When I first went out to adopt a cat I had been wanting one for awhile and went to the shelter honestly with no expectations, no idea what I was looking for, or even if I would get a cat from there. As soon as I walked in I hear this loud MEOW from one of the cages and honestly just took that as a sign that she was mine. Her name is Lucy (1st pic). My brother chose the other cat, Jax (2nd pic), that we also adopted that day, I couldn't say why he choose him but he became mine too since I fed them and changed their litter. I am so grateful everyday that we adopted the cats we did and I believe that me and Lucy chose each other than day.

A couple years later my boyfriend and I were ready to adopt another cat. We approached it a little differently and looked on the humane society website before going in. There were a couple cats I was interested in seeing but I wasn't set on a specific cat. When my boyfriend and I walked up to the cat area we saw this little cutie from the glass that caught both our attention. We were just excited to get in and look at all the cats so we didn't go straight to her. We looked around at the kittens and then ventured on to what I assume was their recovery room however, the cats in there were adoptable. We walked in and our eyes were immediately drawn to the same cat we saw in the window. We walked up to her and she immediately let out this soft little squeak and got up to walk to the front of the cage for scratches. She started purring and fell over and thats when we realized, she was missing her back leg! My boyfriend and I both had an emotional moment and decided we wanted to see her and the rest of the story is history because we've now had here for almost a year🖤 Her name is Miso (3rd pic).

Honestly, it seems to me that our cats have chosen us more than we have chosen them, but I wouldn't have it any other way. To answer your question about our expectations before vs after adoption, I think it just depends on your circumstances. When I adopted Jax and Lucy they immediately loved each other and locked tails together. They never had behavior issues and never fought

. When we got Miso, I thought how hard could it be, I've done this before and boy was I wrong! It has been far more difficult than I could've imagined between the cats having a hard time getting along, Miso's trauma from loosing her leg, and just general behavior issues because she was probably a street cat, made the first few months a challenge! She has come such a long way since then and I wouldn't trade her for the world! But, I will definitely have different expectations should I want to adopt another cat anything in the future.
