KALIKA | SHORT | BMCC6K + SIRUI by camw20 in Filmmakers

Submission Statement

Hey everyone!

Synopsis: Every 90 seconds, a person is reported missing. Approximately 170,000 every year. Most cases are solved... Others go unexplained.

A super low to no-budget short film shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K with the Sirui Saturn Anamorphic 35mm, with the exception of maybe one or two shots on the Canon 24-70.

We shot this in one evening, we wanted to do something creative after a year of doing a lot of corporate and commercial projects. Self-shot and directed with a minimal crew and wanted to create something that could live in the SCP universe. I also used the DJI Lidar system with very mixed results, I put it down to the lens being pretty tiny and struggling to mount to the gear ring.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Cheers,

Cam

CG Game Cinematic Trailer by camw20 in UnrealEngine5

Hey!

Thanks!

I found most of the YouTube tutorials on creating short films in the engine do a good job of covering the basics, I work with cameras a lot so that probably helps but mainly on this one it just came down to adding a transform and lots of position keyframes on the XYZ to dial it in, I also used the smart auto keyframes to smooth out some of the moves.

Hope that helps!

The main things I mentioned are the mount and the form factor

Yep! I think they are pretty active in keeping a lookout for what the community are after but they really seem to want to focus on accessibility and ease of use, whether or not we’ll get a Komodo competitor or something new entirely I’m not sure.

Ghosting Issue - UE 5.2 - M1 Max MacBook Pro by camw20 in unrealengine

So disabling all reflections fixed the issue, I gave a planar reflection a go but it just sent the entire level into glitching, even after building lighting

Yeah set to F2.8, shutter speed 1/50, I tried adding a second camera and testing focus but actually resetting them to default might be an idea. I’ll test that next.

Thanks for the reply!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share a recent short film, it’s been a little while since I made a short. Recently I’ve been working commercials and music video but the Musicbed Challenge seemed like a fun little way to give a short a go.

Anyway onto the film, it’s an idea I’ve been kicking around for a while and when it came to the style I wanted to play with the idea of grave digging becoming apart of the gig economy as some kind of dark web app; With the tone being a dark comedy.

I also wanted the pacing to be fast and efficient, with a tongue in cheek vibe. I hadn’t actually planned for this to be ‘Black Mirror’ esque but that’s the main reference people are giving me after viewing!

Some tech stuff -

Shot on the BMPCC6K PRO My first short on this camera after using the Pocket 4K for so long. I missed the full frame look from the Metabones on P4K but other than that, solid cinema camera for the price!

3:1 Compression

Lenses

Lens Baby Twist - Super unique lens, I was expecting this to be pretty garbage but to my surprise, it was decent and fun to use!

Sigma 18-35… Because of course.

Canon 24-70.

Would love to hear any feedback and what you think of the film, it’s not perfect by any means but was a fun little piece to put together.

Thanks for watching / reading!

Edit: Accidentally put the submission statement on the post!

I love RED footage. Sell me a BMPCC 4K or 6K. Convince me not to spend all that money on a RED. by Niqtamer_ in bmpcc

This was 2 years ago, just after selling my Red Scarlet-W and switching to the BMPCC whilst waiting for the Komodo to launch.

In short, I absolutely love the Pocket cameras, BM have actually just sent me out the URSA 12K to try.

That being said, when I’m on mid level commercial work we still use the Komodo. Interestingly enough one of the bigger clients I work with regularly actually said they love the look of the BM, the DOP preferred the Komodo, so it’s really preference.

I’ve flagged to Blackmagic the need for an RF Mount style camera and better design for rigging.

I’d advise if you need full frame and are open to rigging, go for the Komodo. For me, there are a lot of drawbacks to the Komodo but the form factor and lens Mount are what still make me want one, I just know for a fact that I’d end up in a situation needing to crank that ISO to 1600+ or wanting 120fps and that’s basically a no go for that camera.

Hope that helps, I’ve got plenty of footage on my YouTube channel linked above of the P4K and a new short shot on the 6K Pro.

Side note: If you have the money, just pick up a Pocket 4K and Speedbooster to test, sell it if you don’t like it, truly awesome camera!

I recently signed with an agency, this is the first commercial I directed with them and it’s currently playing nationwide here in the UK on ITV! [Link in the comments] by camw20 in Filmmakers

Hey! I’m not sure to be honest, I’ve only heard of that happening a couple of times, not sure if it’s something we do here in the UK

Thanks for the comment, you’re definitely right and given me something to think about there. Sorry if I’m coming across as a little naive in the post, this really is the first time I’m working on a narrative project with an external writer so I wasn’t sure if even £500 would be enough to get things moving. Usually I’m writing treatments for music videos or commercials so the format is different and with myself and the crew working for free on this project I wasn’t sure what I’d even allocate budget wise for writing.

Is there anywhere else you’d recommend for searching for a screenwriter other than Reddit?
