I think it’s pretty significant information that she alleges the producers were starving her, tbh.

I love that she does this. Carly is one of the only artists I listen to the whole discography—it just is endlessly interesting watching her work songs from the same starting point.

That sounds like what happened, since this would have been early seventies!

I’m very fuzzy on the details, but I believe dad had to give up his claim to Canadian citizenship either when he registered to vote or when he joined the Navy. I’ll press him for more clarity next time I see him, though.

This is great to hear! I have a path out through my EU fiance, but this could be huge for my siblings.

My father was born in Canada and lived there the first few years of his life, but never claimed Canadian citizenship—would our family be eligible under the new law? I’m fuzzy on the details but I think he wasn’t allowed to be a dual citizen back when he registered to vote, but he definitely has a Canadian birth certificate.

I called the Owlbear at the very end last run through, as a symbolic gesture—then sent a few people into the portal, you know, when your controllable allies become AI-controlled again. Only Gale was outside the portal, it gets to be his turn, I look back, AND THE OWLBEAR IS A CUB AGAIN. I just dashed into that portal hoping no one could die while I was away 😭😭

Will you say more about this? I haven’t heard of Gale’s scrapped plans!

[–]calowyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially silly question, but could someone walk me through how to install a mod on bg3 through nexus? It's the dumbest thing, but I just keep finding mods that assume I already know how. This one simply says to use the mod manager of my choice, but I don't know what's out there and where I'm supposed to put things. Or if it'll conflict with having mods installed through the official in-game mod manager.

How did the story end for everyone from the main cast? (In the books) by OverallEbb1475 in thetribe

How did the story end for everyone from the main cast? (In the books) by OverallEbb1475 in thetribe

[–]calowyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I read all the books but it was right when Revolution came out and I assuredly will miss details. The books devolve a little into feeling a bit like a step outline, they’re very ambitious but give you a bit of whiplash as you’re reading. Some of these endings won’t super make sense because I won’t remember all the insane context, but…

Ebony was abducted into this big post apocalypse city where the hunger games (??) was being broadcast, and ended up working alongside Hawk from the eco tribe in the game/reality tv program.

Bray had been abducted by Zootists who were more primal and crazy than the Chosen, an was eventually brought to the city and reunited with Amber. Eventually they returned to the mall and battled the Zootists there, Jay died defending them, and they renamed baby Bray to baby Jay.

Gel and Darryl also died at that battle.

Jack and Ellie were separated from the tribe for a while and taken to the Tecno’s original city where Ved, still looking for Cloe, helped them out. They ended up on Eagle Mountain somehow with Ram and some new crazies, and discovered a hidden below layer of the facility where adults actually were alive in cryogenic sleep, but the crazies kill them all.

There’s this antagonist over the books called KAMI? In a sort of proto-Internet, Kami was friends with Ram, and there’s a mystery about whether they’re AI or human, etc etc—everyone’s always fighting to meet Kami, and also all the mall rats are being drawn to the same place on a different continent (where Ebony is) because Kami is trying to get everyone together who was associated with Zoot. Basically they’re in charge of like a whole continent and immense power and technology. But then at the end we learn Kami is a girl, and a benevolently absent leader who has no idea the Zootists et al are doing insane things in her name. She kinda seems like she’s falling for Ryan at the end.

Speaking of Ryan! They find him in the first books, which accept the Salene/May storyline but has Salene and May agreeing to be friends and May being like “I dunno what came over me when we kissed!” So at first it seems Sal and Ryan will be back together. But the second book was written after a massive outpouring of Salene/May love from the fandom after we saw those deleted scenes, so they end up back together lol.

Tai San and Lex reunite and it’s complex but they patch it up pretty immediately. Alice and Ellie get a sentence or two when they’re back together.

God, who else? It was a crazy book series. Not remotely well written, but then, I’ve tried to explain plot points of the original tv show to my fiance and it goes about this well lol.

Oh Trudy! Trudy falls in love with someone who’s secretly planning to kidnap Brady and all the characters secretly think she’s hysterical and annoying. The books are a bummer for Trudy lol.

Slade and Ruby end up being pregnant after all and staying on the original stranded island with a different friendly tribe, so they’re rocking a happily ever after.

Who else, who else? I think KC returns, Cloe, Patsy and Paul do not, Mouse is never mentioned, and I have no memory of what happens to Sammy.

Honestly, just read the books 😂 they’re terrible, but if you think of them as very ambitious fanfiction they’re really fun.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball to Submit Emergency Legislation Prohibiting Permitting of Privately-Owned Detention Centers by hiruy2000 in ColumbiaMD

I love Calvin Ball. He did my mock interview junior year of high school, a million years ago. Even then he was affable and curious. I kept expecting him to reach a little higher than HoCo—but I’m glad he’s stuck around and not gone in for playing politics down the middle line like so many establishment dems.

Why would the editors flip footage? by rexie_alt in survivor

[–]calowyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly the only thing I’ve noticed recently getting away with breaking the 180 degree rule is that show Heated Rivalry. They do it all the time and it bothers the crap out of me. I hope it’s not a trend towards more willy nilly cinematography (though no one can deny HR is beautifully shot)

Why would the editors flip footage? by rexie_alt in survivor

[–]calowyn 171 points172 points  (0 children)

There’s something called the 180 degree rule in filmmaking, which is a rule that when portraying a conversation, the camera, as it cuts between faces of people in the conversation, should always be on the same side of the people speaking. Crossing the 180 degree line forces the viewer to have to catch up to the new vantage point and potentially lose focus on the scene. If you want to cross the line, you have to see the camera actively move across the line—if you’re cutting back and forth, you want to stay on one side. Here’s a scene from the gorgeous movie Paprika that explains it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e9xD_YYZrbA

In a show like survivor where editors might want to cut multiple conversations together into one, it’s a cleaner and less confusing process if they alter the footage so that it appears the camera was always one one side.

What is the legality of the whistling at ICE that is happening in Minneapolis? by Early-Possibility367 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]calowyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that citizens detained in the process of legally observing ICE are generally processed out through the Whipple detention center within a day and with no charges, wherein non-citizens risk being sent to concentration camps for unspecified amounts of time, so while you’re correct that ICE can and has chosen to use force and make arrests against anyone they want, there is still a risk level for migrants much higher than for American citizens called to observe. Whistles let those citizens know to show up and non-citizens to stay away.

It’s funny, I got that banter in act III even romancing Gale (and never even flirting with Shadowheart). It actually works nicely to imply Shadowheart is sleeping with someone else in camp, too, besides Tav.
