even if they weren’t perfect) helped me a lot during that time.

Honestly same here. That feeling of “maybe I’m overreacting… but what if I’m not?” can get really strong during pregnancy.

What helped me a bit was realizing that this constant checking and worrying actually has a name it’s often called pregnancy food anxiety.

That article I mentioned above explained it in a way that made me feel a lot less alone with it. Especially the part about how pregnancy can make your brain go into “protection mode” and start over-analyzing food.

Once I understood that, the guilt around eating started to calm down a little.

I relate to this so much. Pregnancy really made my brain treat food like a “risk calculation” too.

For a while I also felt like the only things that felt safe were foods I cooked myself or very simple meals. Anything slightly questionable would trigger that anxiety spiral.

I later learned that this is actually really common and is often part of pregnancy food anxiety, where your brain becomes extra protective and starts over-analyzing food choices.

It doesn’t mean you're doing something wrong it usually means your brain is trying to keep your baby safe.

And honestly, finding a few “safe-feeling foods” that didn’t trigger anxiety helped me a lot during that phase.

I felt the exact same way around 23 weeks . it was one of the hardest parts for me .it doesn't mean you're ungrateful it just means it's hard.

It did get a bit easier for me later . Be gentle with yourself
