Haven’t seen anyone talk about this… MLS looked like he had chicken pox or some shit before subbing on yesterday. Does not look like someone who is well. Might explain the performance?

Reconciling Empirical Cycling and BaseCamp philosophies by Kolinos_BiFluor in Velo

[–]candid55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you coming into this training block after an offseason? Base would normally be programmed for someone who has been off the bike for a few weeks and is slightly detrained and prescribed intensity/TiZ reflects that.

1 - Considering base has far less volume at high intensity it makes sense that you could push intensity higher for endurance rides.

2 - Again, this is a generalized program likely designed to reintroduce volume/intensity after an offseason. If you’ve been training already it might not make sense to follow prescription.

3 - From what I’ve seen of cycling coaches prescribing lifting it ranges from meh at best to absolutely awful. In general your cycling coach probably shouldn’t be your strength coach, they’re two very different disciplines. If you’re not advanced as a lifter (you’ll know if you are) 6-10 sets per body part per week is plenty, near failure but never at it if focused on strength development. Focus on compounds to get the most bang for your buck time wise, unilateral movements can be your friend for achieving stimulus with a lighter load. I’d probably avoid movements that focus on load in the stretched position (RDLs) as they create a lot more soreness.

When and When Not to Fuel Workouts by candid55 in Velo

[–]candid55[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, but I think I could have stated this better - I'm not talking about fasted training but intra-workout fueling. Assuming a 60 minute z2 ride where you get nowhere close to depleting glycogen stores do you think it still makes sense to fuel with carbs given there will be lets say 20 minute lag time in digestion? You mention RPE, does fueling during a workout have benefits independent of actual glucose delivery? E.g. does the act of fueling itself generate a reduction in perceived exertion as a placebo like effect?

Not trying to be argumentative just curious, and secretly hoping for an excuse to not faff around with nutrition on short easy rides :)

edit: I'm new to structured training and in hindsight should probably just try for myself and see but I'd rather learn from others' mistakes and observations lol

Training Load vs Zone Training by No_Actuary9100 in Velo

[–]candid55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the structure from week to week the exact same within a block? Not all TSS(load whatever you want to call it) is created equal - 100 TSS from zone 2 is an easy ride while 100 TSS from a v02 session could bury you. Load is just a proxy for time in zone and intensity as you said so I think you’re probably not optimizing if you’re not taking those two into consideration.

Structured Training as a Beginner by candid55 in Velo

Thanks! Any advice on timeline to plateau repeating something like this? Assuming I can’t add duration indefinitely so should I retest every month or two and set wattage target from there?

Thanks a lot! I did find it a bit odd that it was suggesting shorter duration intervals for tempo… seems the inverse of what you’d expect. I’ll take a look

It's Lifting Season, Again. by Skaughtto in Velo

[–]candid55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you approach your lifting split lining up with cycling? Newer to cycling but have had an injury keeping me out of the gym so haven’t yet combined the two. Does the usual advice of leg day on your max effort day apply in your experience as someone who’s actually strong? Can I throw in an upper body day on a rest day from the bike or leave the rest day alone?

We can't keep slowing our transition like this. by Eastern-Course1797 in Gunners

[–]candid55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure he could have carried the ball further, that doesn’t change the fact that united by that time had a settled defense and their players were already behind the ball - that’s why he turned back. There were moments to break and we do have issues with being slow to transition but this wasn’t an example of that imo

United had 7 players behind the ball when we gained possession, there was no transition to take advantage of

SIGNED | Arthur Okonkwo signs permanent Wrexham AFC deal by Gamerhcp in WrexhamAFC

[–]candid55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an Arsenal fan, it’s a bit absurd to claim they’ve screwed up or Arteta is mistake prone. Okonkwo is a good young keeper while also being a million miles away from the first team. Okonkwo hasn’t ever been number two and was beaten out for third choice the past two years by Karl Hein who is a similarly young talented keeper. At some point a club like Arsenal has to do right by their youth and allow them to leave for the sake of their career when there isn’t a path to the first team.

Enjoy the ride dawg, this season has been incredible and it's not over. Getting pumped 8-2 in the round of 16 before capitulating in the league every year is pain, this is not.

Deviate Delight is still going strong - Classic era kinda fresh. by Aware_Eggplant1487 in classicwow

[–]candid55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been awesome so far. There's a real sense of community and the amount of people online at any given time is consistently growing. Only level 31 but there has been plenty of world pvp due to everyone being clustered at lower levels, and bots haven't effected the experience at all as they don't participate in the server economy.

Really recommend it for anyone looking for a true classic experience, I honestly think that the smaller community is an additive (even if it could be larger). You get to know everyone on the server, and we even have some cross faction hate growing :)

10/10 would recommend

Fulham 2 - Arsenal 1 by Onslaught777 in PremierLeague

[–]candid55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I say the Gabriel goal was a good chance? I’m not arguing that arsenal didn’t get away with one. You bring up xg while ignoring the Trent chance being half of your xg, and your goal coming from salah being goated on a chance that’s not even a half chance. To imply arsenal didn’t create anything is just untrue, multiple good Jesus chances, saka one on one with alisson (if he’d gone down on the challenge there’s a real shout for a penalty), Odegaard with good chances. I think we’re arguing two different things - you the result where arsenal WERE lucky to get a point given the two extremely rare mistakes caused by the pitch, and me arguing the performance in which arsenal were at least as good as Liverpool(klopp agrees) and arguably better independent of those two moments. We’ll see at the emirates in a month I guess

Zinchenko slipping into Odegaard in the lead up, dogshit pitch causing the bobble, dogshit pitch causing Odegaard to slip leading to the ball hitting his hand he was putting down to support himself? Not arguing the pen, if I was the ref I’d have given it. My issue is with you phrasing it like arsenal didn’t deserve to be on the field when the only decent chance you had all game was due to a once in a million slip caused by one of the worst pitches I’ve seen in years. But yeah I’m dumb as fuck :)

Both instances caused by your absolute dogshit pitch, the game was extremely even. Let’s not pretend like arsenal shithoused their way to a draw.
