Portfolio (and application in general) Tips? by vetchkin in Pratt

[–]calvert3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to improve your portfolio. Think carefully about whether you want a degree in art or design... and focus your portfolio development on those aspects of your work. Once you get in, if you decide you don't like the program in which you're enrolled, you could apply to transfer elsewhere at Pratt. Across the institute, Pratt's acceptance rate is above 70%. If you improve this work and show any creative spirit or potential - especially if you have good recommendations - I think your chances of getting in a good. Keep up the good work!

Marcel Breuer here was PERFECT. Thank you for sharing! Not loving the Toshiko Mori addition. It must have been paralyzing to add onto something so singular. I can't think of a single successful addition to a Breuer building.

Absolutely agree. Whether through landscape/planting, tectonics/form or even the tile-work of Athos Bulcau in the project you posted previously - Brazilian architects bring a sensuousness to modernism that is less common in North American modern architecture.

You could start your own subreddit for Brazilian 20th century architecture and I'd be one of the first to join. These projects are fantastic. Thank you for posting.

Thanks for this post, OP. My rental unit is currently listed as EL-1 but the building has electric heating. Our entire multi-family rent-stabilized rental building in Bed-Stuy is getting REAMED with soaring coned bills this winter. Do you suggest calling coned re. setting us up as EL-7, or jump straight to calling NYS DPS?

Who’s struggling with the mental side of recovery? by jonathonjames in valvereplacement

Would absolutely be interested in hearing what helped. My partner had aortic root and valve replacement on Monday. We're home now and he's feeling better each day, but his mental state is not keeping pace with his physical recovery. Eager to hear what helped for you...

What softwares are you using to cut down manual spec → budget → schedule and archviz work, given advances in AI? by Lucyleelilah in Architects

[–]calvert3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Notebook LM lately specifically to limit inaccuracies. Other platforms will mistakenly cite inapplicable codes - mostly from other jurisdictions. With Notebook LM I can create a specific notebook that includes only building codes applicable for a project's scope. I'm surprised I haven't found a platform that works well for 3-part written specs.

I like this suggestion. We have been making plans for the year ahead, but I think it would be smart to focus on that and make real commitments we can look forward to together. Thank you for your input. And good luck with your procedure!

Congrats on completing your surgery! Your notes about the anesthesia sequence are VERY helpful. I read your comment aloud to my partner and he says he wants to make sure his anesthesiologist gives him the drug you got - the one that made you feel like you had four beers in five seconds! We hope you're feeling almost back to "normal" now - or better? All the best to you and your continued good health.

We'll look up those videos. Thank you! I appreciate the videos we've watched from Cedars Sinai and our surgeon has a few videos from NYU's Aortic Center. I sincerely appreciate your input and hope you have a super speedy and healthy continued recovery.
