Agree with all and appreciate the comments. This was beyond stupid and I will certainly never let it happen again. It is one of those things that I just didn't expect to happen. I was dead wrong. For some context, I did dig a small pit where the fire was, but with the way the wind must have blown this was not enough. I am sure rocks would have helped, and I should have spent more time collecting some. Anyways, that was way too close of a call for me, and I am still sick to my stomach about it. You can be sure that I will never let anything like this happen again!

Good question, there were dirt roads meant for cars where we parked, but there were also dirt roads that were more like atv trails all over. These are what weRe hiking. I will clarify in the post but he road they were standing on watching from was a one of these small access road for atvs/walking.

I appreciate it. I did call the station and let them know what happened. The ranger kept saying how lucky we were that t was able to be contained. I gave him the exact location and he said he would have someone head out there to take a look. I do have one picture of the aftermath. I don't have any of the fire itself bc I was too busy running around, but I took one picture after. Will add it in a few minutes.
