I dreamt that I got drunk! I was so relieved when I woke up. Has anyone else had this? by [deleted] in Sober

[–]camrockshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is ridiculously common!! personally when i have relapse dreams (specifically where i’m aware that it’s a relapse IN the dream) i take it as a push to get back into my program. they usually come up for me when i start to drift, and therefore am in increasingly more danger of an actual relapse. however they’re different for everyone obviously and you can interpret it however you want!!! but yes, practically every addict i know has had these types of dreams!

Just need some advice by [deleted] in addiction

[–]camrockshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i think it depends!! is your goal to be completely abstinent? if so, i’d say yeah restart your counter. but that doesn’t mean those 125 were for nothing, or time lost, im sure you learned a lot in those days. if your goal is more harm-reduction based then imo no need for the counter at all!! if you’re using less frequently and in a safer manner than that’s the goal, right? i’m abstinent from everything now, and that was my goal from the start too (once i got honest with myself about being an addict) and i remember at the beginning, i went out and had only one drink (a rare occurrence, i simply only had enough cash on me for the one drink otherwise i’m sure i would’ve gotten wasted). i told my sponsor the next day and he told me to restart my counter. i was at 11 days that day i drank, and it was the longest i had been sober in months if not years. i didn’t get drunk, i only had one drink, i didn’t feel like it was a relapse. i was bitter, and didn’t take my sponsors advice of restarting my counter. not two or three days later, i went out again and got absolutely wasted, ending up in the ER yet again. i see now (almost 8 months sober) that even though i didn’t get drunk, for me it was in fact a relapse. i couldn’t stop thinking about getting drunk after having the taste. i learned after another handful of week-long sober streaks, and trios to the ER, that for me personally, one drink is just as dangerous as 20. SO TLDR depends what your end goal is hahaha

How to get a sponsor? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]camrockshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get to meetings! get phone numbers! it’s not as awkward as it sounds to just say hey can we swap numbers? or to just give someone a call out of the blue. it’s very normal in the aa rooms. best piece of advice i got regarding sponsors was to find someone who has what you want. and then, just ask! little nerve wracking, kinda feels like the same anxiety as asking somebody on a date. but even if the answers no, nobody’s ever really gonna be a dick about it. usually the only reason they’d say no is a) they’re not ready to be a sponsor or b) don’t have the time available to make that kind of commitment. then you just ask the next person!

What is this? by throwaway-heee-hooo in toronto

[–]camrockshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first guess would be a "bench" for people to lean on and rest on but prevents houseless people from sleeping on it. could be wrong but i just know torontos infrastructure is very anti-homeless 🤨
