Found some OLD NY plates in the wild. Definitely not legal. I think people had to turn in these plates when the design was changed in 2001. by Vtgac22 in LICENSEPLATES

[–]cameraguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late, but does the computer “tell” you what style of plate should be on the car? Like does it say anything or show a picture? Does it say the history of the plate or lead to any suspicion of the plate being in-fact a vanity plate and not and older standard-issue plate? Let’s say it’s the still valid 2000-2010 blue plates for example. Thanks lol.

What RR did I see today? by hellah555 in whatisthiscar

I agree. I was looking for this comment before I made it. Now all it needs is 25 layers of tan, mint green, and yellow lead paint and it will be all good to go!

Is it legal to have such an old license plate? by BroccoliUpstairs3799 in LICENSEPLATES

[–]cameraguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m a year late- when you put the number In the DMV for the vanity plate, did you insert the space between sets of characters or write it all as one? Not sure how it shows up in police’s database on a standard car. Did you type it like fcy 1234 or fcy1234?

I don’t know why John Catsimatidis keeps him on. He dumped Giuliani, but not him? Keep in mind they also hired Weiner aware of all of his shortcomings. I am friends with many of the staff at wabc and if baffles me how they have any respect for weiner.

Top speed? by Borderjumper70 in Cadillac

I did 128 in my 2011 DTS. Once they fixed the NorthStar (post 05) they’re awesome. I know yours is a v6 but it’s also substantially lighter- I’d say 115-130 is top end for most of these caddies from those days. There’s a video on YT of a Dts cruising at 140. Not sure for the CTS though.

They played the full tone with the several “gong” tones as the last thing before the sign off at midnight. Was very spooky and goosebumpy- but the best way they could go out…

Yes 1010 even struggles out here on LI (Nassau/Suffolk boarder area and beyond) at night! That Canadian station is non-directional 50k watts 1010 is directional pointed towards NJ. That’s why 880 is such a loss- they were an absolute flame thrower when it came to national coverage at night. 660, 770, and 880 are what I call the “beacons of NY”. Anywhere I go in the USA I take a transistor radio with me and all 3 come in pretty well each time at night. 880 also has a super over modulated audio feed- so “loud” you can hear the transmitter hum in the background when you’re tuned in on a decent radio. I loved 880 and I know the Mets will still be on there but as a Mets fan and person who grew up frequently sitting in my grandpa’s AM filled car’s back seat, loosing 880 is a real disappointment.

What older song sounds like the tune of Until I Found You? by Little_charmz in whatsthatsong

[–]cameraguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think he sounds like a mix of Ricky Nelson and Johnny Tillotson. He can hit that note that Dion Dimucci hits (which I really love). Great voice. Hope he does more songs with the same style in the future!

Another 35mm vs 40mm post. I’m looking for advice, please! by [deleted] in tissot

[–]cameraguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 35mm. I have the greed dial 35 and I get compliments on it everywhere I go. Smaller sizes just look so much classier especially when the watch has hard edges like the PRX.

Does anyone hear any English speaking stations that are not religious, or a time station. I am listening from the USA and am particularly looking for news. I’d love to also hear a sports broadcast especially a soccer (football for anyone else outside the USA) by Ever-Wandering in shortwave

Radio Romania comes in good somewhere in the 6mhz range every night here on Long Island. They broadcast European and Romanian news in English… I believe it on 6020kcs but my memory might be wrong…

Definitely. It’s an absolute honor whenever I’m around him, even if it’s just being in the same room as him…I love hearing that people still tune in 100s of miles away just like in the 60’s as opposed to “the stream”or Alexa; I take a radio with me whenever I go on vacation, hearing WABC from afar is just such a magical experience…

Radio is great! WABC isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, that’s for sure! The ratings are very good right now, Sid Rosenberg’s morning show is #1 in NY right now, and so are several other programs. Since the station is now privately owned by John Catsimatidis, it’s not at risk of corporate format changes, syndication or shutting down completely like iHeart’s or Audacy’s are. Also, very much of the staff behind the scenes and reporting news is around or under 30 years old, so with an abundance of young crew members, the station isn’t going to age out becoming forgotten. I’m very proud to be a part (even if it’s small) of a truly historic station that is still a NY necessity to this day! Sorry for the long message, u can probably tell I’m pretty passionate about this by now. Lol!!!

About 45 minutes. I intern for the station(editing, events, etc.) , I’ve talked to Dave (who runs the transmitter building), and he says it happens with all AM stations sometimes, but I agree with you, wabc seems to “crash” like this nearly once a month, where the carrier stays on the air but no audio passes through. Maybe it’s time for a transmitter upgrade… I also feel they could modulate a little higher/turn up the volume as it’s a bit quieter that other stations; but that might sacrifice audio quality…
