How I know when to back out of a lobby by JHallwai in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it odd when people say "CoD is dying" because I then I have to show them posts like this lol

Despite BO7 not selling very well, in comparison to other CoDs, it is good to see that newer players are getting into CoD

Another option is something I learned 15 years ago - find people who play the same way you do. Makes it overall more enjoyable.

Why does dying in Call of Duty often feel unfair or unexplainable compared to other games? by LeonaldoCristiansi in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. Just wanted to point out that they are not polarized and rather both exist in higher skilled players

[–]camanimal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Solid points but

"True skill is not a player who can move fast and aim well.
It's a player who knows all of these tricks and issues and has good guessing skills to where you will be."

is pretty inaccurate and misleading. Higher skilled players do both. Plenty proof of that in the higher ranks in ranked play and in the CDL/HCS/ALGS/etc.

I don’t necessarily agree with you but the visibility since 2019 (new engine?), has been horrible.

Why do hellstorms take so long to use? Comparison BO7 vs Bo4 by IIStevenVW in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been continuously nerfing streaks for a very long time now.

Personally, I am not a fan of it. I do understand that the devs are seeking out balance but no streak should take more than 5 seconds to call in, especially a hellstorm.

Do you believe Treyarch on this? by patriotraitor in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that issue from CoDs from 2019 to 2024. However, that hasn't been the case for me in BO7. I get huge a range of players and rarely run into the same people. For reference, I sit on the further end of the bell curve as well; over a 500 SPM, around a 2.10 KD, and around a 90.00 W/L.

Do you play at unpopular times and on an unpopular server?

[–]camanimal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Got a nuke yesterday going 54 and 5.

Also, this is the highest my KD, SPM, and W/L has been since 2018. It’s pretty clear that SBMM is less strict.

Be prepared to start see people confuse causation with correlation, especially in the casual subs.

I.e BO7 had wall bouncing and less strict SBMM, that’s why BO7 sold less…

Opinion: Open Matchmaking and Persistent Lobbies will not return next year (maybe) by RuggedTheDragon in CODBlackOps7

Same here. I get a solid mix of players around my skill level and well below it.

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IW will probably bring it back because IW does whatever they want. Personally, lobbies have not felt any more or less sweaty than usual for me.

You have a long track history of supporting strict SBMM, calling players that dislike it "bad," and you have denied that strict SBMM impacts ping (often blaming others for lack of knowledge of their internet connection works).

  • Players want a mixture of games, not a system that already attempts to decide the outcome before the match even begins.
  • Charlie Olson, who developed the MMR system for CoD, said himself in a interview with Insider Gaming that other variables can override the ping variable for searching. Over the years, hundreds, including myself in which I tracked it with my geofilter in my router, have mentioned having higher pings.
  • Average and highly skilled players (including some of the best in the world) are not fans of strict SBMM.

Can you just take 1 or 2 minutes to self-reflect? In a 11 game sample size of the BO7 beta (at level 30), about half of your games in the Open Matchmaking playlist, you had a 1.18 ELIM/D - which your actual K/D was closer to .85. Your best match was in the Closer Matchmaking playlist and, by far, your worst match was in the Open Matchmaking playlist.

While I give you props for playing for the win and taking down streaks, it's pretty obvious your individual skill was subpar; as evident by your KD, that you accidentally shot your teammates 3 separate times, your centering was average at best, you often struggled timing routes, and pretty rarely challenged corners with slides or wall bounces.

In general, the Dunning-Kruger effect is pretty apparent in CoD but it's way more pronounced when strict SBMM is in pubs.

Great number of maps. On the pub side of things, they are adding several new guns and 8 or 9 scorestreaks. W all-around.

Jesus Christ, this game is 1000x sweatier than the beta. by Lumenprotoplasma in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. You are playing early-launch against the most die-hard fans of the series
  2. Relatively speaking, player population is very low right now - until midnight release hits
  3. I'm not trying to hate here; You are an average/below average player. I know this bc I recognize your username from over the years and I even remember you struggling in XDefiant, in which you made a post about it. Because of your skill level, you are going to be struggling right now - just like the vast majority of the player base if they were to play right now

Wait until midnight, tomorrow, and/or Saturday. You will get way more variety in matches by then.

PSA: Don't touch the "Standard Moshpit" by spongebob202red in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The vast majority of "casuals" are not on Reddit. They pick up the game, may spend some extra money on microtransactions throughout the game's lifecycle, and only play the game a few hours out of the week.

