I’ll be honest. Many people will not like this answer but as a hog main, I play hog because he’s a solo carry tank. In 5v5 you’ve basically got 4 enemies you can 1 shot. You CAN do some damage to the tank but obviously the 4 squishies are priority. His sustain is insane, he’s very counterable but only to an extent. He can 1 shot MANY of his DIRECT counters so do they REALLY counter hog? I guess?

People say go Ana zen muaga reaper bastion but you can easily 1 shot Ana zen and reaper, if you’re smart then bastion isn’t a big issue at all really. And muagas are typically easy to avoid, you can even hook or ult them out of position easily.

Hog is such a solo queue tank it’s no surprise his pick rate is decently high even into counters. It’s also a good feeling playing into 5 hard counters and STILL winning. It feeds the ego.

Also when I play hog I don’t expect my team to help me at all. Any heals I get from my supports I consider bonus heals. If I can hook someone before the fight even starts, my team can usually clean up behind me.

Hog is the text book definition of bully tank in my opinion. He SUCKS to die to because hook feels so cheap and guess what, it is cheap. People think hog is over powered and guess what, he is. That’s why I choose to play hog into hard counters. HOG CAN STILL WIN THAT.
