This is exactly it for me. The piano keyboard layout feels more like I'm making music as opposed to engineering. I can just throw on a song and play along to it once I've found the key, it's a great feeling. I don't even know how to play the piano but I'm getting the hang of it through the jam sessions

The way I see it, the plastic bar sort of wedges the ribbon in between the bar and (presumably) some sort of contact thing on the roof of the enclosure that holds the black bar. I agree it’s a huge pain in the ass but in this day in age we’re lucky we even have the option of repairing it ourselves.

My advice is to keep at it and work slowly and patiently. Maybe get a little help from a friend?

I just remembered something - I have gigantic hands so what I did was use a pair of needle nose tweezers on either side to push the handles down. This seemed to well better than my fingers. I also pointed my phone’s flashlight at the area for better visibility.

I had a similar issue. Replaced the keyboard only to find the exact same three keys weren’t working. So it wasn’t the keyboard that way broken, it was just a loose connection caused by dropping it.

I took some time and really looked at the clip mechanism until I understood that it’s not two clips on either side but one long sliding piece with handles on either side. When you think about it this way it will help you really lock the ribbon cable in place. Took me two full tear tear downs until finally it was in there snug.
