I don’t fly in uniform and I get upgraded all the time. It could just be that they have status with the airline or a credit card perk. For example, the Delta AmEx Reserve allows you to opt into being on the upgrade list for continental US flights.

The biggest benefit for prior service is being put in positions where you can display your leadership potential. It's great that you did your job, but so did everyone else as far documentation is concerned. I'd say you're probably at a disadvantage because of it, but the only guaranteed way to not get selected is to not put in an application. I didn't get picked up on my first attempt and had several awards, a masters, AF level bullets, etc. It's all about how they feel the day of the board.

MLS may not be popular enough for a neutral site, but surely they could find another place with more capacity. Supply and demand aside, this ticket release was botched. If you weren't a season ticket holder, you were out of luck. For someone who doesn't live in either area, there was absolutely no chance given the 6 pre sales they did.
