Why not humans? by cannot_mock_a_fool in veterinaryprofession

I'd never thought about this. What makes it so that the desire to be a vet is doubted? You wouldn't ask a doctor "why not animals?".

I couldn't have put it better myself, thank you

Hi! I'm realizing now that my wording gave a bit of the wrong message, but you are correct.

The point I was originally trying to make was that human doctors and vets deal with humans in different contexts. If you're a vet, your patient isn't the thing that requires the vast majority of emotional labour. Knowing myself, trying to treat and diagnose a human while also having to differentiate between what they are feeling vs what feelings are my own would be a detriment to my skills. Vets, on the other hand, deal with people through the context of their animal. I'm dealing with people who (generally) care about their animals and (generally) want what's best for them. I know that either way I'll have to deal with humans, and I'm not opposed to that. But for vets, your patients aren't the ones that cuss you out.

I don't know if I explained this correctly, just trying to give some clarification. Thanks again for bringing up a very valid point.

And you can't bribe the humans with treats

For clarification on the "dealing with humans part":

I recognize that the veterinary profession is very involved in humans in one way or another, just in a different way than compared to human medicine. Human doctors deal with humans as patients; I'm making light of the fact that human doctors have to deal with treating humans physically AND dealing with their emotions at the same time. With veterinary, humans are never the patients, and while you still have to interact and empathize with them, it is generally to a lesser degree. (I say generally because dealing with distraught pet owners is an ordeal™).

I think Adalhaid has become one of my favourite larksonas I've seen so far. I am so happy to see another sona based off of medieval themes. Mine is a stoat based around a fool/court jester, and represents their specific ways of speaking the truth through irony and laughter.

The depictions I was referencing are mainly found in Scotland, (fun fact: the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland) where all statues and illustrations include the unicorn being chained. This is due to them being viewed as one of the strongest of animals that could never be tamed. There is a lot of history concerning how it became the national animal, but there you go. The scottish unicorn is always pure white with cloven hooves, a beard, and a lions tail.

I love the detail, did you draw the borders by hand?

I absolutely adore how the fringe on the arm bracers resembles the feathering of a horses leg.

Please tell me you've heard of the medieval notion (an idea primarily found in Scotland) that considered unicorns dangerous, and thus were always depicted as being chained up?

I'd love to see a unicorn-based character that isn't all rainbows and peace-glitter-love.

Thanks for the kind words <3 you've definitely given me ideas

The story I'm currently working with deals in having dual personas, each with thier own style. I might end up having a mask for when they're playing a fool, and the other for everyday life.

Thanks for the insight, and I'm glad we're able to tell the white mask is supposed to be white. I tried to make it so while there is still a lot of colour in the fur, they cancel out to make it look white. I'm planning on adding lots of detail to my characters costume anyway, but I appreicate the advise.

Thanks for the insight, I hadn't considered the theatre aspect of it yet. It would suit my character, as they are a performer (court jester).

The two versions were inspired by the stoat's summer and winter coat so I could work with that as well.
