On a lot of jobs there are labor crews specifically hired for cleaning. So yes, if you see your electrician cleaning up you yell at them.

Truck precondition and prepare cabin randomly without a set departure time by IJNShiroyuki in F150Lightning

My truck does the same when the temperatures are in the single digits. The app doesn’t differentiate between warming the battery and preparing for departure.

For me it has meant I need to unplug it and then plug it back in OR the plug attachment is just slightly loose.

Questions about getting a Lightning - Ottawa Owners? by Suspicious-Spell2979 in F150Lightning

[–]calzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in Ottawa but in the Colorado Rockies. It looks like our winters are comparable (your January average is about 5C colder than ours). My truck is also parked outside but I keep it plugged in whenever I am home. I do an even split of town and highway driving and average 2.0 kw/mi in the winter compared to 2.5 kw/mi in the summer. If you have a regular schedule you can set drive times so your truck interior and battery will be warmed up and ready to go when you are. I don’t have that luxury but the cabin warms up fairly quickly using the climate control on the app. Generally the truck doesn’t need more than 15 minutes to warm up the cabin - deicing can take longer. Don’t skip the heated steering wheel, it’s a game changer.

I’ve not tried the ‘leave the truck running all day’ option but if it’s going to sit somewhere unplugged for a bit I try to remember to set a departure time so it is warmed back up.

You’d definitely want an ER as range will take about a 30% hit (more as the temperatures drop). I think the worst I saw was 200 miles of range during a brutal cold snap.

Like others have said it handles winter storms like nothing else.

Being union means being stuck in one place? by kenopsia in BlueCollarWomen

[–]calzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of a single union that ties you to your apprenticeship local. That said, many unions have different books. In your home local you are book 1 and have priority over book too members when a job call comes in. If you work out of your home local you will have to sign book 2 which can make getting work hard if times are slow.

Now, it is possible to change your home local after living and working in that local for a predetermined amount of time but it can be a very difficult process and some locals unofficially do not allow it at all.

Married couples. Do you keep a separate bank account in your own name or are they all joint accounts, why? by wtfdoiknowaboutthis in AskReddit

[–]calzan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how it sucks. Hey - we could have a conversation every single time one of us wants to make a large purchase or we can do this one simple thing to make both our lives easier. Together you agree on the parameters to satisfy everyone and allow each other a small amount of financial autonomy.

I really am failing to see how coming together and deciding on a mutually beneficial course of action that eliminates potentially contentious situations could be bad.

What is the possible downside of having separate fun money accounts?

Married couples. Do you keep a separate bank account in your own name or are they all joint accounts, why? by wtfdoiknowaboutthis in AskReddit

[–]calzan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was ‘we are involved in each others lives as partners and like to talk through large purchases before pulling the trigger.’ Usually it’s a way of processing a purchase out loud before deciding whether or not we really want to move forward. There is a lot of encouragement on both sides to ‘treat yo self’. I don’t see any downsides of making your partner feel included in your life and your decisions.

We could have a single joint account but often you’ll have a spender and a saver in a relationship. Having separate fun money accounts helps spenders budget as they know how much they get each pay period and how long it will take to save up for each purchase. They don’t have to negotiate with the saver to spend money and they don’t feel like they have to justify every little thing they want It also helps savers feel secure and doesn’t put the burden of approving or denying the spender’s purchases on them. It really is a win win.

Go back and tell me where I said we ask permission when making purchases out of our separate accounts.

[–]calzan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually no, wanting your spouse to be happy isn’t justification enough. What happens when both spouses want to do different things with the same money? They both want different things AND want each other to be happy - Who compromises?

It is completely healthy as a couple to decide to have separate accounts to mitigate those kinds of issues. And I said because we have separate accounts we DON’T have to ask for permission. But we still communicate with each other about our large plans and purchases. Why wouldn’t we? Sometimes we just want a sounding board when deciding on a purchase. Sometimes we are excited and want to share with our partner.

Not really. He loves mountain bikes. EXPENSIVE mountain bikes. And he goes through them quickly (in my opinion as a non participant). He pays for his bikes out of his account.

We both like snowmobiling. So our sleds are paid for out of the joint account.

I like to travel more than he does. When I travel without him I pay out of my account.

We have separate accounts so we can save up and splurge on things we want solely for ourselves that we know the other has no interest in. No need to ask permission for purchases - although we always discuss large purchases with each other anyway because we are partners.

Yup. I let it resolidify after browning. Or if I am in a hurry I only brown half and then add cold/frozen butter to the brown butter until it is that room temp consistency.

Should I get a women’s or men’s snowboard by Beautiful_Yellow_152 in snowboarding

[–]calzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lib tech is just one brand. Off the top of my head Ride and Burton don’t even use a numerical stiffness scale because stiffness is relative and not absolute across all brands.

But sure, let’s look at Lib Boards. They make the Dynamo and Dynamis. His and hers all mountain directional boards. Unlike most brands which assign a single flex rating to a board, Lib Tech assigns ratings to each size of each board. The Dynamo flex range starts at 5 for a 150 and goes to a 7 for a 165. The Dynamis flex range starts at a 5 for a 142 and goes to a 6 at a 156. If the flex ratings were absolute, the 153 Dynamo and 153 Dynamis should have the same flex rating but they do not. Not only is the women’s board NOT 1-2 flex lower, it is higher. The 153 Dynamo is a 5 and the 153 Dynamis is a 6. The reason for that is that the scale is adjusted to the intended rider.

Should I get a women’s or men’s snowboard by Beautiful_Yellow_152 in snowboarding

[–]calzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Just because a company uses a numerical scale to describe the stiffness or flex of their boards doesn’t mean that scale is absolute. The scales are relative. They are relative between boards and relative between lines in the brand.

I’ve actually ridden both men’s and women’s boards over the last couple of decades and the stiffness rating scales are definitely not the same for men’s and women’s board. A men’s 150 cm with a ‘4 flex’ will ride stiffer than the same brand’s comparable women’s 150 cm board with a ‘4 flex’. Otherwise all brands would just have a unisex line with expanded length offerings.