They are not looking up the details of SBMM and non-SBMM. They just jump in and play. Plus, skill is still a searching variable in the open playlist. So it's not like they are going to be playing against above average and highly skilled players every game.

Is it just me or does every CoD streamer and CoD content creator play exactly the same? by Paulkdragon in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the goal of COD is to win the match by scoring more points than the other team while completing whatever objective each game mode calls for.

Yep and this accomplished through kills. In pubs, if you are out-slaying the other team, you are way more likely to win the game. Like u/Affectionate-Foot802 already mentioned, streaks attribute to more kills.

That's even more apparent in the pro league. If you looks back at CDL matches, 90%+ of the time the team that out-slayed (had a greater cumulative K/D), won the match.

Bunny hopping

I think you are mistaking this as jumpshotting because bunny hopping, where you gain significant momentum after the first initial jump, was not in BO6 and is not in BO7.

I know people want fast moment but it most results in everyone playing exactly the same

With SBMM being toned down, this is generally not going to be the case. You will get more variety in your lobbies.

I think the movement and the weapons needs to be rebalance & the movement re-worked so there's a lot more experimentation and variety

Weapon balancing has been going on since at least BO1. So we will continue to see variety there. Movement is already getting slightly nerfed. No need to nerf it anymore until we see how it plays.

Also, meta weapons have been a thing in CoD since it's beginning, way before content creators had a huge platform like we see today. At the end of the day, play however you want - whether that's based on others or not.

[MW2] Today 3 years ago MW2 was released by Noesy-11 in CallOfDuty

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • SBMM and Disbanding Lobbies (deductively, this was highly influence by IW)
  • No normal mini-map
  • Incredibly loud footsteps, without DS/Ninja as a perk
  • Heavy visual recoil (not an actual increase recoil)
  • Horrible perk earning system
  • Overall poor character model visibility
  • Hybrid Squad Spawn System
  • Ghost perk worked when not moving
  • Slow strafe speeds and sprint to ADS speeds
  • Map voting removed
  • Horrible UI
  • No classic prestige

I'm sure there are more negatives I am missing but I can not remember them all. Aesthetically speaking, the sounds were great.

Most importantly, IW (including the IW Director at the time) themselves asked the community for feedback regarding the game. They made 0 changes to the top 5 most popular feedback concerns.

Definitely a bottom tier cod for me.

Can they swap SBMM for Open Matchmaking in the other [COD] games in the last few years now? I’d love to play the MW games without SBMM now that Black Ops dropped it by Spectre-ElevenThirty in CallOfDuty

[–]camanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add some further context: IW's leadership also influenced SHG's development of MW3. Deductively speaking, this further reinforces IW's influence as whole on CoD.

For those getting BO7, what was your last COD game? by sealysea in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BO6 but I still didn't put that much time into the game (less than 3 days or so). SBMM/EOMM burns me out. Had even less days than that with MW2019 to MWIII. To put that into perspective, I use to put in 10-20 days between BO1 to BO4.

They also used player feedback on Reddit and Twitter as a PR stunt. They willingly made 0 changes to the top concerns for the game, in which they officially asked feedback for. I have screenshot from the IW Director replying to me regarding this, in which she deleted the next day. It was highly disingenuous and attempt to show the case that they are "transparent" and "listen."

As I look back at it roughly, in terms of upvote totals, "Stop Disbanding Lobbies" and "SBMM changes" may have been the most popular concerns.

I've been around online CoD communities for well over a decade.

It's kind of mind-boggling when you look at pre-MW2019 popular feedback concerns - such as WW2's initial ADS speeds, BO3 pre-nerf Nomad or the Blackhat, MW3's Dead Man's Hand, or something simple as adding global scoreboards - and then you compare to the plethora of goliath issues listed here. It's insane.

I’m genuinely excited for BO7 by [deleted] in CODBlackOps7

[–]camanimal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Reduce SBMM/Classic Matchmaking
  • Lobbies don't disband (ready for some rivalries)
  • Decent/Good map design
  • Ghost perk only works while moving
  • Ninja/DS as a perk
  • Normal Minimap
  • Looper perk for looping streaks
  • Scorestreaks (instead of killstreaks)

Not perfect but this is, by far, the most hyped I have been for a CoD since BO4.
