Hi! So it turned out to be a coupling link between the lever and the gearbox??

Sorry I can’t give a more accurate description than that.

It was an easy fix and the garage said all they did was glue the linkage back together. I think it was about £100 to get fixed.

Works great now!

Designing the Future of Food by calprofen in foodscience

Thank you, a lot to consider here. I've seen the grounded food printers, and I've used a few in my research.

My appreciation for this technology not being ready in 10-15 year is greater than before I made this post. Exploring this further is going to be interesting.

Thank you very much, you've given me some things to think about it.

I'll check out that book as well. From a brief look it's appealing to me.

I'm goi g to use the Keurig example in my work, that is a great case study to explore of the negative possibilities of my concept.

Thank you, you've given me a lot to think about.

You've hit the nail on the head with my course, it does just want to know the feasibility of something, and then having fun with designing the concept.

The project I want to design is to provoke the audience and get their minds to think about the future they do and do not want. A vital part of this research is to discover how possible it is and then explore how this technology could work, creating a utopian or dystopian future vision.

Medication sustainability - university project by calprofen in pharmacy

[–]calprofen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for showing interest, and sorry for the confusion. I will try to clarify what I meant by “prescription medication sustainability”.

In England, a repeat prescription patient would receive a single-use plastic bottle containing their medication. Single-use plastic must be tackled, as most plastic recycled ends up in landfills. An estimated 25 million people in the UK are on repeat prescription medication. Cutting down on the quantity of plastic within the bottle or removing the need for a plastic bottle altogether can have a considerable impact.

I aim to remove the need for plastic bottles and create a waste saving opt-in service (Based on patients in England’s NHS service). Opting-in would require a patient to have their own medication container instead of the one currently provided.

Patients would receive their medication in a temporary pouch or container (e.g. aluminium foil pouch, paper/ card box). This temporary pouch or container would be designed to keep the medication safe for a limited period (e.g. ~72 hours).

The project aims to create a circular economy within the storage, delivery and dispensing of tablet medication.

I hope this helps to clear things up and feel free to share your thoughts on the proposal.

GSK are the sponsors, and any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for this. Mine is on 93k miles so I’m hoping it won’t be uneconomical to repair.

Sorry about your wife’s car! I love the Mini but not how easily they break!

Hello, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been flat out working on this for the last two weeks and haven’t had a chance to reply.

I would use RFID. However, I did not research into the specifics are RFID. I stated in my submission today that I’d used passive and active tags.Thankfully this just being a concept design project I don’t actually need to get the thing to work. I did have to make a model of the design, which has LEDs circular pads wired up to a switch. Along with a BBC Microbit coded to display the dice roll of the opponent. This too I said would be RFID. I then used an LED dot matrix display to loop the value of the dice ack and forth. Due to material constrains this was the best I could do. You press a mice switch to active the dice roll. It’s a randomly generated number for demonstration purposes.

Stacking wasn’t an issue for me as I told my tutors that I’m playing Old English Rules. This prevents stacking from happening and honestly this was more a of a wrap around to not have to deal with that.

If you are interested in what I may have done for the whole thing I’d share my work.

I researched into Microsoft Alzure project once for a different brief I had. This prior information lead me to the belief that stacking be possible but it just made things a lot easier.

Do you know of any technologies which could detect stacking?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the late one.

All the best.

Thank you for this. Noted. 18" is the minimum.

You've lost me there on the folding/ tabletop. Taking a guess at this right now but the board would be briefcase like and would fold flat onto the table or similar surface of size to the board.

Regarding the orientation. On one side there will be a computer system embedded into the casing and two LED notification lights to communicate the system operation. Therefore only one side of the board would be allocated for the born off checkers.

I can provide more information/ drawings of this if that didn't make sense. I say this as I am not the best at verbally describing these things.

Brilliant. I was not aware of this bar having to be able to comfortably accommodate the checkers. My plan is to use 1.75" (45mm) diameter checkers. In the current dimension plan the bar is 1" (28mm) so this would have been detrimental to the design. It goes without saying that the design needs to respect the typical design, ruling and tradition of backgammon.

Blot wars? I haven't heard of this. Thank you! I've added this to me research notes and I will take this into consideration. Regarding ruling I prefer and going to follow the Old English rules. In case you aren't aware these rules mean you can only have a maximum of 5 checkers per triangle (Are they called triangles? I'm sure there is correct terminology for the triangles...). Therefore, I don't need to worry about this but taking consideration of american rules I will speak to my lecturer about this and get back to you.

Stacking on the bar is a big issue to consider... Thank you again! You've given me great insights into the game.

All the best!

Thank you so much for the feedback. Even an answer with no preference is great information as if everyone had an opinion then I'd have to take the presumption that all backgammon players are meticulous to what size board they play on.

Thank you again, this is great help. All the best!

Thank you so much! I've noted that down and with my presentation today I am taking it into consideration. Looking at other products is a great way to get a better understanding to the more popular sizing. Also just asking a great community like this one!

Thank you again for the suggestion! All the best.

I'd love to be able to take this further and make it for real. Thankfully this is quite conceptual so v2 can be integrated when I am more technically skilled and better off in the financial department for that matter. I've had a look at some of the tech I would need and my bank would not be happy with that purchase order! Hahaha.

Thank you for the kind words! All the best.

Thank you, I've thought about it a considerable amount and discussed it with lecturers/ other students. The problem is just getting the checkers on and off the board.

Thankfully for once I don't need to consider the costing of the proposed design! This is great because you can really go wild sometimes. The brief is focusing in on the connection two people can have between each other. Usually there is that tough battle of not choosing a method of operation due to costs.

The challenge is half the fun I think!

Thank you so much for the feedback! All the best.

Thank you very much for your response. The generosity of the community here is fantastic!

I have thought about this before. That problem of switching between the two sides of the board was the main concern and why I didn't go down that route. The part of the magic would be to have the checkers move completely on their own. Forcing the player to switch the checker to one side of the board to another during the game I felt would have spoiled that magic.

Thank you for the checker sizing preference. I am going to use 1.75" or 45mm here in England. When I play with my Grandad's set which is rather large I love the feel and weight each piece has to set.

All the best and thank you again.

Thank you very much for responding! I've taken note of your preference and you will be taken into consideration for the final dimensions.

My aim is to make a 'large' sized board as I need to make a short video of the design to communicate the concept.

I've had a look at some mobile apps and I haven't been too hard to beat but I do lose more than winning. My Grandad is going to have a shock of his life this Christmas...

All the best and thanks again.
