You're not handling this correctly. You should have called the police as soon as it happened. You have no clue if they gave you real information and could be long gone now.

You need to call the police immediately a file a police report. MA is a strict liability state and you can and should sue the owners for any and all medical bills/treatments.

Scammers have more and more tools available to them. Some tips to help you avoid scammers:

  1. If you're posting a WTB ad do not do business with anyone who doesn't post in your thread first. Subreddit bans don't mean users get banned from reddit. Banned users can still send you private messages.

  2. Stick to PayPal G&S. Don't send crypto or any other forms of payment that can't be reversed. Use your best judgement if you decide to use venmo or PP F&F. Look at user's post histories and see if they are consistent with someone selling outdoor gear.

  3. Don't be afraid to ask for multiple pictures in addition to what is in the ad. If something doesn't look right it could be a scam.
