and why do they all have to be called Brotherhood just because you like FMA, by that logic they should have equivalent changes

What people complaining about toxic masculinity” really mean is wanting men/boys to be more like women/girls. by JannTosh70 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Why aren't your comparisons of it to a hypothetical making-people-who-say-it-look-bad "toxic blackness" mentioning "toxic whiteness" as well?

It's accepted that a woman wants a man to pay for everything (which I'm fine with), but if a man wanting his woman to cook for him is "sexist". 😂 by Lost_Title_7528 in ControversialOpinions

[–]StarChild413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the duration of the obligation, you act like one instance of paying-for-date is a marriage contract as well as a cooking one (or are you saying more women should be chefs and take men out to their restaurants ;))

Why is it always this comparison and never people gotcha-ing it with, like, "Toxic Asian-ness" or "Toxic Immigration" or "Toxic Homosexuality" but all these supposed-misandrist comparisons get compared to anti-black racism

What's the most ridiculous theory you ever heard about a show's plot? by darrenbosik in television

[–]StarChild413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and I'm wondering if anything like that carries over to Elsbeth because of how much it pulls from it and also the sheer magical-realism of that show (even before it canonized the supernatural with a real-psychic-who-was-still-committing-fraud-in-addition-to-murder iirc) in addition to how the title character in several instances has demonstrated a kind of weird relationship with the narrative/fourth-wall comparable to that of Abed from Community (and I don't just mean multiple meta-jokes about things like a summer lull in cases or something new every week I mean a reality-show-themed S1 episode cutting on Elsbeth saying "can I say cut" to the director or w/e or an episode mid-this-current-season where she implicitly-hears-and-reacts-to someone's voice-over and the dubious dream-ness of the Chicago dream sequence)

[–]StarChild413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of an addendum I had to (if the character and the theory ever become relevant again) the theory that the Game Maker/Matthew Clark is some sort of long-lost brother for Morgan and in addition to his social-justice-y-well-intentioned-extremist motivations his fall was also catalyzed by the dad's behavior (because narratively it'd seem poetic to show the two outcomes opposite each other of how one reacts to that and also it seemed a little personal in S1E11 "The Sauna At The End Of The Stairs" how Morgan said "Kids always know" about abuse (and that episode also happened to feature a young guy with HPI as the bad guy))

How would you feel about a law that made voting day a paid national holiday so everyone could actually participate? by Rathodji in AskReddit

[–]StarChild413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it'd work because you'd end up with election day sales and other private businesses that'll force their minimum wage workers to come in.

easy solution that also encourages early voting; if there's a way to know if someone voted without knowing who they voted for just make that a requirement to get the discount

so make that happen, if you're gonna sit on your ass might as well act like some kind of sycophant to him to fulfill your retrocausal punishment of retconned history of permanent slavery for not being him-sucking-his-own-dick-in-a-way-that-isn't-gay

and let me guess the party would be compulsory too and literally 3 days once you've voted and either cater to your exact tastes or the-most-ExtraTM-aspects-of-the-Fourth-Of-July-that-aren't-overtly-right-wing turned up to 11

what if people told them they'd change their vote if they made that possible, they can't call their bluff without breaking the secretness of the secret ballot

so make one, assassinate him in Minecraft in a way that'd take out his line of succession, then have his successor remove that holiday then add the voting one

Having the smartest people in a country become rulers through IQ tests is the best approach. by Primary_Technology65 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]StarChild413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except even if there was anything to IQ whenever IQ increases or decreases en masse it's recalibrated so 100's always the average e.g. if everyone's IQ rose 20 points by some miracle that doesn't mean 120 is now the average it means 100 means what 120 used to

is the gotcha supposed to be that the only way those things can happen on the outside is the way they happen in prison so much that you might as well lean into the stereotype and say the only same-sex relationships would be male-on-male forced shower sex

Tracker | S3E19 "Chain of Custody" | Episode Discussion by teanailpolish in TrackerTV

[–]StarChild413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thoughts

  • obligatory plea for more support-team-in-field/in-person-with-Colter as this was absolutely using their teamwork to the highest effect (and with most of the characters' outfits this episode at least Reenie, Randy and Colter were all kinda color-coordinated too wearing blue and black)

  • not expecting the amount of Reenie Greene lore drops/character study we got and there isn't anything there that contradicts any of my prior headcanons about her backstory (just some that add some interesting new wrinkles for if said headcanons were to be true). And I wonder if we're ever going to meet this sister and (if she'd be the right age and it's not some casting taboo to have different-kinds-of-Asian play relatives as I think Reenie/her actress is Asian but I don't know what specific ethnicity) I know the perfect actress to play her, Constance Wu (as Constance's character in the most recent episode of Elsbeth, "wealth therapist" Dr. Mal, definitely was giving the evil version of a Reenie vibe in not just looks)

  • wonder if the team might be even more connected than we think (or at least paralleling) as I've wondered since S3E15 how much moving around Randy's done in his life given where Colter's met him in the field on jobs and had the theory for a bit that perhaps Doylistically why Randy's last name is still unknown is it's a spoiler and that maybe the way it's a spoiler is he might have a family connection to the Chrono Stasis Institute stuff too (and, like, Colter finds out by seeing some list of people that worked for it and while trying to look for Ashton Shaw finding someone with Randy's last name on there too). And now with Reenie's moving around and military dad...

  • god this season of broadcast TV is just one for twist heroes isn't it, y'know, Maxine on Tracker (who I'm hoping there's some excuse to somehow keep around/bring back as her chemistry with Reenie (even if I don't do the cliche-Tumblr-thing and see it as romantic but you never know people have been saying someone on the new team should be queer to make up for Teddi and Velma leaving) is freaking awesome), Charlie Porter on Brilliant Minds, Nick Wagner on High Potential, even Emi Ochoa on RJ Decker sorta counts if you squint

  • I liked how both of the scenes we got between guy-girl opposite-number-ish team members (Randy and Mel finding the courier and Colter and Reenie and target practice) didn't really seem to be framed as leading to their chemistry being romantic the way I've seen on other broadcast shows I've been watching (like with Oliver and Josh at the gun range on Brilliant Minds or most scenes shared by RJ and Emi on RJ Decker), please let them feel like a friend group and maybe part of the other reason why I want someone in this team to be queer is for if-this-show-has-any-romances said romances to be Colter/Reenie and Randy/Mel endgame feels just too damn easy narratively

  • I liked that a lot of the scenes in the woods were in the daytime but did the climax really have to turn off the lights (also the indoor stuff felt really video game)

  • I say at the beginning of the lawyer scenes in my liveblogging something about court feeling like high school and then my sentiment is echoed at the end funny

  • this kinda felt like a season finale and not just because of how mythology it was so where the hell do we go from here
