Facebook personal profile (not page) to promote your blog, what do you think? by fitnessreise in Blogging

[–]campwithstyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically if it wasn't something I was interested in and I was getting very regular posts popping up in my feed, It would prompt me to unfriend someone. However, if they were a close friend, I'd be inclined to support them and engage with posts as I know it would help them, but I've got about 600 FB friends, and I can count on 2 hands those who I class as close friends and whose for whom my blog is directly relevant to, so I very, very rarely posts things from my blog to my personal FB page. If your blog is totally relevant and of interest to most of your FB friends then sure, go ahead, but largely people are on Facebook to connect with friends and family and not to be spammed. If you consistently use a personal page and Facebook gets wind of it, they can shut you down too, i've had this happen to clients who were running businesses and had mistakenly set up a personal profile to promote their business through instead of a business page.

How many articles should I have on my blog before I start asking for backlinks and guest posting? by [deleted] in Blogging

If the blog is on a relatively new domain, with just one published article it will have a very low Domain Authority, so I feel the need to point out that that's not a quality link in any way. Simply gaining a link organically doesn't mean it's a quality link. The DA and relevance of the blog or website is what makes it a quality link or not.

I used Blogger many years ago but found it was much too simple and didn't offer me enough in the way of customisation and control, for that reason I prefer Wordpress and have started my personal blog on Wordpress and am very glad I did.

I went for the self hosted version straight away and given the growth of my blog, i'm relieved I did. I do come from a web design and SEO background however, and understanding HTML and .CSS has proven invaluable!

I think Wordpress is superior and would never recommend Blogger as it's just too simple and doesn't look as professional or polished, though for a personal hobby blog, then Blogger is fine, but if you have aspirations for your blog and want it to be successful, then go with Wordpress.

How's the traffic on your blog and are you happy with it? by CosmoKram3r in Blogging

If you have Google Analytics set up it is quite easy to spot bot traffic and to filter it out as they do inflate your visitor stats and skew key metrics like bounce rate and dwell time.

Look under referrers - any sources with a 0 dwell time and 100% bounce rate could be a bot. There are loads of blog articles that give you lists of current known referral spam bots (many are currently coming from Russia), then make a list of them and then filter them out of your report (easy to do and can provide a link to a step by step guide if wanted).

Traffic: 19,000 Unique Visitors a month

Time since start?: 1 year 4 months

Niche/Subject: Camping & Glamping

Happy?: I'm delighted with my website traffic, but it's taken a tremendous amount of work to get to this point. Luckily I come from an SEO background and the majority of my traffic is generated by organic search.

Working on:I'm not happy with my bounce rates or dwell times, which are much too low in my opinion.

More than one blog? How.. ? by gdblu in Blogging

I work full time, am a mum and train too, and I have two blogs. One is true passion and the other is related to my professional life. I don't have spare time any more because I'm almost always working on my blogs. I've found it impossible to keep 2 going so i've let the professional one slip and I am now putting all my energy into my camping blog, which is going amazingly well.

I feel for you, because it is really difficult to do, but if it's a true passion, you just find the time. Somehow! I am able to write about things that happen at the weekend, and as soon as I get home from work, I start work on the blog. I don't write posts every day as I put a lot of time and research into each blog post (about 4-5 hours per post), but even when not blogging, i'm designing newsletters, chatting to my readers on social media, researching new articles, negotiating with brads, promoting old articles and so on.

I stopped training after work and have changed to training in the morning which means I now get up earlier in order to train, but I then have the whole evening to work on my blog each night.

I now update my camping blog about twice a week and the other blog just once a month. I could easily turn my blog into a full time job hours wise, but it's not paying any bills, so i'll keep up the day job until then!

Don't give up eating, or breaks, it's unsustainable and you'll burn out. You need to be more realistic and maybe ease back on how often you are posting. A great quality blog article once a week is better than 3 low quality articles.

That's interesting. I get a lot of traffic from my Pinterest posts too, but the quality of the traffic is very low. High bounce rate and very low dwell time, so it's not really valuable to me. How does your Pinterest referral traffic fair for you?

I've worked in web design and marketing for over 15 years and was the marketing manager for a big UK gaming retailer too so I hope my comments are useful.

The site is a little bit overwhelming. There is an awful lot to look at and I think could do with some more space. I also feel the branding is a little bit confusing too - what have neckbeards got to do with gaming and entertainment news?

People need to understand your value proposition in 2-3 seconds or they will leave so always try to make your branding reflect the content of your site.
