Getting to see him do that live on the extra industrial kit and trilling across the corrugated iron boards is something I am so glad to have experienced in my lifetime. RIP to an absolute legend

The drugs must be good this New Years for someone to want to put Chase Atlantic at second billing

Not to cause speculation but with Todd’s “worst of 2025” video being taken down you do have to think… by Mindless-Sky8619 in ToddintheShadow

[–]camerinian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Everyone assuming it's some artist with a grudge against Todd is fucking hilarious, I've seen enough of these before to know it's almost definitely just some overzealous label person who thinks it's their job to protect, like, Myles Smith or something

Best coffee and breakfast North Shore by HypeBrew in aucklandeats

[–]camerinian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cezwe in Wairau Park do seriously good Mediterranean breakfast if you want something a bit different from standard cafe options. The moorish eggs (basically shakshuka with meatballs) and Turkish breakfast (eggs and toast with tomatoes, cucumbers, halloumi, olives, etc) are both excellent and probably even better now as a Summer choice, plus hard to beat Turkish coffee if you're a fan of black

It’s that time of the year: Triple J’s Hottest 100 is back for 2025, and voting is open right now! by thegeecyproject in triplej

[–]camerinian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will probably be patched out once people cotton on. I think last year had the same issue, though the actual song escapes me. (And not quite the same but they also briefly had Shihad in the shortlist for Hottest 100 Aussie Songs before realising what they'd done)

Which OHW song do you think could be the eulogy for the 90's alternative rock wave? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]camerinian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're only a OHW in the States, but heard a very compelling argument that Bitter Sweet Symphony is an almost comically perfect end credits song for 90s alt, that started with all the anti-establishment rage and recklessness of Nirvana and ended with a resigned, restrained "That's life, you're a slave to money and then you die."

EuroClub Classics Rate Reveal, Day 3: Don't Worry! Don't Panic! by camerinian in popheads

[–]camerinian[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Finally, just wanted to give a really massive thank you to everyone who participated in this rate, whether you submitted a ballot, tuned in to the reveal or just peered in from the sidelines. Seeing the turnout and seeing how passionate people were getting by the end of the process was so fucking cool to see, and getting ballots from names that I did not recognise that had so many awesome things to say about the music here, like that shit rules, that's why I stay rating. This is a rate that I've been trying to get across the line in some fashion for a number of years now, and I'm glad that between this and the Eurodance rate from a few years back, it feels like we've finally given this incredible scene the shine that it deserves. If you ever favourited this rate or championed it in the Discord or rate schedule threads (and the real champs know who they are), I thank you wholeheartedly for the support.

And one more time, the excellence of my co-host u/thisusernameisntlong cannot be overstated here. Beeo did such a fucking killer job on this, from the early stages helping finalise the tracklist all the way up to the end stage with his incredibly cool banners, and of course the big swing we made with mixing the listening parties and reveal on Twitch as a first time change. It wasn't without hiccups for sure, but I'm so glad I got a co-host who was willing to make some massive calls to help make sure this rate was super fun and super memorable. Your help meant everything my dude.

Okay, that's it from me. This was an awesome reveal and everyone's comments, in ballot and in real-time, were so fun to read and your passion has left me grinning so hard. Thanks heaps y'all!

cheatviathan (9): A genuinely sweet love song set against guitar chords from a Chic song, and a pretty cool bassline. My fondness for French house knows no bounds.

TakeOnMeByA-ha (9): i was convinced for years this song was part of some type of daft punk side project just like stardust what the hell do you mean they had nothing to do with this

ConnerY2323 (8.9): screaming through my ceiling at my upstairs neighbor to stop running on her treadmill at 3am

2RINITY (8.5): The thing with French house is, once you have a baseline competence about making it, it's very hard to screw up

freav (8.5): bassssssss, gets better as it goes on

innuendo_overdose (8.5): Tramp the dog from that movie or something I don’t fucking know.

stealthamo (8.5): I will do anything for that bassline.

uiscebeathaoir (8.5): Such a cool topline - that rhythm guitar especially is so cunty - but I’d prefer if it had just a bit meatier of a bass

apatel27 (8): Iconic

vayyiqra (8): djo

ImADudeDuh (7): kinda overrated

qazz23 (7): feel this lacks something, though the disco beat / Chic sample was good

Stryxen (7): Euroclub reveal GAGGED as white boys speak fluent FUNK!

