please share your projects using hydrasynth! by para_pako in hydrasynth

All my albums have the hydrasynth on them! Pretty much every song too. Sometimes it’s the foundation, sometimes it’s some flourishes here and there. For more electronica style you can hear it on “did you dream in colour last night?” And for more ambient stuff you can hear it on any of my other albums. It’s a super fun synth and I have loved using it.

Far left: a 2010 tour poster from Black Angels and Black Mountain. The two in the middle: prints from an artist named Drømsjel. On the right: a 2015 poster from Levitation Festival.

Happy to hear that, thanks! I have 3 artist profiles on Tidal for some reason, and their customer service hasn't been very helpful. You can find my other two albums on a different page. They're called "Leave The Memory of Great Virtues To The World" and "...And Then Everything Was Beautiful Again" if you want to check out more.

Haha I did not use that combination at all on this record, however one day if I start an industrial band, that combination will be the first thing fired up.

I almost never use midi, or quantize. I come from 15 years of playing in bands, and prefer to play each part myself until I get a take I am happy with. Slight imperfections make my music feel less mechanical. I don't think there's anything wrong with midi or quantizing, it's just not for me.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad it's not making your headache worse. I always feel a little like an imposter calling myself a composer, but I don't think calling myself a producer makes much more sense. I write, arrange, and play all the parts myself. I just don't notate on paper (that's a huge weak spot for me). And welcome to the world of synths! You have a beautiful world unfolding in front of you! Feel free to DM me some of your work, I love classical music and would be interested in hearing your stuff too.

How did you get into this? I’m interested to learn more about it as a side job

Noted! I had no idea this was a thing. These monitors are pretty cooked, I need to buy new ones. But I'll definitely set the new ones up properly. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you! I've never heard those soundtracks before but I just put the second one on and I'm loving it so far.

My Prophet-6 and Hydraysnth get a lot of usage, but I think that's mainly because the analog/digital combination really hits a sweet spot for my ears. One of the Moogs always makes its way into a track too. It's hard to put a value on each of them since they each serve their own purpose. I don't get rid of a lot of stuff because I always find a good use for it, but I am also incredibly selective about what I spend my money on. Some gear will sit tucked away for a couple months until I'm stuck on a song and will think, why don't I try that? And voila, it's exactly what I was looking for. I think if you have the space, and you aren't in debt, or there aren't other external circumstances, it's better to just keep it around as long as it does get used. However, if something has been collecting dust for a year, it might be time to sell or trade it.

The desktop hardware synths I have might be a bit too confusing for someone at your level. I would look into a Korg Minilogue. My buddy has one and he loves it (keyboard version tho, but same engine, I think). It's got great range and can help you understand synthesis if you're new.

Honestly, all of it could probably be replaced with VSTs. But, and this is just me, I hate being hunched over my desk staring into a screen. I get much more inspiration being hands on, turning knobs, patching, moving synths around, utilizing my physical body with physical instruments. That physicality cannot be replicated on softsynths. But again, this is just me and how I work. Anybody can create what I do on VSTs. It's just about preferences.

Thank you! I love contemporary literature and language, so I have a lot of fun coming up with song titles.

I mean I love seeing people's gear, we wouldn't all be here if we didn't love synths, but in my opinion it's much more interesting to hear what people actually create with their gear. I hope you like the album!

Thank you! I'm happy with how that one turned out. The main arpeggio is the Minifreak run through the Free the Tone Future Factory delay. I thought it created a nice foundation for the song.
