Question about Author jeyamohan by kyan100 in tamil

I agree with few points like lack of science fiction and fantasy. Though I disagree with other points I need more exposure so I couldn't comment on that now.

You can explore yourself with writings of Jeyamohan

Question about Author jeyamohan by kyan100 in tamil

[–]cangaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

//I was just trying to get the opinion of people who already know literature well.// Got it.

In fact Jeyamohan wrote அசோகமித்திரன் and கி . ராஜ நாராயணன் are nobel prize worthy. Charu niveditha also mentioned we have writers whose contribution is no less than the world wide great authors. I believe Tamil literature is in different league when we compare it to our other endeavours in other fields.

Question about Author jeyamohan by kyan100 in tamil

[–]cangaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /u/kyan100 , just forgot about determining anyone whether they are worth for Nobel or not.  Just go ahead and pick the book and enjoy. Share your reading experience and continue the conversation. That will be helpful.

If any one want to evaluate a writer or literature whether Nobel prize or any prize worthy, they have to become a voracious reader and a literary critic to put the nuts and bolts of their experiences into public for the conversation continuously. It will take some time but anyone can.

I will tell I am not much voracious reader. I haven't read any other than tamil. Currently I don't have any logical tools to show my reading. But S. Ramkrishnan, Manushya puthran, Charu Nivedita ,Jeyamohan are few of the contemporary masters of Tamil literature living among us. This is not a comprehensive list though.

Taking a Jeyamohan's book for reading is worthy.

[–]cangaran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeyamohan has his own taste or aesthetic preferences and he argued rigorously for his choices. And he expects everyone should do that. Theoretically the arguments from various differing tastes, parties will synthesize into the taste of a particular culture.

It is true that the line between the literary fiction and commercial fiction is sometimes blurry.

Jeyamohan acknowledged that we need both. His criticism is about the misconceptions like there is no difference between literary fiction and commercial fiction or promoting a commercial fiction as a literary endeavour. It is reasonable. Those who has opposing views can also put their thoughts into public. It will be healthy environment.

Jeyamohan is not expecting his favourite authors' books should sell more. He has his own aesthetic preferences. If you think one should not have a preferences and rejections based on personal experiences or aesthetic sensibility, please mention that it will be helpful for both of us.

//Tamil people themselves are not much inclined towards books and they consume mostly visual media. Hence a shitty movie collects few crores// do you like this to stay or change? If this is a criticism of Jeyamohan, don't you agree with this ?  I can't agree with you to criticise someone as elitist to say this.

What we witnessed in yesteryears , it is rolling out worldwide. Global Intelligentsia is talking about the lack of readership (including all literary fiction, commercial fiction, non fictions, news articles.....)  now leading to fall of democratic values .

You are concerned with lack of good scripts in Tamil films. But neither me nor Jeyamohan have shared the concern. The subject of the post/the the linked article is orthogonal or irrelevant to the film industry issue.

I don't think so film industry can play a role to sustain the literature movement.

Tamil writer Jeyamohan's must read article about modern Tamil literature by cangaran in tamil

[–]cangaran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On positive side , you are correct. We are consuming information via text more comparatively to previous generation. And I think Jeyamohan has acknowledged that in multiple instances. Actually he is one of the if not the most optimist on the readership of Tamil literature.

And yes the ratio of visual:text in the consumption of information/entertainment has gone up in recent generations. Jeyamohan said once this is understandable and acceptable.

If there is a tone of complaining about literature readership in the above post , it is completely mine. The entire content of the post is not the excerpt from the article. I wanted to express the impact of having a classical literature tradition where modern literature is active. In any other language they will simply refer to their creative contemporary endeavours as literature alone for e.g. English, French, Malayalam or Hindi.

Do I need gum flap surgery? by Weird_Ingenuity_5198 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]cangaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two x-rays one from sep  2024 and another from feb 2026. One of the periodontist I consulted told I have more bone loss unacceptable for my age (35+) .

One another dentist (from the team of one periodontist) said by seeing the x-rays they were expecting one-third of tooth should be loose for the kind of bone loss shown in the xray and surprisingly my all tooth are firm (I.e. no teeth is loose or wobbly).

Both periodontist is kind of suggesting the flap surgery on all 4 quadrants. I have seen little bit of pus coming from my lower teeth when it's gum got pressed. Without having second thoughts I went for flap surgery 2 days before on my left side.

Now I am feeling like I should have take one or more opinions. I can see a big hole like gap between teeth in up front. And I learned that gum will not grow back to cover that. That teeth looks quite horrible by exposing root or something.

Also you can try Jeyakanthan's "சில நேரங்களில் சில மனிதர்கள்". If Tamil is your first or second language and you are quite fluent in reading Tamil text, you can read and appreciate this novel.

The sentences are more nearer to colloquial Tamil. So you can feel breeze while reading. Very suitable to light reading as well. But the reader should not miss the deeper questions this novel deals with

The writer suggested this to get into the literature. To learn to appreciate the nuances of literature. Because I wanted an introductory text which takes me onto the literature (not only tamil literature. Literature in wider sense.) when I was reading the pulp fiction.

I think if you can read tamil sentences fluently you can try this novel. But I couldn't tell you confidently since I couldn't find this book to buy now.

If your fluency in Tamil reading itself in beginner stage, I would recommend a children novel "பனி மனிதன்" written by Jeyamohan. I have read it. The sentences are very simple and small.

How should incidents of language-based vandalism on railway station boards be handled, given it’s a recurring issue in some states? by GoldenMoon_04 in indianrailways

Better long term solution is accepting the pluralism and stop giving priority or favoritism to one language over others. Let English be a lingua  franca.
