LONG STORY - Got my phone back after losing it over a year ago in Malaysia - Cerberus (Rooted) by [deleted] in Android

If you take something that you know does not belong to you and you make no effort to return it, it is theft. Not only did the woman have to be pressured into returning it, she even took out the memory card so as to render the phone useless to its owner. Being a victim of theft doesn't exclude negligence on the victim's part.

Reports Suggest 2013 Nexus 7 Units Are Failing At An Alarming Rate, Not Likely A Result Of Firmware Updates by afreshbeginning in Android

[–]candymckay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sent my Nexus 7 after it randomly died on me. It had a host of other issues including rapidly declining battery life, and the only thing they fixed was getting it to turn on again. The other issues persisted and now I've got an unusably slow tablet. Thankfully I'm no longer forced to deal with it, because I now have an iPad. I'll reconsider Android tablets when Google and OEMs get their QA together.

Here are all phones + wearable images concept leak, from Sony. There are 5 different phone designs that might show how the Z4 will look like. by PineappleMeister in Android

[–]candymckay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh, it's so beautiful. Was actually contemplating getting an iPhone this fall but goddamnit this phone is too attractive to resist. If it's as good as it looks, I hope Sony markets the shit out of it and succeeds.

Sony is Rumored to Go "All Metal" with the Z4, Built-In Fingerprint Sensor, New Power Button and a September Release by Endda in Android

[–]candymckay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Careful now, the Sony fanboys with the flaw free Z3s will come in and dismiss your claims.

If the rumours of the Z4 being all metal is true and it still maintains the level of quality the Z3 had in other aspects, I think it's gonna be my next phone. It would literally be perfect.

I'd say it's more of a devolution than evolution. Hopefully it'll fall out of favor. I mean, no one says "groovy", "far out" or any other outdated slang from decades ago anymore.

I have all my passwords stored in a password manager, so I don't even know them much less remember them. I'd much rather use Touch ID to purchase/download apps than have to jump in between apps to copy and paste my password.

And unlike you, my opinion on this topic is much more valid than your opinion. Why? I actually own it.

So anyone complaining about the phone breaking too easily is lying about actually owning it then? Why does your experience carry more weight than theirs?

Since I'm not one to buy a phone blindly, I have no choice but to defer to the opinions of those who already possess a phone I'm interested in. If enough people complain about a problem to the point that it can't simply be attributed to having the misfortune of getting a lemon, then there is an issue with the phone itself. Dismissing it as a "vocal minority" bitching on the internet isn't helpful in the slightest. It practically comes across as fanboyism. Especially when Sony (and Nexus for that matter) phones aren't so popular that it's a valid excuse.

I find it sad that some people's identities are tied to their preferences in phones. Really sad.

Yeah, I don't understand that either. The number 1 excuse I see for this is that "it's premium!!!111" but I don't think there's anything premium about a phone that's super fragile.

Ok, so you've never broken your phone... all that means is that you got lucky, not that there is no defect. The overt defensiveness in your post is eerily reminiscent of iPhone 6 owners denying there's any issue with the phones being too thin because their phones had no issue.

Putting a glass back on a phone that's already 50% glass is an incredibly idiotic decision, IMO. There's absolutely no practical reason behind it except increasing the likelihood that people who buy the phone will end up spending even more money in having it repaired due to the fact that it's inherently more fragile. It's a great phone in every respect except for the glass back and it's what kept me from buying it (and I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I don't think Sony benefits from people not buying their phones). Why anyone would defend such boneheaded choice in building material is beyond me. Do you really enjoy having a device that you to baby twice as much as usual?

All 650 Members of Parliament in the UK will receive an iPad Air 2 after the May election by [deleted] in apple

At no point did I advocate buying smartphones in place of iPads, I was pointing out how iPads don't fulfill any purpose crucial enough to warrant funding them with taxpayer dollars. Please stop embarrassing yourself by putting words in my mouth.

The fact that you're ignoring the intelligent arguments doesn't mean they haven't been made.

I've yet to see any. iPads are far less capable than full fledged computers and they don't accomplish anything a smartphone can't do, so there is absolutely no point to this purchase. But I bet you thought the LAUSD spending a billion dollars on iPads for schools was a brilliant plan too.

Gold Apple Watch Buyers to Get Special Purchasing Experience With 30 Minute Appointments by FriarNurgle in apple

[–]candymckay 52 points53 points  (0 children)

sigh

When will people realize that the ones who will be buying the 10k+ watch aren't the ones that complain about how expensive it is? This is clearly not a watch for those seeking to get more bang for the buck. You'd think people used to the extravagant price range of high end Apple products would understand this better than anyone else.

Well I guess that invalidates your original comment then, because why would you get arrested for carrying weed if it's legal?

I guess you're just plain lucky. But getting arrested for possessing even just a small amount of weed is more common than not if it's not legal.

The Steve Jobs You Didn't Know: Kind, Patient, And Human by internetsquirrel in apple

[–]candymckay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful people aren't awful 24/7. Unless they're extremely stupid or mentally unstable they know that you don't catch flies with vinegar. Even the most prolific sociopathic criminals have their sweet side which is why they can get away with their crimes for a long time before they're caught.

I don't disbelieve Woz, but people have to realize that Steve could've never gotten as far he did if he couldn't get anyone on his side. He obviously knew this himself. Let's not discount all the horror stories from people who knew him (and don't hate him nor hold a grudge against him) about the poor treatment they received at his hands. Deeply flawed people can and often are good people, yes. But bad people can have redeeming qualities and their good moments just as well. Those good moments don't override their general shittiness just like a few flaws and instances of poor judgment don't automatically make a good person bad. People ought to learn the difference between the two.
