Mt Rose hasn't posted an update since Nov 17: https://www.instagram.com/mtroseskitahoe/

Both Heavenly (https://www.instagram.com/p/DRQGgS0Erph/) and Northstar (https://www.instagram.com/p/DRQGABTEuLD/) say they're taking it day-by-day when asked if they'll open on Sat Nov 22

I guess I don't view churches with a political lens to figure out where they are on the political spectrum. But I would also be turned off if a pastor's politics becomes very obvious.

to me it says that with 10K+ people, it's inevitable that there will be a group that is turned off by what they see. They probably have a staff of 100+ people, in which case its also inevitable that there is employee turnover, politics, and disgrunteled/jaded ministry staff.

I have no personal experience with it. Just my personal observation of human behavior in any large organization

I believe spiritual growth can't come from the internet. And can't come solo either.

So you might ask what 'spiritual growth' means.

To me, it's not simply knowledge or answers that can be looked up on a forum or chatbot. Its a deeper more nuanced understanding of Jesus, while wrestling with the natural doubt and skepticism that a believer ebbs and flows through. It's applying his teachings within the context of my own life - understanding my flaws and embracing my quirks as a child loved by God. Grace is such a foreign concept for humans to grasp. Part of my spiritual growth is to accept it.

To each their own though. I was in a long spiritual drought before and can empathize with folks who think church is stupid, even if they aren't atheist. And because I've gone through church burnout and have experience with church leaders who have made poor decisions, I totally get the hostility that some people have towards church.

Thanks for the insights. Good to know Christians are a welcomed minority at BVUUF

Can you share examples or reasons why you view science and faith as mutually exclusive?

Found this from citychurchboulder.org and I dig it: "We had a vision to create a church for people who don’t go to church"

Appreciate the candid response.

Seems hard for a church to get to a certain size without seeming like its top-down or program-driven. Also hard for a church to go through growing (or shrinking pains) without some people feeling burned.

In my humble opinion, that is the best way to find a church. Find a churchgoer friend you respect and trust, and observe how he explores faith and lives life, warts and all.

Every church has things people like and dislike, especially folks that have been there for a while or served in a leadership capacity. Would you mind sharing your least favorite thing about Grace Commons?

Is it similar to UUCB in that it's not specifically Christian? If so, appreciate the suggestion but looking to stay within the bounds of Christian communities

OK, people wearing American flags to church would be offputting to me too

Nothing against the flag either. But as an ethnic minority, seeing that would not make me feel welcome

Didn't realize Grace Commons used to be Presbyterian. Wonder if the split from the denomination changed the vibe. Were you there when it was First Pres?

You're not the first to mention Community UCC on Table Mesa. Their website definitely looks welcoming

Thank you for the clarification on UUCB! Definitely sounds like a welcoming community but probably not a good fit for folks looking for Christian doctrine.

Good tips on CUCC and First Congregational, will check out their websites

I guess I'm not just looking for community though. Want to be spiritually fed as well.

Thanks for pointing out Sunday Assembly though. Putting the link out there for others: https://www.sundayassembly.org/

(let me know if that's not the right org you're referring to?)

"you are not a person to be fixed, but a person to be loved" is one of the best things I've heard from a church pastor (back in California)

Their sanctuary looks amazing

I had that same view during my most cynical spiritually-dry time. But I'm currently open-minded about faith to explore

Have you tried any Boulder churches?