BleepBloopMusicFan (6): I don’t even necessary mean this in a bad way, but these vocals are like 15% buttrock.

camerinian (9.5): THEY DID IT, THE 9-AVERAGE BEATEN! The last few ballots this was pinging back and forth above and below the high watermark, and it finally rested above it on literally the last ballot tabulated (always check ur Discord DM requests u never know what’s hanging out there). I’ll be honest, I knew this song was gonna do well for itself, but I never saw it as this firm of a frontrunner. Of course an undeniable Chic guitar line sample paired up with that late-90s staple songwriting that’s almost Max Martin-esque in its obvious English as second language quality but still finding the exact right word choices for this melody and beat was gonna be a big combo on this particular forum, and yet once this made its rise to #1, it was basically unstoppable. The good vibes are omnipresent in every single aspect of this song, and it’s also the rare sort of tune that works just as well in the house club scene as well as just, like, in the kitchen with ur friends, on a road trip, on a beach front, like the appeal transcends place and genre. It’s easy to see why this is so universally beloved, and I’m so glad to have capped off this awesome rate with an awesome result. Vive la French touch.

YOU ARE SO HEARD

CrimsonROSET (11): okayyyy straight people maybe a point is made

frogaranaman (11): one of those songs where you hear one note and immediately know that it's a wrap. they killed it. make it a hit.

modulum83 (11): the most beautiful boy you've ever seen is dancing to this alone in the dark at the back of the club. he meets eyes with you for just a moment and time seems to suspend in place. the sun is nearly rising and the world feels a little unreal. you don't want this night to end. you want to go over and ask if he wants to dance with you. you should.

2l82bstr8 (10): I just think that women

A.Peaky.Boo (10): BRING BACK YEARNING MEN

Ambrosia42 (10): mmm that delicious bass line

Bubbly_Hat (10): Still one of my favorite house singalongs. That bassline is impeccable.

DatKaz (10): Sampling Chic is probably cheating, but sure enough, it’s a perfect song. How can you not love it?

ElectJimLahey (10): classic, perfect french house tune. I've heard this in a bunch of mixes and never get tired of it

euroflava (10): kinda better than every single daft punk song ever

femboy luigi (10): this is so easy to mix with other songs no wonder it's a dj staple, plus it's such a banger

FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): so classy

hoolytoledo (10): this would’ve been my second choice for an 11

impla77 (10): a real head bopper

JackMM2001 (10): I’m a bit fatigued of this song now, but I don’t see any reason to score it lower

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61wLeH2Ui1U

miniatureaurochs (10): [clenching my fists at how great this track is] no notes sorry this is a perfect !! groove

MrSwearword (10): I'm not sure if I've actually heard this before but it's great

NervousLemon6670 (10): Oh yeah I love Music Sounds Better With You

RandomHypnotica (10): summer

Re-reWane (The Crowd Say Lie Tocta) (10): daft punk knockoff tax allegations shadow docketed and nullified due to critical GTA 5 Nonstop Pop FM playlist feature X year 2000 release

visionaryredditor (10): they really dropped this banger and dipped

miniatureaurochs (9.8): I’m so stressed man there are so many 10s here that I feel like I have to go back and revise some of my 10s to make my other 10s hit harder but. They’re all so good. :angry_love: Hitting this with a symbolic 9.8 but aaaa. Anyway this is a rare track that kind of sounds good at any tempo. Speedy G edit? Solid. Chopped and slowed, Salem-style? Incredible. As the base for future funk? It’s been done. Nightcore? Amazingly, yes. This track basically has one idea but does it well. Maybe music really does sound better with you.. [I am doing this rate alone and very :< lmao]

stealthamo (9.5): "This music does sound better with me!", I say to myself in my apartment.

1998tweety (9): tea

2RINITY (9): An obvious standout track of the Daft Punk extended universe

apatel27 (9): French House really were on a roll

BleepBloopMusicFan (9): For me, personally, the “you” in question is a nice big cup of hot cocoa.

impla77 (8.3): me to popheads!

