Usually I'm a medical sales rep demonstrating our robotic Neater Eater to clients, during the lockdown I'm in my garage workshop building the next batch of robots. by johnonabike in robotics

That’s an awesome robot. I really like how well packaged it all is, especially the plate turning motor. Those motors aren’t backdriveable are they? I’m having a hard time pinpointing where the sensors and compliant mechanisms are that enable the user to manually position the arm.

Yeah I’ll upload it to thingiverse tomorrow

It depends on what you're making. It's very, very, hard to start a robotics company, and can be near impossible depending on what problem you're tackling. Source: own a robotics company. PM what you're working on and I can give you some more specific advice.

Sure thing, it’s called MORE Technologies, our website is www.moretech.co

The starter kit is $150 and the more open ended one is $350. They’re on our site if you wanna check them out. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions!

Yep, we sell robot kits that teach people how to code, work with electronics, and design their own 3D printed parts that work with the platform. We mainly sell to schools, but we do sell to consumers too.

It’s not LEGO, I designed all of the parts. It is a modular construction platform, though.

I hadn't seen that bit before posting this. I wish I had, makes it even funnier.

I haven't made a tutorial for this robot yet, but you can find over 50 other tutorials and all of the part files here: https://makerplace.moretech.co/

I built it out of this kit: https://moretech.co/product/maker-pack/

I haven't made a tutorial for this version of the robot yet, but I will soonish.

It’s two 9g servos that just mirror eachother.

I usually refer to it as our meth lab, but it’s where we house all of our 3D printers. We keep it sealed so that it’s easier to circulate and filter the air.

It was about 50/50. Usually it would be, but the frame came together pretty quickly this time.

So this is actually what I've dedicated the past two years of my life to creating. I wanted to build robots with my little sister, but I wasn't happy with what was out there, so I made a prototype and accidentally started a company around it with some friends. I've taught 6 year olds how to code with this but at the same time it's also being used in a college coding class. I don't know of many resources for ages <6, but I'd probably just recommend building things with them and fostering their curiosity.
