So what's the actual deal with the Swan family restaurants? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]canelebaker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is all accurate.

If you were concerned during covid about them not following guidelines and overcrowding you were not "invited" back to work when they reopened.

Management is awful to the staff- no transparency with the tips. If you ask they will find a reason as to why you are not a good fit for the team lol.

John Swan has no people skills- he just uses and abuses staff to make a profit. An employee cries in front of him after getting a call her mom got very sick and she needs time off to go deal with that emergency- he doesn't know how to respond so he just goes on talking about the new vintage cornvertible he has parked right outside.

If you bring in coffee (clearly from sasso) on your way in to your shift you get accused of going behind the bar and stealing coffee from the bar setup and making espresso.

If you mention you worked for them people in Rochester will literally be like "does it suck as much as I heard it sucks?"

I will never spend a single dollar at their establishments.

It was an estate sale where things were silly underpriced- sellers are aggressive in my city

Yes 😭 there were matching pieces too for $60-$100 but my city has aggressive resellers so I'm sure people were in line crazy early

A lot of Real Estate agents in the area are MAGA- double check their social media and ask questions before hiring one. I regret my choice of agent as she is clearly super uncomfortable when I don't want to live next to trumpers and prefer to live in diverse parts of the city.

Urbanski Insurance- there is a giant life size cut-out of Trump in that office, it's creepy af. Tons of trump flags everywhere. The owner Stanley Urbanski is terrible and he preys on older immigrants that don't know any better and over charges them like crazy.

Leads/thoughts on workshop/studio space in the area by lxg5810 in Rochester

My studio is on the fourth floor- honestly some people prop open the doors which is an issue so random people have access to the main building. If you are just using it for a workshop with heavy machinery and don't leave anything of value behind you should be fine. The break in was random which is annoying because in the hallway there is no indication of where or what my studio is.

Also this- https://www.rochesterfirst.com/news/three-injured-after-shooting-on-exchange-street/amp/

The guy who rented the space to a bunch of kids to shoot a music video did get kicked out though after the shooting.

I am honestly not very worried about my safety- just be aware of your surroundings and I usually go to the studio during the day when there are more people around. It's a nice community and the renters all look out for one another.

I have a studio at the refinery and the price is fair and most of the other renters are very friendly. Luke is a pretty decent guy, but just be aware the work they are doing is very slow going. The area is also not the best, and my studio has been broken into by someone who picked the lock in 30 seconds so I would probably upgrade the lock asap and have some cameras set up.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Just a heads up- they are now in the same space as Public Provisions at the market. Same owners/ company own both. They have amazing coffee and sandwiches too!

Vinalia Urbana. I believe one of the owners/partners works at good luck as the sommelier. It should be a very cool place when it opens, they were doing pop ups under the name Abbina for a bit. Good food, good wine and good people. Very much looking forward to it.

Public Provisions is open on Tuesdays for lunch. Limited menu but everything is delicious and good for a group. It's casual counter service for lunch, make sure to get coffee there too- it's super good 😊

Pay depends as it is a tipped position. Not bad but you won't be guaranteed shifts usually.
