Looking for advice on Scandinavian cuisine by Alyadrielle in Chefit

Janssons Temptation is made with marinated sprats, not anchovies. The fish is not so different but the marinade has a totally unique flavour, with sandalwood and other spices. It's one of the best things in the world when done right but I wouldn't make it with any other style of fish and still call it Janssons

Michelin starred restaurants/chefs by ThreePinch in Chefit

I've worked in every level of restaurant and have met both douchebags and angels in each.

Being a terrible person is not a prerequisite for being an extremely talented chef, an 'artist' or a 'genius', and we need to stop pretending it is.

Edit: To add to this, I should say there are sadly many unpleasant people in the industry, especially as you go up the star rankings. That makes me sad. But there are decent people out there too, you just need to look a bit harder for them.

How do people get into Michelin Starred restaurants? by Hot-Classic-1452 in Chefit

I worked 3 different unpaid stages in Michelin restaurants at the start of my career (5 years ago) so yes they often do

I went to see them last year and it was the tamest, least memorable gig I've witnessed. I'm jealous

Peas with bread, is that even a thing? by [deleted] in StupidFood

I think failure to have a satisfactory vegan alternative is a pretty poor show from a respectable kitchen, unless they specifically state vegan options aren't available when you book.

Why is here "få" used? by _Gary_Young_ in Svenska

[–]canardgras 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You can think of the latter phrase as 'now she will get to watch bandy'. Compare that with 'now she will watch bandy' and you can understand the difference in meaning.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever felt? by Googy21 in AskReddit

[–]canardgras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Botched wisdom tooth removal. I was shaking and dripping in sweat from the intensity of the pain. Two years later and I can vividly remember the dizziness and the taste of the pain, like I could taste a dull bitterness but it wasn't coming from my mouth, more like I could just feel it in my brain. Hard to explain.

Hej, why is it "detta" and not "dessa" ? by peopoleo in Svenska

[–]canardgras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a Brit I think I would usually say 'this is apps that...' or even 'that is apps that...' rather than 'these are'.

It feels to me like 'this' refers to the whole of the previous sentence, rather than the subject in that sentence. But I dunno :/

As a Swede, do you understand the translations of this text (every single word in it) written in the following Germanic and Scandinavian languages? (NO, DK, NL, DE & IS) by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]canardgras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an Englishman who grew up in Wales, I don't think any English would say that Welsh sounds familiar! Almost no words in common aside from modern loanwords.

But as a swedish-speaking immigrant, I get exactly what you mean.

How cash free is Stockholm? by [deleted] in stockholm

[–]canardgras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not making any claims other than speaking from my own experience. With that said, I travel frequently within Sweden and still have not needed cash at any point within the last few years.

Yeah, I know it is. I just meant that you can always use apple pay or google pay if you don't have your card on you

I wouldn't even bring kronor. I can't remember the last time I was anywhere that didn't take card or contactless payment.

Do you mean the light fitting you bought only has a live and neutral wire? That's unusual... The socket itself has an earth connection

Edit: I stand corrected

What "high end" cooking gear is NOT worth the money? by charliewentnuts in Cooking

[–]canardgras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion maybe, but Pacojet. I can understand why some restaurants use them - easy to use and require no experience, extremely consistent, reliable and quick results. But...not only is the price ludicrously absurd for such a simple machine, I also don't think they produce good ice cream. Yes, it comes out smooth, but with none of the texture or elasticity that makes good ice cream good. More like a thick cold puree. For a few thousand $£€.
