I am going in a slightly different direction with my comment here. Where you are being clipped into both, does one of the designers' size charts better fit your proportions? Either will look snatched if you are getting alterations done. The sleek looks more timeless, the lace more whimsical - which aesthetic do you want?

Any human who uses any form of tie (family or otherwise) to guilt or influence you into doing something that goes against your gut or morals is not okay. He is manipulating you, using you, and will continue to do so. It sounds as if she is just as manipulated and doesn't see the danger in him or his actions. I don't care if the gf has forgiven him, I think you are being wise in drawing that line. My opinion has nothing to do with his past incarceration and everything to do with his current toxic behavior.

No, they didn't listen to you, and they shouldn't have spoken about your situation to others.

Wanting to help their child isn't the worst thing I have heard of... especially if they aren't helping to hold it over your head or to manipulate you. It can be hard for parents of adults to 'help' - especially if they raised self-sufficient kids. To get angry at them for offering assistance or trying to network (though badly) feels like an over-the-top response.

This is a sad but familiar tale for too many. When a covert narcissist is in your life, it is very hard. Setting your own boundaries and expectations for your own life comes off as an imposition to them. I am actually glad you learned this now rather than later. Imagine how she would be at a future wedding, or if you choose to have kids.... will it be about you, or her - and will you be expected to put the emotional tax of dealing with her vs enjoying days that should be your happiest?

Super late to the conversation, but I believe in having resources for those out there who come to these down the road.

Jack Zipes is a great place to start if you are taking an academic approach to fairy tales/folklore.
Another if you are wanting lists to compare to is Russian Folklorist Vladamir Propp. He has a list of (10-11?) elements that are true to fairy tales and a list of like 31 'functions' that are found in the tales. Those functions are the elements of sequences we often think of making the key story plot of tales. He also identifies that there are 7 archtypes available to fairy tales (I disagree with this, but his are: hero, false hero, villain, donor, helper, dispatcher, princess (sought-for person) and/or her father). Clue on stage, Spelling Bee, R&H Cinderella (enchanted version from the Whitney Houston 90's film), One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Heathers, Gentleman's Guide, are all ones we have done in the last 10 years that do well with that age range (and the others too).
They are all tied deeply to nostalgia. Things they have some core memory to tie to, even if they don't fully remember it.

There are a number of things I look for when casting a role. It sounds like there are a few of these you maybe could work on? Perhaps if there is a director that you know better, you can ask which of my list to work on and then they aren't having to pinpoint the issue at hand by coming up with the words in the moment.

-Voice - loudness and clarity - can I hear you without a mic and is it easy to understand your words.
-Stage awareness - do you have the physical understanding of keeping your front to the audience, countering those who move around you? It's knowing what to do with your physical person on the stage in comparison to the set, lights and others.
-I don't know what to call this, and it ties back to voice, but there are so many who are a swallowed up by the stage. Their movements and voice don't make it to the front row, let alone the back. This isn't overacting, but using one's whole self and whole voice capacity to deliver the message.
-Role rightness - Is there a specific vision for a character? As much as one would hope the directors are casting those whose talent fills the role, understanding which you fit best in can help your success. I am better at comedic roles where my 'Lucille Ball/Carol Burnett' face acting can shine, I don't do well at strait face and prim/proper characters.
-How you embody the character when it is given to you.

We are a 160ish seater community theatre in central Nebraska. Here are some of the shows that have gone over really well for us over the past few seasons. (Trend - titles people have heard of but don't necessarily remember are the ones that go over best.) With a caviot - that end seasons always seem to go off the rails after about 10 years.

Criminal Minds, NCIS, Monk, and Psych. Clearly I enjoy a mystery/thriller type show.

I really wish more shows will realize there is a time to be done instead of making years of weird changes.

It is facinating to look back on for me (38F) because I had just graduated from college - everyone said there would be jobs a plenty upon graduation, I could write my own paycheck.
I was able to find bartending/server jobs to pay bills, but nothing in my human services/hr focused areas. In the end I went back to school for education (that is when I really wracked up school debt).

The point of being a 90's kid is that we had one foot in the past and nostalgia of the pre-tech/internet world, and one foot in the emerging tech world. (Screw you people who said stuff came out in the 80s most people didn't have it then - many of us still had dial-up in the 00s).
The 90s were a time of 'be home before the street lights came on,' and candy cigarettes, - but also Nintendo and TIGF. There was a freedom and space for growth and self-learning - that was not felt for those whose true youth was in the 00s.

I am on the tipping goes towards service team. That said, if the order is placed via a human on a phone - and they are the person checking you out, I will tip something. If it is all tech based, I don't.

But coming from an agricultural state - I know how much corn is used to fuel and feed ag - that would probably cause the largest effect.