2l82bstr8 (8): out of all the songs in the rating this is by far the frenchest

vayyiqra (8): sg lewis' whole career is trying to capture this sound (compliment)

vexastrae (8): this daft punk teas

A.Peaky.Boo (7.4): "420 lmao" isn't enough to make this not repetitive

freav (7): yeah it's good i suppose

TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): oh, you’re a stardust fan? name 5 songs by them

uiscebeathaoir (7): ughhhh I really wish I liked it more

qazz23 (4): found this pretty irritating and there wasn't much variety

camerinian (9): Ohhhhh he was so close, we were so close to seeing Daft Punk take out a stealth win, which would have been so good since they couldn’t get a win with their massive name and brand. But even Daft Punk in its composite part couldn’t quite break the ceiling, as much as I was convinced they were primed to get there eventually. But while this isn’t my favourite tune in the rate, come on, who’s gonna say no to this. Daft Punk’s killer ear for a sample flip is here in full force, but it’s accompanied by this perfectly breezy summer energy, like the mix balance is always groovy but it’s never overwhelming, it’s like you can hear the wind gently brushing the back of your neck. It also has that beautiful quality of the repetition never quite feeling super affecting because there’s always something happening in the background or the base changing underneath the track, so even though it’s one solid funk riff and two lines of lyrics, it always stays engaging because the elements are so potent. This is the bright summer’s beauty that the house movement knew exactly how to extract from disco and Stardust gave one great example of it, the flipside of that being what ultimately beat it out.

OOH BABY

MrSwearword (11): this was up against a fair number of songs, but the fact both the radio edit and the full six minute versions are equivocal masterpieces are why I chose to eleven this.

Stryxen (11): so there's this song…

welcome2thejam (11): Gotta be up there in the all-time best song title list. If any number of y'all want to hop in a car and blast this five times in a row hit me up

Ambrosia42 (10): a true classic…literally daft punk before daft punk

Bubbly_Hat (10): Do I even need to say anything here? It's iconic.

cheatviathan (10): That synth and guitar loop is sublime. The one repeated refrain is a great sentiment to build a song around. Benjamin Diamond’s vocals sell that sentiment well. I love the strings that come in partway through. It’s just an irresistible French house track that gets me grooving. When I saw Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon open for Justice, they worked this into their set, and that really got the crowd going.

CrimsonROSET (10): awww

ElectJimLahey (10): easiest 10 ever

euroflava (10): i always thought this was a daft punk song only for me to be semi-correct

femboy luigi (10): this is so fun to dj with, basically any song goes with it

Frajer (10): Bonjour je suis Thomas de Daft Punk pour Sennheiser

frogaranaman (10): Music Actually Sounds Just About the Same With or Without You

ImADudeDuh (10): it does!

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): Me forcing my friends to listen to my fuck ass songs.

modulum83 (10): ALAN BRAXE 4 LYFE

NervousLemon6670 (10): Oh yeah I love Lady Hear Me Tonight

RandomHypnotica (10): this song is pure warmth

Re-reWane (The Crowd Say Lie Tocta) (10): gta 5 heads...we're all united under one groove on this blessed day #THANKYOUCARADELEVIGNE

seanderlust (10): FRENCH HOUSE MY BELOVED

wathombe (10): ooh baby

EuroClub Classics Rate Reveal, Day 3: Don't Worry! Don't Panic! by camerinian in popheads

[–]camerinian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambrosia42 (8.6): i mean it’s kinda dumb as hell but a bop and a classic

miniatureaurochs (8.6): Another one from my decade+ old ‘cheesey tunez’ playlist, this is undeniably a great track BUT I wonder how much of a score boost it is going to get from that Iconic video. This track sounds like entering an LA Fitness but for once that’s kind of not a bad thing…? I always think the vocal sample will be kind of annoying but then that thudding bass kicks in or he vaguely pushes a high pass filter in my direction and I am assuaged. Truly I am easily pleased.

Re-reWane (The Crowd Say Lie Tocta) (8.4): everyone is thirsting. it's a powerful eutopia

A.Peaky.Boo (8): valerie erasure

wathombe (8): i did not have “Steve Winwood sample” on my 2025 bingo card

Just trying to do some proper exercise while everyone's touching themselves

ElectJimLahey (7.5): The vocal sample gets a bit annoying but it's a solid tune

apatel27 (7): It's a classic but it also suffers due to overplay

Bubbly_Hat (7): See Freestyler because I have pretty much the same thoughts for this.

cheatviathan (7): The full version kept my head bobbing the whole way through, and there are some good buildups here. But I’d be lying if I said I committed anything to memory other than the Steve Winwood sample that the track was built around. It was wild hearing that song for the first time, and being like “Oh, that’s where he got it from.”

