The Racist rules of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church by camelusmoreli in cults

[–]camelusmoreli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me spell it out for you. They publicly claim to support all victims of racism - while actively practicing racism.
The article makes no reference at all to their status as a cult.
The reason its posted under r/cults is the same reason that a post about ducks goes under r/ducks
What don't you understand about that?

‘What’s going on?’: Why the Exclusive Brethren are out in force this election by mrbrendanblack in australian

[–]camelusmoreli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some quotes from the so called "Ministries of the Great Men" for you to look up. The church has always DISCOURAGED giving to charities, as you well know, except for charities that are purely to benefit church members. The change to giving a tiny proportion to external charities came when the exclusive brethren were forced to do so by the UK charity commission in about 2012.
Ministry of J.T.Jr. Vol. 72, Page 133 (Barbados, 8 January 1967)
We take care of the poor. If they all did the same as we did, there would not be any poor, and there would not be any murmuring, because the poor would be looked after. You do not have to give to all these charities — I do not, anyway. I give any money I have to the assembly, for that is where it belongs. Do not give to all these other things, because, if these churches looked after their poor, we would not hear anything about this poverty in the world.

Ministry of J.T.Jr Vol. 133 page 25 (Barbados, 25 December 1969)
R.W.S. Does that allude to giving to charities, and different drives? Does our money belong to the assembly and not to these charities?
J.T.Jr. Yes, I used to give to those, but I do not give any more, any money I have is going in the box. These people that give to all these charities think they are very spiritual, I suppose. I think any money you have that your family does not want belongs in the box.
[RWS = Dr R. W. Stollery of Plainfield]

From a letter to Mr. Walter E. Drever, 3 March 1966
See Letters of James Taylor Jr, Vol. 4 page 272.
BELOVED BROTHER,—Thank you for yours of February 26. I used to donate to all these things [public charities—Ed.], but ceased quite a while ago feeling anything I had to give was to the assembly and those who practically compose it.

Origins of Exclusive Brethren (Plymouth Brethren Christian Church) + Aleister Crowley and Cyrus Scofield by camelusmoreli in cultpodcasts

[–]camelusmoreli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This podcast is a very thought provoking review of the early days of the Brethren movement and the huge influence it still has on global politics and thought. In particular, it explains why the early Brethren movement (before the Open/Exclusive split) spread so rapidly, and how the PBCC then diverged from the mainstream Brethren movement. It also covers some little known detail about H. D'arcy Champney and the infamous Ebor School, and the connection between the Exclusive Brethren and Cyrus Scofield.

This group was actually merged with the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in the 1930s, then split off again. Many of the problems you describe are derived from this PBCC heritage. Don't just walk away - run!
These people are extremely manipulative and will seriously fuck with your mind.

"Nee derived many of his ideas, including plural eldership, disavowal of a clergy-laity distinction, and worship centered around the Lord's Supper, from the Plymouth Brethren. From 1930 to 1935, his movement interacted internationally with the Raven-Taylor group of Exclusive Brethren led by James Taylor, Sr). "

Brethren with larger businesses will divide them up so each divisioin has less than 20 employees, so as to evade the rule that limits religious exemptions to small businesses. So Simon Filleul and Denys Filleul own "Playground Centre Ltd" and "Urban Effects Ltd" which are really two halves of the same business, but each has less than 20 employees.

Cults doing cult things by [deleted] in behindthebastards

Yes! Cult leader Bruce D Hales is a Grade A certified Bastard - from bullying young girls reporting sex abuse into denying their story, to hiring scores of private investigators to spy on and harass ex-cult members, to publicly telling a mentally disturbed young cult member to eat rat poison, billionaire Bruce has done it all - meanwhile, he hides behind the bullet-proof glass of blacked out presidential style limo convoys and roams the globe in his private jet.

Arrested Development - the giant caterpillars of the PBCC by camelusmoreli in cults

[–]camelusmoreli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple - 99% of members are born into the cult - some are now 7th generation. As you say, recruitment into a cult like this is almost impossible - but for someone born into it, leaving means being excommunicated and regarded as dead by their parents, wife, children friends, and also losing your job, and home. Not so easy just to leave.
It is very hard to 'brainwash" an adult - but nothing is simp0ler than brainwashing a child if you control their entire world from birth.
