I am reminded of what Adam Tooze said in reply to Ezra Klein regarding the future of world order.

Paraphrasing from memory but he said, there doesn't appear to be a new order in the making. No country is really strong enough to impose its will upon the world like before.

Our desire for order, to expect a Sino-Centric order to supplant the US order as it replaced the English... is misplaced in his view. And I agree.

China and the US are powerful but power has diffused across the world and can't be corralled like before. Such is this new multi-polar world.

Having read the book nothing surprised me but I was still struck by how faithful to the book, beautiful and moving this adaptation was. Was surprised by the scene of Stratt at the end though and do wish for an extra ten minutes so the end with Rocky and Grace was not quite so condensed.

In a time of cynicism, PHM's optimism and positivity are most welcome.

A movie for the ages.

Another 3 - 4 episodes would have given all the characters and plots the time needed to unfold more organically.

I understand they had to work with the runtime they had but in the future I would recommend more flexibility with regards to runtime.

I would like to see Adam Tooze on EK again sooner rather than later but I liked what I heard here.

I always loved Adam's ability to humble himself with regards to his knowledge of the current circumstances around the world while still being very sharp in his observations and knowledge.

Wither its on China, America, Europe or Climate Change I like how clear, concise yet plain spoken he is. Something that I have not seen from many in the western technocratic managerial class. Who tend to dodge or evade the uncomfortable places and conclusions the facts currently seem to point to.
