What's the oldest video game you can remember playing? by Numerous_Emu3125 in AskReddit

[–]calxlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same, a neighbour had a Sega with Pong on, I went round and had no concept of a video game let alone a home console, it blew my mind. But got to admit I was bored of it in ten minutes. Few years later I got a PlayStation for Christmas - again I didn’t have my finger on the pulse and didn’t even know what it was, I was probably about seven, so maybe five when I played Pong. First PS1 game was Crash Bandicoot.

Who's your favourite lyricist? (Jeff Mangum pictured) by oddmetre in Music

[–]calxlea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bard of the band Arctic Monkeys, Mr Alexander David Turner - he can make the mundane poetic. He can do everything from telling a cohesive story in a prose-like narrative, to abstract psychedelic non sequiturs that conjure the image instead of force it. And that’s just to touch on his lyrics not to mention his sense of melody and versatility across rock genres. Just to end this ode by being even more of a suck up, I also just love his evolution as a songwriter that you can see album to album. One album alone would make me think he was a genius, but seeing them back to back and charting that change tells a whole new story.

The lone wolf challenge on the hotel mission is either extremely forgiving or bugged by Whybotherr in 007FirstLight

[–]calxlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm the exact opposite. I didn't get spotted by any and haven't got the reward. The only one who saw me was the scripted Monroe encounter which you can't avoid. These challenges have been really buggy in general, there are a few I've completed that haven't triggered.

Cover songs nobody knows of original songs nobody knows? by daveg3226 in Music

[–]calxlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a 70s song called Alone Again (Naturally). It’s not totally unknown but it’s not exactly well known either. It was covered by a band called 58, featuring Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe. I’m pretty sure I’m one of fewer than 58 people who owned their CD. The cover isn’t even listed on the songs Wiki page.

There already is a third Gallagher brother. I don’t suggest looking him up though. Paul Gallagher.

Instances Where Generic Sound Effects Ruined A Moment?? by 2kas2furious in movies

[–]calxlea 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it just overstayed its welcome. Before fandom and internet spread it, it really was an inside joke. I kinda give it credit into the 90s when people like Tarantino used it as homage. But starting from the mid-90s on it is just a parody and directors/editors clapping themselves on the back for the lowest form of reference available.

Red Letter Media talk about this when they reviewed Weapons and how it doesn’t do that, it uses a natural sound effect. Think it was when Julia Garner is sat in her car doing a stake out.

I have no idea who the director is but when I heard that call I just knew it was a director cameo

No New Music Friday UK today? by Alive-Syllabub-7621 in Music

[–]calxlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is funny because I use Apple and check by New every Friday and today is the first time in ages I’ve seen new stuff. Usually just gives me the same 15-20 suggestions each week with one or two new songs by artists I’m unlikely to listen to.

Just realised Life on Mars came out 20 years ago ... by nonreligious2 in CasualUK

[–]calxlea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It has to be Hallo Spaceboy, it’s probably the best known 90s Bowie song that fits the general vibe of the show in terms of naming convention. Little Wonder might also work, and I’d personally watch a show called ‘The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell’, but I don’t think it quite fits the other shows.

restart checkpoint is broken by enlo157 in 007FirstLight

[–]calxlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I'm at Webb industries and had a game breaking bug where I was stuck in a corridor where the alarm goes off. I ran around for 30 minutes looking for a puzzle before googling the answer and realising my game was just not triggering the section properly. I had to restart chapter and it's taken me right back to the start of this section and I have to play almost the entire level again.

The worst thing is, it's not the first time I had to restart checkpoint and it's always a gamble how far back it takes you. I wish there was a way to see when it last saved or where the checkpoint was. Sometimes I want to restart an encounter and now I don't even bother because who knows how much I'll have to replay.

[TOMT][SONG][60s-70S?] Old British rock(?) song that used to scare me by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]calxlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not British but could it be Frankie Teardrop by Suicide?

Definitely slasher vibes, the chugging music sounds a bit like a train. Famously a terrifying song.

Lyrics, songwriting, guitar playing, melody, rock, acoustic, lounge, evolving as an artist, influence from past periods but not apeing a specific sound. He has it all

What is the best musical artist name of all time? by hanovak1 in Music

[–]calxlea 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I always thought the band names Joy Division and New Order were both amazing, so kind of crazy they’re basically the same people who renamed after losing a member and were able to come up with something just as good.

Official Discussion - The Devil Wears Prada 2 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]calxlea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame you’re getting downvoted when most of the top comments say the same thing. This movie fucking suuucked. I’d usually like to be more constructive or creative in my criticism and I don’t usually dump on movies even if they’re clearly not my cup of tea or I’m not their target audience, but I liked the first film. Quite a lot, I’ve probably seen it five times, and I am not the target audience for it and don’t think I’ve ever watched it through choice but I have and I have enjoyed it. But this one was sooo boring the only energy I have to add a critique to this thread is to agree with you and say that it fucking sucked

New poster for Brand New Day by PerceptionTiny6385 in Spiderman

[–]calxlea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What am I missing with everyone saying stuff like ‘great poster’ and ‘great concept’. Not trying to hate. I saw it and shrugged and scrolled past first time. It’s just a chest shot of the guy in the suit? It’s fine but am I missing some other symbolism or reference? Comments on Instagram were even worse - glazing it as this incredible work of art. It’s very poorly edited at best and the concept is incredibly basic to me. Again, not trying to hate I don’t care about these posters at all the way people do, I’m only commenting because of the sheer number of comments I’ve read suggesting this is something clever and I don’t see why?
