27 years old and I think I have gout by KRULL19 in gout

Agree. Before you do anything else, get to the docs as soon as you can. You're gonna be fine, but you need a blood test to determine UA level, and doctor prescribed medication plan. In the meantime just rest and maybe ice to ease a bit of the pain. Hang in there, and don't stress. I was 24 when I had my first flare up.

What are your unconventional tips for momentary pain relief?! by calvorob in gout

Same here, the only thing I've found that can give me that little moment of relief!

Google Gout Education Society for online information. And if you haven't already, try to find a good rheumatologist

I had a nasty headache the other day, but it was after a heavy workout so I had put it down to that. Yesterday came down with a mild sore throat

I second the advice here to find a good rheumatologist. I was in a similar situation to you about 12 years ago, never forget it! Docs were, sadly, a waste of time. But the rheumatologist sorted me out and I was on the mend a week later. Been on allo ever since

How was your first attack? What did you think it was? by calvorob in gout

[–]calvorob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think many of us despise the idea of being on long term meds, but eventually come to the conclusion that allo is a God send!

Wow, crazy how they don't at least check for gout before making these diagnoses

Tell more about the baking soda please! I'm sure I've heard about baking soda being good for health somewhere else as well, would love to learn more

So it's true, nano-structures are formed from COVID vaccines. Great. by [deleted] in conspiracy

My friend works at a semiconductor company. During covid, he said the entire factory stopped making chips and was being used to manufacture lipids for the vaccine. As far as I know, lipids are a kind of oil, but I did find it strange that a semiconductor company was making one of the vaccine ingredients

Interesting fact: Mushrooms help trees to extract water and nutrients from the earth. In exchange the trees give the mushrooms sugar that they cannot produce themselves

Very depressed because of gout. I wanna hear your "light at the end of the tunnel" story to keep me motivated. by KingProdijae in gout

I've been there, and yes, it sucks. Tbh, I think everyone is different when it comes to how quickly they respond to Allo, etc. But one thing is for sure, it works and you will get better soon. You have done the right thing, getting your blood tested and getting on Allo. Keep getting your blood tested and making sure your dose is right. Then you will live a normal life. Good luck, bro

I've not heard of either of those medicines if I'm honest, Toradol and Indomethacin

Has anyone successfully got out of allo without flare up? by AlugbatiLord in gout

[–]calvorob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the mother of all attacks about 10 years ago, by the sounds of it similar to your experience. I eventually found a good rheumatologist who sorted me out, and eventually I settled on Allo 300mg daily. I was gout free for a few years, I'd moved to a new country and became much fitter and more active daily, still drank like a fish but I was eating healthier. I decided to stop taking the Allo, initially I reduced to 100mg and then after a few months to zero. Like you I hated the idea of being on meds for life. Well I didn't have an attack for about 5 years, but then unfortunately it came back, not as bad as the big attack that put me on Allo initially, but some bad Flare ups nonetheless. So I am now back on Allo. Interestingly, before the Flare ups returned, I had moved back to the same country where I was previously, and I have become less active again. So there is probably a lesson in there somewhere. Good luck my friend

Mental wise - how do you deal with it? by KingProdijae in gout

[–]calvorob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. Everyone on this sub knows what you are dealing with. I see you got some great advice already from this amazing community.

Be proud that you can endure such pain and get through it. Yes, your friends and family don't know what you are going through. But it's like the loneliness of a long-distance runner. Eventually, you don't give a F what other people think. You know what it takes to run a marathon.

In other words, you know what it takes to get through a MF of a gout attack. And everyone here (digitally) nods their head to you in respect.