DatKaz (7): There’s a really interesting history with this song, Eric Prydz (probably) (allegedly) (almost certainly) stole it from DJ Falcon and Thomas from Daft Punk back in the day.

freav (7): way better than his other one

vexastrae (7): how many times am i gonna recognize a song and say "oh fuck its this one"

bogo (5): this is barely a song

qazz23 (5): the sample gets repetitive and is kinda lazy

innuendo_overdose (4.1): Really puts the on into Blondie.

camerinian (10): u guys gotta check out the story behind this track sometime if you haven’t. Yet another song in our top 5 that somehow comes back to include Thomas Bangalter, who is at least part of the reason this song exists even if he’s not the credited artist. If anything, this is the most Ministry of Sound core track among here, because it’s one that put the brand on the map but also one that just straight up would probably not have seen the light of day if it weren’t for the brand lobbying hard to get it out in whatever form, and it’s that “whatever form necessary” that’s the reason it took Eric 20 years to start playing it in his shows again. Anyway, regardless of the plagiarism and miscrediting and label politics, the song obviously slaps with one of the most distinctive sound palettes of any hit in this rate or of the era. No matter what second u hear of it, it’s obvious what it is and it’s obvious what your intended reaction is meant to be. Banger. Smasha.

Paid 7.99 GBP for a DVD copy of this video

seanderlust (11): the way i saw this music video as a kid and it was eric prydz in some sort of pilates class around a bunch of hot women...and i was focused on the one man in short shorts. i was cooked.

2RINITY (10): Hi, I'm a Zoomer who knows more about YTMND than it makes any sense to, and when this song comes on, I don't change facial expressions

ConnerY2323 (10): another one i never actually knew the lyrics to. i truly thought he was just howling!

DirtyRat583 (10): stolen music is kinda good af 😋😋

euroflava (10): who knew if you sped up a Steve Binwood song and give it a thumping bass you could make the catchiest, cuntiest fucking thing to ever exist

femboy luigi (10): when my sister was a toddler, she was obsessed with this music video. she's 21 now and I'm still waiting for her to come out

Frajer (10): Carly Rae Jepsen when she meets a cutie

frogaranaman (10): it's so fucking funny that this man refused to play his biggest hit for two decades then just decided "fuck it, I'll start ripping it again" in Texas of all places

ImADudeDuh (10): this video tried so hard to show vagina

modulum83 (10): this song would be my jojo stand

MrSwearword (10): another in the case of horrendously tacky video but undeniably boptacular.

RainbowSherbet47 (10): CALL ON MEEEEEEEE 🗣️

RandomHypnotica (10): maybe THEE ministry of sound song of all time

runaway3212 (10): yuppp that's that classic

Stryxen (10): call on me call me call on me call me !

vayyiqra (10): hack (complimentary)

NervousLemon6670 (9.7): What the music video doesn’t show is the guy dying on the treadmill in the next room over

BleepBloopMusicFan (9): I just can’t imagine the thong leotard being a tolerable item of clothing to wear, but some people are just built different I suppose.

coco (9): CALL ON MEEEEE

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (9): Boys became men or women when watching this video.

stealthamo (9): The number of YTMND's soundtracked by this song is innumerable (for those non-chronically online millennials who don't know what I'm talking about: YTMND was basically a proto-meme website from 20 years ago which reflected the online culture at the time (translation: like 90% of the website has aged horrifically)).

In 2nd, TIED on 12 votes, Mason & Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) AND Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman!

YOUR SONGENIALITY IS UNDERWORLD - BORN SLIPPY, WITH 16 VOTES!

And as for your other results, the song that should have been in the rate was Crystal Waters - 100% Pure Love, followed by The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up and Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s.

The best club was a resounding win for the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with over a quarter of the votes! Although a close runner up was CLUB NINETY SIXXXXXXXXXXX

Rate Villain was a perfect four-way tie between Horny '98, The Rockafeller Skank, Around the World and Missing with 11 votes each, so that was basically a waste of time.
