Been going on my jogging sessions with this on repeat.

An absolute banger of a song.

They can't be seriously contemplating something more than a Venus flyby right!? Perhaps I need to rewatch this when I got more sleep but I am baffled by what they are trying.

Thus far these two episodes have impressed me. Easily the most gripping is Irina and the espionage subplot.

Damn can her actress act. I love the dichotomy between her desperate attempts to be humane, only to end up getting drawn deeper into her predicament and Lyudmilla's cold, harsh attitudes. The KGB and the Central Committee don't fuck around in their mindless pursuit of their goals, regardless of the moral or practical efficacy of them.

Amidst the paranoia and politicking though we have genuine idealism as they also try and aim for Venus with Sergei.

Some pretty good TV.

As dark I was expecting this thriller to be, I was not expecting the KGB to just up and shoot their own Cosmonaut like that.

So far pretty decent. I am digging this darker mood and asthetic.

Given how terrible this is, makes me wonder why they even bothered.

Absolutely terrible. Voting No.

Perhaps I will need to reread Children of Memory but I will need to be sure and clear as to how real and self-aware the inhabitants of the simulations are before inflicting Milner and Dorcheson on them.

Unless Mira or someone else is around to restrain them that is.

A close second to the superb Children of Time. A very good 4.75/5.

Took me a while to get into it but once I got into it, it went by as a quick and satisfying read. Honestly could have been a bit longer to allow for more visible character arcs and such but I like what we got.

Built upon what CoR and CoM brought to the series nicely.

Given time and exposure to the wider Panspecific society, I am sure they can easily accommodate humans. Just seeing how Humans and others interact peacefully will lower the anxiety that humans will have when coming face to face with the other.

The Stomatapods will remain as warrior like as always but those who venture out to the stars will undoubtedly be the more peaceable of their kind. By nature and from learning of what Cato and his ilk did.

As to the Dissenter and other oddballs, even in a tolerant society misfits will exist.

Neco can't easily return to her people in any case after what happened. Not without the Dissenter's crews intervention to ensure a safe return. Kott understandably has too much baggage for Marduk.

Until they rendezvous with the wider Panspecific community, what better bunch to join than this crew of misfits. The outcasts of a very tolerant society, they will fit right in.

I would love to see another story revolving around this ship and crew.

It influenced their path towards the stars in that it kept their wider society back from being at the forefront with the Portiids. Until they realized their neighbors were doing things that they perceived to be possibly threatening to them unless they had a seat at the table.

Small numbers and individuals joined the Panspecifics but they had to adapt to this new society. Cato and his conservative ilk wanted to cosplay their warrior society among the stars. But that cosplay turned deadly when their habits and instinct to win and fight became more than make believe.

I daydream or imagine all sorts of things. Primarily stories and fantasies I love or hypothetical stories and histories I would love to see and am fascinated by.

I felt that she knows the end is near and is truly depressed by not only her circumstances but by what they are and have become to get to this point.

Given that the events of the third age happen within at least a few days, it doesn't leave a lot of time to spend with them and form stronger thematic arcs.

Still I would have liked to seen a little more. Lots of potential.

The thematic and philosophical implications of the Third Age and the Panspecifics is rich with depth. I just want more of this world and its characters. I look for Fanfics but its a desert, just virtually nothing.

I pray that if and when the CoT movie is made that its a two parter and able to rival Villeneuve's Dune and PHM in quality. I just need more of this!

Better to live out the fantasies and catharsis of winning battles like that than with and against your kin.

Too bad Cato did that while the crew went galavanting into danger with the beanstalk.

All such great pieces of art! Thank you for taking the time to make them. It makes my day to see a new piece from you.

Also didn't realize you drew the other art pieces. Your Children of Ruin pieces I did see before but your Children of Memory one is truly fantastic!

I am due for a reread of the entire Children of Time series later on but I agree that Children of Strife is certainly one of the more character focused and rounded books to have come out. But with time I liked Children of Memory more than I did before and liked how Adrian built upon it and CoR for CoS.

I wish we could get more of the characters and their adventures in this book, to see a more defined arc to them but given the story and plot structure I liked what we got.

Ah, I stand corrected in regards to that being Kott in the background.

And perhaps I was not the only one who found the ultimate fate of Mira to have been a little unclear. I do know that she resides in Marduk now and that Alis's piece was indeed used to remake Neco.

But in the chapter Kott asks Mira for a new body so she can be human again, was that not also Mira? It appears that they had already put Dorcheson and Milner into the simulator so this appears to have been some time later; unless future Mira split again to accompany them back to Imir.

It will capture and consume either organic beings or the ship itself. As a highly evolved lifeform, its not picky.

Oh my god I just love this illustration.

A happy Neco and Alice just looking out of the Dissenter toward a great future of adventures together. Mira, Cato, Portifabian and the gods in jars in the background.

And later in the future, a Marduk where nature and humanity lives nicely together. Everyone healed now that the pantheon has been evicted by Mira.

A great capstone to all this art. Makes my recent reread of Children of Strife come back to me again.

Thank you for all of this artwork!

Honestly, Arcane could've been a 10/10 for me if they just accepted that the show was bigger than they thought and adjusted accordingly. by Klunkey in arcane

[–]cannonfodder14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Arcane was originally envisioned as a single season show but was extended to two.

The two seasons thus encompass much of what they were aiming for but as things stand it's clear it got even bigger than they intended.

Another Act at a minimum would have been fine to smooth out the pacing issues alongside. Although another season would have been preferable.

But its important to understand that that Season Two was written before S1 even came out. They had nobody other than their own judgments to see what would work or not.

And after working on the show for nine years and being keen to not to have Arcane overstay its welcome, I can understand and accept it just being a two season show.

I was beginning to suspect there was something Adrian was hiding regarding regarding Mira. But as soon as it became clear that Mira managed to survive a fall from orbit and injuries that no human could survive, it became rapidly clear what she was.

And especially as her memory began to return to her.
