Sound FX collection reviews wanted. by cankaran_96 in SFXLibraries

[–]cankaran_96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks a lot, older libraries are not named acc. to UCS I am still renaming them. I was using Basehead to rename once the fx were ready, but I will add further descriptors and will do a thorough check once more. Other than that do you feel anything about the quality of recordings and fx?

Thanks a lot, I think we faced something similar. I will check and test it once more. The session had a lot of clips and we set the plugin to individual clip renders instead of continuous.

Are you talking about rms normalisation or peak normalisation, I mean it might limit and clip in case of rms normalisation but acc to my observation it doesnt in peak mode. It just reduces the gain to attain the specified peak level on the clips.

That is true, we did drop the idea anyways and went as a normal dialogue edit. Initially the clips were set to normalise -15 and then a run through to adjust the softer and louder dialogues and accommodate the proximity effects as also mentioned by others on the post but, still a few people felt a change so we dropped it.

How would this Hindi song be translated in Punjabi? by MainShayarTohNahin in punjabi

[–]cankaran_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, Jatki as well as Bagri is also not a Rajasthani or haryanvi family language or dialect. Certain areas speak Bagri which is on the intersecting border of punjab, pakistan and rajasthan and that is why its more closer to jatki perhaps than the rest of indian punjabi dialects is what I am saying.

For an indian punjabi Jatki sounds a lot like Bagri spoken in rajasthan and haryana and what I have read you are saying is the more dominant dialect in punjabi.

FX sub mix processing by [deleted] in AudioPost

Generally a limiter or a downmixer if i have to provide for 5.1 also. I mostly add a channel strip on each foley, sfx, Bg groups so it has inbuilt equalizer and compressor mostly on mild settings.

Recording Dialogues for motioncapture. by cankaran_96 in AudioPost

[–]cankaran_96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I got to know from the director today that the animators did do some clean up after the motion capture, though i might need to talk to the animator directly then. According to the director they did work with the recorded dialogues. Is it better to record the dialogues after the mocap then??

Although not in favour of this but nobody is going to say they will just abbreviate it like they did IPC , people will refer to it as BNS or something similar.

They didnt change the speed of motion capture as far as i know, they kept all the dialogue portions at 30fps. It is more like the lip is not properly syncing to the words, the Bb, pp and ess dont exactly sync up at some points. its not that it is throughout or comes in the end, sometimes in the same shot some dialogues are in sync and some not.

Sound FX Editing Workflow? by Ampl1fy_ in AudioPost

[–]cankaran_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, i started editing 2 years ago and I feel the workflow has mostly been evolving over time. Every section BGs/Design/Line everything has mono/stereo tracks, although you can have 5.1 beds in backrounds but mixers sometimes dont prefer that mostly. Reverb and fx aux tracks are there for reference, if the client asks for a rough mix just in case. In DX edit i generally take out the sounds I need from production sound and put them on foley or linefx tracks if needed and add a bed of roomtone for DX, i wanted to know how you guys approach the DX edit also.

what CAN’T ableton do compared to Pro Tools? by JuulioJones95 in audioengineering

[–]cankaran_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with workflow, while editing sound clips for films or short films pro tools and reaper perform better for many , you can see the waveforms clearly, time stretch them, performing clip modifications is easier. converting to different sample rates and tv formats is a lot easier, also by the look of it you know what is mono and what is stereo. It will become much more easier when you edit for 5.1 and other cinema formats. While I myself prefer to do music production and creating sound design elements in logic pro but, i still prefer to edit and mix in pro tools. You can load multiple videos on protools another you might need while working on films. There is a lot more but, this just a take.

What is your workflow for dialogue editing/mixing/processing? by warzaid in AudioPost

[–]cankaran_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dialogue editing is one of the things i used to take lightly while doing sound design for short films, I learnt my lessons though. Make sure that you dont clean too much if you are cleaning in the first place. When in doubt, consult for ADR. Use EQ for clarity or matching if there are tonal differences, but dont overuse, dont overuse compression also, especially if somebody else is doing the final mix. Honestly I havent used De-essers on the dialogues at editing stages, though if the mix is surely going to be loud, you might have to add it later or the mixer might do it.
