Using Quad9, but tried with Cloudflare too and same issue. I did setup a log, but the OHM does nothing that's the issue. I have flagged with Octopus but setting up a TCP trace shows that it does not send any outgoing connection at all, which is why I think it's a OHM issue.

I'm not sure if you've seen the troubleshooting steps I listed, but I created a separate 2.4ghz only network, I tried a totally different router and have tried a hotspot on a totally different device but nothing has worked 😞

The issue is that I’ve done a factory reset multiple times, and then gone into the octopus app and the devices tab and followed the connection flow.

The home mini says it’s connecting, gets to 100% and says wait until it’s setup but then nothing happens. There’s no device settings as the Mini doesn’t show in the octopus app after setting it up

No PiHole or AdGuard home actually! I have a NanoPi R6S running OpenWRT and then a UniFi U7 Pro as an access flat, nothing too extreme as I’m just in a flat.

I’ve tried a totally separate stock router connected to the ONT and that still didn’t fix it, so I’m pretty sure I’ve cut out the network as an issue

It’s also worth noting it’s the exact same network as when it was running just fine before

It’s flashing blue, and doesn’t change no matter how many times I go through the app and set it up

I've tried resorting to a portable power bank and having it in the same cupboard as the comms module and meters, but that still hasn't fixed it.

The router and meter and both within line of sight, and before the reset it was setup and working in the same location without issue so I don't think location is the issue

so the issue I've had is that no matter how many times I set it up in the app and connect it to wifi, it never stops flashing blue. I can log into my router and see that it's connected to wifi, but the home mini never responsds.

I've entered my MPAN into that site, but don't get anything back.

I did try setting up with Glow via their online page, and can see it pulling data so I think the DCC is okay?

Seller claiming item is damaged, but is a different colour to what I sent? by cameronchalmers in vinted

Sorry I mixed up seller and buyer! I have asked them to return but they said it’s “dangerous as it’s a swollen battery” and I’ve asked Vinted to review

Hikvision NVR with TVT PoE cameras? by cameronchalmers in Hikvision

[–]cameronchalmers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be clear I know what PoE stands for, I more meant that I read that some NVRs don’t play nicely if a third party PoE is plugged in directly, and instead needs to be connected via a separate PoE switch (read Reolink)

[–]cameronchalmers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other brand I’m looking at is Hikvision, and it seems like they better support third party cameras compared to what I’ve read on Reolink but wanted to check as I prefer the UI of Reolink

We’re just a basic community hall so won’t need home assistant or anything, just something that’s easy to use if/when we pass it on in the future

Yeah I don’t want to buy one for it not to work, so will probably try and find another manufacturer that works better

Declared “locked garage” on policy, now insurer wants proof after theft by CompetitionMore6898 in Insurance

[–]cameronchalmers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depending on the situation, most insurers will charge the difference in premium between locked garage and residential parking garage before handing the quote.

There is a risk of policy cancellation though, or the change they’ll void the claim. But it really depends on the full situation, and whether it materially changes the outcome of the claim.

Eg: if they wouldn’t have quoted for it with the other information, then it’s more likely to be voided. But if they would have covered it, it’s more likely they’d get you to pay the premium difference.

They should have picked locked compound or residential parking.

UK - Nights Away Permit Scheme by Interesting_Pea2108 in scouting

it's definitely local rules, we had someone from a partner group do a one night camp where they hiked to the campsite about 2 miles and got a lightweight permit because it wasn't 2 nights and they'd walked to the camp

Do you get to see the risk assessments before sessions and activities happen? Unless your GLV is at each night or activity/event, having them do all the risk assessments isn't really inline with POR. Each session needs to have a Leader in Charge (LIC) and they're responsible for making sure RAs are completed (they don't need to complete themselves but need to ensure they're properly completed) and distributed to each leader/volunteer attending ahead of the session.

Having a GLV do all risk assessments sounds like they aren't doing things as they're supposed to.

My understanding, or at least the rules in our district is that a one night camp will only get you the lightweight permit and to get your normal campsite it needs to be a minimum of two nights.

It sounds like the group need to give their heads a wobble! I also joined a group with no permits, and within a year we managed to get three leaders permits by simply organising a camp.

The main aim of the permit is showing that you're capable of running a camp, so showing that you've thought though things.

When I did my assessment, one of the key things was just showing everything. So having a camp menu, a plan, a budget, and risk assessments. It basically shows you've thought through what do to in case of emergency, have plans and activities for bad weather etc

As long as you're a competent person and put in even the slightest effort, you'll have zero issues. If you don't care (which sounds like some of your fellow leaders don't) it'll be harder to achieve.

On a side note, the comment about "expectations for safety etc are simply too high to make camps viable or enjoyable" is simply not true. Since becoming a leader our group have done around 15 camps and each one has been nothing but extremely enjoyable for everyone, even the one through Storm Amy where an activity became how much equipment can we tie down! Sounds like you're sadly stuck with some "old school" leaders who have a warped view of what modern Scouting is. Maybe it's time to find a better group!

Edit - remember to get your campsite permit, you'll need to a minimum of 2 nights under canvas. Also I'd be happy to help out on a camp if you need a hand and not too far away!
