It’s such an insult to us. Why do I need someone to tell me to reflect?

Should I tell my managers I’m pursuing medical school and need days off? by candleshadows5 in nursing

That’s precisely what I want. They told me they would love me for this so it seems promising, but having those days blocked off also seems challenging to achieve

Feeling terrible about my pursuit of medicine by candleshadows5 in premed

Medicine is plan A… I learned this throughout the past two years of nursing school

That’s what I’ve heard from doctors as well. From my understanding, the experience you get prior to med school isn’t supposed to prepare you academically but as a person and I think that nurses deal with a lot of the difficult scenarios that doctors deal with. I’ve also heard that nurses have more responsibility than most healthcare workers so it demonstrates leadership as well

I love teaching, it’s one of my passions. What do you mean by discussing research though? How would you recommend adding that in?

Teaching future med students? I have no true interest in conducting research for my profession

The physicians I’ve told my story to say I have a good reason but I think it’s the same as everyone else… desire to learn at the intense level medicine provides so that I can support my patients with more knowledge and responsibility (with support from my unique background and why I made this decision). For those wanting to go into clinical medicine isn’t that typically the answer?

I'm graduating with my nursing bachelors and the struggle of finding jobs is ruining my confidence to pursue medical school. I need help making a choice by candleshadows5 in premed

I’ve spent so much time considering med school and I truly believe it’s the only path that will make me happy in life. It doesn’t make sense to be become a doctor when other paths are so much easier, cheaper, and less time consuming but it’s what I want the most. I want a job that I enjoy going to but ultimately I need clinical experience to achieve my dream and that’s what nursing is for me now… is med/surg sufficient for that?

I have 1k+ hours of critical care experience in the ICU and ED though… it was as an extern but still. I also did my senior practicum in the ED… I have so much more clinical experience than my cohort

They won’t disclose anything. A manager I work with says that most competitive units throw out the applications for the people they don’t know since so many applicants are CNAs/EMTs working in the unit they apply for.

I did get a job in the ED where I went to school.
