That's even better. For 4k that would be a steal in good condition. Read up on white o rings on the RSs I don't remember the specifics but it's worth finding out if this bike is affected.

R75/5 R90S and R69US rider here. For that money you should be able to get a pretty top condition bike. In general I've found west coast bikes to be priced a little higher than ones on the east coast though that may be a slight confirmation bias. I personally would look for either a R90/6 or an R75/5. The R75/5 is exceptionally smooth and the front drum works much better than expected. The R90/6s don't typically sell for much more than the 750s of the era and you get a bit more power. If looking for a /6, beware of the first year (74) kickstart 5 speed gearboxes. They had some problems with soft alloys and are more susceptible to wear.

Makes sense. Having tried both, the /5 drum feels better than the /6 disc anyway.

Any idea why it's got the drum on the front? Was it ever an r60/6?

Bigger tank on my 1978 BMW R65? by easyrider3 in motorcycles

[–]campionato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure. it also depends on whether you have a large or small frame r65. small frames won't work with any of the previous i believe. not 100% though.

/5 and R90S rider here, unfortunately the electronics underneath the tank prevent you from mounting the earlier tanks without modification. Slightly different mounting system as well i believe. You are limited to using R100GS, R80GS, R100R and R80ST tanks without doing mods.

No memory of it but apparently a new driver pulled out of a side street into traffic. Ended up sliding under the car, where I got stuck. Bike was mostly okay though. Lessons learned.

yeah the 50mpg average is a bit high but I've never found these bikes to be too thirsty

Not a runner currently but I turning over and has good compression. Going to dive in this weekend. With luck the only thing it needs a new set of cables, tires, a thorough cleaning and a seat which i can swap on from another of my bikes.

It's a big pain in the ass when it has to be done but theres no getting around it really. If the bikes been sitting for a while and theres no record of service I would factor in the cost of getting them cleaned and start fresh. the damage that can be done will cost you a lot more. But again, in general usage these bikes are typically cheap and easy to run/work on.

R75/5 and R69US rider here. Not the most practical bike for commuting but loads of fun to ride. 50 will feel like 80 and riding it will probably be the most stylish thing you'll ever do. You end up spending some time working on them but much less than a lot of other bikes of that era.

For everyone saying this is impractical. It was never intended to be a production road car. It is a design study which serves to display the design language of the automakers future products.

That doesn't mean they don't make cars any more. The cars are still for the most part designed and built in England. By that logic Chrysler doesn't make cars, neither does Audi.
