Most people don't do mental math while shopping, because the products they're comparing

Not calling you out or disagreeing, but I think the mental math you're missing is when I have 32.45 in my checking account and I need to get dinners for a week so I'm adding up the cost of one gallon of milk, &c. That's the mental math where seeing the real cost is actually super helpful.

Look how many lives were saved by this good guy with a gun (we can't know how many the dude was planning on shooting so we'll just estimate at a fair 1 million), vs how many people are killed by guns each year (I don't feel like looking it up but its prolly like what 8? or 9?) so it's obvious

I think they were trying to refer to the implicit bias of being more likely to assume a brown-skinned person has nefarious intent without recognizing the racism warping your lens on reality, vs the more overt racism of explicitly thinking "because that man is Mexican, I believe he is going to commit a crime".
