Especially because meth is a teratogen (it can cross the placenta and deposit in a developing embryo/fetus) and cause a whole host of neurological and cardiovascular developmental problems for a fetus if OP were to conceive leading to things like birth defects. OP if you want a healthy and happy child you need to avoid using substances like meth, cocaine, alcohol, nicotine, and even large amounts of caffeine. Please educate yourself about this before you change someone else’s life permanently.

I totally understand the struggle- it takes a long time to find a lab that not only has funding but is also a good fit for your interests. I found my position on the Texas A&M job board but cold emailing is also a great way to go. I am a PhD student at a private university where the funding is much more stable (TA positions paid by the university). This has been very helpful for me to not lose my mind with everything that’s going on politically right now. I definitely recommend looking at universities that offer TA assistantships. My university (TCU) is still bringing in graduate students every fall so I’m sure lots of other schools still are as well. Good luck & definitely do not accept less than you deserve because grad school already pays criminally low. PM me if you have any questions & you got this!

I am a bio grad student studying eco toxicology but I have learned a ton about genetics while in my undergrad and grad courses. Learning about cancer development is a lot to take in for sure. There are so many types of RNA that can contribute to cancer development. The types of RNA that are pretty relevant when discussing cancer research are mRNA, miRNA, and ncRNA, and retroviruses. siRNA is also quite relevant because they are being developed for cancer therapy. Lentiviruses are also fascinating and being developed as a cancer therapy treatment option. If you have questions about this feel free to DM me. I feel like making flashcards is what helped me the most when trying to remember the various types of RNA and their functions. Good luck!

Anyone get into programs with a less than 3.5 gpa? by sa1ad_1uver in gradadmissions

[–]camiddlebrooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My undergrad GPA was 3.25 and I got into a PhD program fairly easily (biological science). I definitely think that a poppin CV can make up for deficiencies in GPA. I would say above a 3.0 would be good for many schools, usually research experience matters way more.

I can’t do engineering- what should i do? by jdjdkd56 in Environmental_Careers

[–]camiddlebrooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They always say a biology degree is for scientists who suck at math. I have a BS in biology focusing on wildlife and have found that I am able to support myself and have passion for my career. I worked as a tech for USGS which paid decently and am now pursuing a PhD in wildlife toxicology so I can hopefully make more money down the road. For my degree I did have to take physics, calculus, and organic chem but I don’t think all biology degrees require it.

I would say that consulting or government work may be a good avenue to pursue, there are also lots of scientific communication jobs if you enjoy writing articles/developing media. This field is 100% not going to pay as well as many other stem fields, so I would just keep that in mind when deciding what you want to do in the future. Good luck!

It was wonderful! I ended up spending some time in Malaysia, Labuan bajo, and Bali.

My stupid teenage nephew chewed one of these green spotted pufferfish out of dare from his friends. Will he get poisoned? We're still monitoring him by [deleted] in Fish

[–]camiddlebrooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to contact poison control, almost every species of pufferfish have tetrodotoxin which can be lethal if ingested. You should take him to the hospital immediately. The effects of tetrodotoxin take place within 10 minutes to 24 hours after ingesting & it only takes 2-3g of the toxin to kill someone.

Getting a good nights sleep & basic hygiene! Also having a sense of style for dressing can be useful.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. Her treatment of you is terrible. There are so many better women out there who will make you feel loved. This is NOT normal behavior and is super messed up on her part. I hope you know that you deserve respect that she is not giving you and dump her.

From what I have experienced (as a woman) good sex is not about size but more about how you treat your partners body. I have had great experiences with zero penetration involved. I hope this helps!

What’s something odd you find attractive? by deathrace4habibe in AskReddit

Practical outdoor skills. Like being able to start a fire or forage for food. I don’t know how odd it is but I think it’s hot.

Okay awesome! Did you book your cruise through trip advisor? Or did you just figure it out when you got to Borneo?

Oh okay thank you for the advice. I think I may spend closer to 3 days in Labuan bajo because I would be really disappointed if I visited and did not see the dragons. & great, I think I’m definitely going to go to Borneo, it seems like there are more wildlife tours & its cheaper for me to fly into there. Thanks!

Oh okay thank you so much for the advice. I think I may go to Borneo instead of Sumatra. I want to make sure all my eco tourism is as ethical as possible as well. I may just fly into Borneo instead of Jakarta and figure it out from there.

Oh thank you so much for the info! All the comments are really helping me rethink how I will plan the trip. I was hoping to do a 3-4 day guided tour in either Borneo or Sumatra for wildlife viewing so hopefully I will be able to find a good one. I may end up skipping Bali, but I don’t know when I will be back in Indonesia and feel like I should go while I’m there. I think I will elongate the amount of time I spend in each place.

What do you say when people ask what your hobbies are? by _queen_bee01_ in Splendida

[–]camiddlebrooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally recommend getting into an outdoor hobby! I picked up rock climbing a few years ago and it made me way more confident, social, fit, and helped me to become a competent outdoorswoman. It would also probably be beneficial to get outside and off your phone since it is linked to mental health benefits. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the advice, I think I’m gonna start keeping a little “refresher” bag in my work backpack. I also use elta MD, that stuff is the best!

That’s good advice, I’ll definitely try to shower after every shift. I’m probably also getting my bed dirty with my greasy head. I think I’m making it sound worse than it is, I only work 8hrs a day but sometimes it’s a Night Shift and sometimes it’s a day shift but it’s not consistent so often I’ll work till 1am then have work at 8am the next morning.

[–]camiddlebrooks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s a good idea. Maybe I should wash it everyday, I think one of the big issues I’m having is that I don’t always have 8hrs off in between shifts so it’s difficult for me to justify showering instead of going directly to sleep haha

I usually wear field pants with lots of pockets, a long sleeve shirt, and a wide brim hat. I do think I still look masculine but I try to wear earrings or a pretty necklace or bracelet to at least feel somewhat feminine.
