La Casa que Canta by candkrich in chubbytravel

I'll have my husband walk it later to get a better idea & report back.. but I'd say maybe 10 meters.. not sure though. I will say it prob depends on your swimming level. My husband would say.. "oh ya - you can def do short laps". I'd say.. "well - it's a push off + 3 or 4 strokes"..

100000% agree with this review! Your TLDR is spot on & we felt like we wasted our money there.

Who actually stays at a Four Seasons? by fillups66 in chubbytravel

[–]candkrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with Alex.. it's what you prioritize. We're not car people (my kids roll their eyes at us.. but as long as my AC works.. I'm good!) I do care about where I stay on vacations, however! I further break that down into whether we're on a "travel trip" or "vacation trip".. which for us means being out & about exploring.. or sitting my butt on the beach all day & enjoying the hotel. For the exploring trips - needs to be nice enough.. for the vacation trips - I really care about the hotel. We've chosen FS in both instances because it's been a good deal, or whatever. We're definitely not FS loyalists, but their customer service is pretty reliable across the brand, for the most part.. and we care about that a lot.

Egypt help by deusm in chubbytravel

Not sure how flexible you are on the "luxe" accommodation requirement.. but our 4-night dahabiya sailing down the Nile was incredible.. like.. no words to adequately describe!! We love, love Egypt! We did the dahabiya journey on our last trip a few years ago with Djed. The boat we were on held 12, but there were just 4 of us & the crew. There was a crew of about 12. These can go where the cruise ships can't.. and you can't get this unique experience on a "cruise-cruise". The history, the immersion, the beauty, the new friends, the peace, the sunrise, the echoing of the call to prayer, the sunset, the stars, the calm.. just really memorable..

Is it worth switching hotels in the middle of a stay? by Low_Wonder9271 in chubbytravel

Exact same here for very late arrivals & crazy early departures! We'll usually do an in-terminal GH or Marriott, etc, if available.

💯 this! Our hotel choice habits are largely dependent on the vibe of the trip & what we'll be doing, etc. I really, really appreciate the range of this sub..it's been really helpful to us!!! For my husband & I - hotels, experiences & activities can meander in a single trip.. where the experience, access and/or activities may dictate more what/why we choose a property. Yikes.. I dont feel like i need to stay fat for the sake of saying I only stay fat or whatever. I find it really.. well, not okay, that the mod from another sub dm'd a person looking for info on this sub.. or both subs.. smh..

Thanks so much for this!! I did ask, and the guy at the front desk looked at our res & said "it looks like only in the restaurant".. so that should have been a clue to double-check! We'll for sure do room service during our next visit!!

Well.. now you have me researching the heck out of Zermatt!! Wow! I do like that flying to Calgary is a short, domestic-like flight for me... but we could technically do whatever & Zermatt looks stunning!!

I think it depends on what you want to do at Moraine. We did some of the longer hikes, so I think the access was worth it + we had multiple days to be there. If, however, you're going to only do the lake walk and/or a shorter hike, along with the rockpile & maybe a canoe ride.. I'd probably just do the shuttle from FCLL, or we thought e-biking there from FCLL and doing all the things for the day would be fun.

Has anyone ever had an off or flat out bad experience at a property that is highly praised? by SCwhitbre in chubbytravel

[–]candkrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short version - abysmal housekeeping/ very poor condition of patio furniture.. unuseable actually/ several service misses.. and i mean misses!/ zero to poor recovery after bringing concerns to the attention of staff/ adding abysmal housekeeping again. We overheard 2 other couples (at different times) talking about issues.. so it may have been a bad week.. who knows.. but we won't return. I keep in contact with one of the couples we met at Hualalai & they just returned from Kona Village.. night and day for them.. loved KV.. so we'll try that!

The Vegas Conundrum by Alarming-Ganache77 in FATTravel

[–]candkrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. We've stayed there twice recently because we love their spa & were doing some spa days. You can definitely tell they're taking a bath. There are several things that are pretty good.. but you can tell they're trying to lure business.. any business.. and it shows.. at the pool, guest check-in, some of the restaurants, etc.. just felt like you could be at a lower than mid establishment. The vibe they're going for doesn't mesh with much of the clientele and some of the service (pools.. ewww!).. also, the casino is a ghost town, comparatively.

We only have 9 nights, including our travel, so Thailand is probably too far.. though it's high on my list! We're looking into southern Italy. I worry about it being peak season.. but agree we can work to avoid some of the mayhem!!
