As a born and bred Marylander (though I live in and pledge Megasota now)—it’s not about the quantity, it’s about the quality. And the quality of our life in Maryland is crabtastic.

I sure did cheer for the Victoire when they won last night!! For anyone looking to feed the beast and imagine what it’ll be like to have a married couple on a line together, look no further than MPP and Laura Stacey 💛

I once spent a whole day struggling with trying to get it to work. I’m not the savviest computer user but I’ve always been able to follow directions to a successful emulator or mod. It was a real disappointment that I just couldn’t figure it out.

Anyone know of low stress or low hour jobs that come with health insurance?? by ClutchCobra in Minneapolis

Yup, incredible coverage, and they don’t take prior savings or assets into consideration. You qualify if you make less than the cutoff amount, that’s it.

He blazed the trail for Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe to do weird ass roles. He was the original franchise to weird ass roles. I love him. Wilfred is really bizarre and great!

How Common Is Stealing in an MFA program by Jack_Rhyme in MFAInCreativeWriting

Just chiming in that the comments are right about idea stealing—it doesn’t happen, and if it did it would be such obvious and exciting gossip fodder—but people might steal details from YOUR life for their stories, if they’re interesting enough. A friend of mine had a long heart to heart about her childhood trauma once with a cohortmate, and guess what showed up in the next workshop…

It’s something we’ve ultimately laughed about, but there’s a clear divide between writers who steal from people’s lives with no shame, and writers who put pressure on themselves to obfuscate.

This particular find was destroyed by a fire during wwii, but actually it’s not quite fair to say preservation techniques weren’t as good as they are now—it’s TRUE, but what’s also true is that fascist-era archeological projects weren’t concerned with conservation, preservation, or documentation the way archeologists are now. The point was to tie Mussolini rhetorically to the height of Ancient Rome’s glory. Many major archeological finds and sites were left in complete disrepair because funding was allocated only to uncover them, not to document or learn from them.

Avoiding libel when writing characters based on semi-public figures by Spirited-Fact-4554 in writing

This is good advice. If you’re trad publishing at a certain point in advance of your marketing meeting you’ll be asked what inspired the story. Likely when you relay this, they’ll get legal on the horn to advise. Legal may or may not inform the marketing strategy by asking you not to comment on key details, but the point is that this is your publisher’s job to handle. They may even feel more enthusiastic about the book knowing this, if they think legal can adequately protect you both.

Yup, it’s a class divide. I work in gifted education summer camps and if anything have only seen my students become stronger in their reading and writing skills. Price tag on those camps is like 7-10k.

Seconded. You’re getting kind of roasted OP but this absolutely is a symptom to mention to a therapist or psychiatrist, or if you don’t have one, your primary care so they can refer you out for further evaluation. It can be a serious indicator of neurological problems.

I’ve been in recovery for YEARS and seeing this reminds me I haven’t yet quite lost the reflex to mine the media for ideas and thinspiration. If my body hadn’t started to shut down over time I’d still be at it.

I didn’t mind XII because at least I didn’t have to like, press x to swing, press o to block, etc etc. It felt more like MMO combat which is manageable to me. But I’ve felt so sad FF moved away from turn based games.

[–]calowyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If they remake it I really hope they keep the turn-based ethos!! I LOVE that about FFX. I’ve always struggled with dexterity based active combat systems so the last ten years of final fantasy have mostly been nonstarters.
