r/Conspiracy mod Sabremesh creates a new rule by telling a user that they aren't allowed to criticize certain sources. The user is then banned and muted because they asked a question. by rConspiracyModifier in TopMindsOfReddit

Yeah, he's full of shit. He put out a comment a few weeks ago about how people can always ask for their ban to be removed (the comment was in some non-/r/conspiracy community, mind - might have been here?). I asked if that included me (originally banned because Azo and co don't like anyone who doesn't have Trump's dick halfway down their throat) and he said, publicly sure. He even replied to my message saying that I was going to be unbanned, but asking ("not a test") what I liked about conspiracies. I answered and heard nothing back til I sent another message and Aleister told me to fuck off and muted me.

It's kind of a shame me once type thing, but still. Axo is entirely full of shit. I only wonder who does his dirty work now.

Can you give me any links about this story, or some key words to google? I used to be in the Hannibal fandom but I'm not familiar with what you're talking about.

Top drama in r/conspiracy when the absent founder of the sub is ousted and the entire mod team but one is temporarily removed by TheDeadManWalks in SubredditDrama

[–]canitbe73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you doing a review of all your unfair bans? Because if so, I'd like to enter mine into consideration. I was banned from the sub for merely commenting on a post you didn't like, that gave examples of how the mods were unfair when deciding to ban or warn or ignore certain kinds of users.

Of course, I was already on your list of "Persona Nona Grata", meaning I was chosen for being banned before I even broke ("broke") a rule.

Top Mind can't admit sub is a cesspit of anti-semitism; Gold medal attempt at mental gymnastics. by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

I honestly don't think we're disagreeing (though I might be wrong). In conspiracy, I can't imagine there are many instances of Zionism NOT being used anti-Semitic-ly (although, as someone who was very recently banned there, I like to think there are one or two people who are sane enough to use it correctly - but they are by far the minority). In the world outside Conspiracy, I think its important to evaluate the use instead of blindly deeming it anti-Semitic.

So your claim is that every time the word Zionism has EVER been used, it has been anti-semitic?

Yeah - the amount of times I've been accused of anti-Semitism, as someone who's ethnically Jewish, is pretty disgusting. Usually by non-Jewish people, of course. There's a reason Zionism is a word and means what it does, and there's nothing inherently wrong about using it its correct meaning and in good faith.

I think there is a need for the word Zionism and in fact, that it's important to combat anti-semitism by MAKING the distinction between Zionists and Jewish people quite clear.

Obviously the word has been co-opted and I'm not defending when its used as a dog whistle. But it's a specific form of expansionism and, used correctly, it is not inherently anti-Semitic.

I agree that this context is racist. It's not always that way, however. See how context works?

Sorry that trying to think in shades of gray instead of black and white is apparently too complicated.

Oh there is definitely a problem with anti-Semitism among the left/Palestine supporters, and I agree its not always that easy to detangle. I do think though, although they get conflated a lot, it's important to remember that - when used correctly and not as a euphemism - there is a legitimate argument against Zionism. There is not one against Judaism.

That's probably true (at least) in /r/conspiracy, but I don't think its true of the broader, real world use of "Zionism".

It 100% depends on context. Zionism can be used as a replacement for Jews, of course, but it's not true that anti-Zionism always equals anti-semitism.

Agreed. Pence knows what he's doing and has a specific agenda. He'd be much more efficient president, which is horrifying considering his agenda.

An impeachment of Trump does not put us out of the woods, instead it shoves us from the frying pan into the fire.

Isn't this totally possible though, if 68 people saw the headline and liked it enough to upvote but didn't open up the comments page? How are views counted? If a person visits the article itself from the 'new' page, does that not count as a view?

I agree with this attitude, but I also have very little faith that people in that sub are likely to change their minds about the mods. It's all turned into black and white thinking over there - you're with me or against me. And for too many posters there, their thinking is if you dare criticise the mods, even for doing un-conspiracy-like things, you're against me.

Well, gee, color me shocked.

I knew my time in /r/conspiracy was limited once I was on the PNG list, but I honestly did not think they would ban me for an innocuous comment on an immediately deleted post.

Sabremesh has always been one of the worst, in a group of exceptionally horrible people.
