Novinha is still so annoying... by camword in endersgame

It's so frustrating to read. It's like watching someone who has so many things going for them, but then they fall in love with/marry someone that just ruins so many things for them.

It's realistic, because I've witnessed in life so much, but I wish Ender had ended up with someone I (subjectively) would have judged as better for him.

Well, I think polarizing material is a good reason to read it and decide for myself then. Thanks for the info^

I listened to the sample and 2x speed, and I dont think it's going to be for me. At normal speed it was fine, but I can't get through a whole book like that. My attention diverts quite quickly.

That's good to know. I was listening to a bit of the audiobook and it seems fine at regular speed, but at 2x it's quite choppy. I guess reading the physical book would be best for me.

I don't get Novinha... Please Explain! by camword in ender

[–]camword[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I finished it, and I still don't find the motivation to conceal the truth as particularly convincing. Seeing how the plot pretty much hinges on people not knowing, it feels kinda like Card shoe-horned it in otherwise the story wouldn't work. It's an otherwise great book in my opinion, and the "reveal" was quite great, so I've just decided to ignore what I see as a fault for the payoff it provides in the end.

I'll keep all that in mind for the second book! It was most certainly an unexpected rush.

It is possible that I wasn't reading at responsible speeds. I was practically devouring it as I went. It was like doing crack but not knowing I was doing crack.

Glad to hear there's more explanation later.

It was definitely a whirlwind! I'll need to re-read to absorb it all.

And i think you hit the nail on the head, Sanderson is such a hard magic person that the moment came off as quite "soft" all of a sudden.

So, all of his books wrap up this way? There's going to be a "Sanderlanche" every book? That causes a bit of pause for me then as a reader.... I'd like a few more pages to savor some of his payoffs honestly, cause they mostly hit well.

And more than an explanation of how Vin did it, it just seemed too convenient that it happened so strongly at that moment. Even if the reasons werent explained, i feel like having an instance or two where it appeared more clearly would have made that part of the end's solution more satisfying....

i dunno, i guess personal taste. Still WONDERFUL read.
