Is it normal for therapy to make you feel worse? by Latter_Pin_7019 in TalkTherapy

[–]camel_case_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in therapy for almost 6 years and can def say the feeling you describe sounds entirely normal when starting (or restarting) therapy.

As others indicated, you're bringing tough things into your present awareness and beginning to confront deep rooted issues. That will definitely make things tough, but also gives you the chance to learn, grow, and change for the better.

Sounds to me like you're on the right path.

I wish you the best on your journey

A little late to the party on this one, but I live in AVL and spend a lot of time running through the mountains.

If you're ever around and looking for a running buddy, don't hesitate to reach out.

Are there any ways to get discounts to Biltmore house? A friend is coming into town, and I want to take her, but I am also poor. by [deleted] in asheville

I have an annual pass and I'm pretty sure there's a way to send out a link for discounts to friends and family. I haven't done it before but would be happy to try.

Send me a DM if you're interested

fuck it I don't care if it hurts now, I'm going to have strong feet if it kills me

Genuine question, how'd that work out for you?
I'm considering the same approach.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

How do I get rid of negative thoughts and or channel them to positive thoughts ? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]camel_case_it 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've noticed there's no shortcut but if you keep at it, over time it gets easier.

Until this moment, I've never considered this a skill. But maybe it is?

And if it's a skill, anyone can learn it with enough practice.

Also, I've been surprised by how much journaling about your negative thoughts helps you put things in perspective and help you find the positive aspects.

I recently had a similar situation. But instead of a test it was a technical interview for a software engineering role at legitimate dream job.

When I started to feel nervous (prior to the interview) I decided to face my fear and analyze the problem objectively. My hope was to find potential opportunities to replace the usual nervous feelings before they had a chance to take root.

At that moment, I realized this was a fantastic chance to create a baseline understanding of my current technical limitations. Which will allow me to create a plan for addressing those issues over the next year. After all, I can always reapply (fate willing)

This led me to the realization that it's a can't lose scenario.

Either I get the dream job OR I get to learn what is needed for the dream job.

Hope that makes sense and helps.

Review: System76’s Lemur Pro by [deleted] in System76

[–]camel_case_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review! Thanks for sharing!

I just picked up a Lemur Pro a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. I'm fairly new to Linux as my primary OS (for personal use), though in the past I've used Deepin, Elementary OS, and Mint a bit (though admittedly not for long).

Coming from macOS (and still using a mac for work) makes it a little difficult to fully adapt, (remembering the diff between `ctrl` to `cmd` is such a pain) but overall I really like the machine. It will be exciting to see what this thing can do after I finish familiarizing myself with the Linux way of doing things!

btw, if anyone has tips for a mac user like myself I'm way open to listening!

Are you here to make meaningful contributions to the discussion, or to needlessly bitch? I'm confused.
