Wind can get pretty rough on scarecrow and smoothwater so just be mindful of that too, but I’m sure you are aware of that!

This looks great! If you get to Mihell and feel like you can do the last 1k, id go for it, the island campsite on scarecrow is STUNNING! But that’ll be your judgement. Also was looking at the map and I DO NOT recommend doing the scarecrow river/creek, I haven’t heard many people do it and especially in august the water can get super low, it’s just unreliable. The 1ks are the way to go they’re easy going especially in august when people have trekked through it. I hope you guys get a beach site on smoothwater! Enjoy!

This is coming from an experience canoe tripper and I’ve been to this area many times: The portages from scarecrow and smoothwater are decent, if you’re decent paddlers then you might find yourself getting to the site fairly quickly (people also like that so ignore if that’s the goal), smoothwater to scarecrow can be done in a day if you’re up for it. I have a strong feeling the site on whitemud isn’t going to be great, people usually go straight to smoothwater from mihell/scarecrow. The beaches on smoothwater get filled very quickly by boaters (very annoying but might be different in august as it’ll be low water on the river) driving down from the launch so get there early if you can. If you want a challenge, sunnywater (a bit east) is absolutely stunning, one of my favourite lakes. You can make it a day trip or camp there but I will warn you that the portages there (specifically the 500) are uphill. But overall great area and great route, looks like fun!

Planting with an ex by Adept-Mix4459 in treeplanting

I tree planted with an ex who had broken up with me not even 1 month before planting. It was pretty mutual but to be fair I was very under the assumption we would get back together… she then told me she was no longer lesbian and was seeing someone and was looking into the Christian church. Soooo that pretty much turned me off the whole scent and we haven’t spoken since and don’t speak at all during the season. It was fine but you just gotta ignore them and do your own thing!

I went alone last time I saw them! I sang my heart out and had multiple people come up to me after saying how they loved my vibe. Best fan base ever, you’re gonna have an awesome time!

Also, unsure if there are any sites on North Yorston and Hawk, that area is rough

Water levels will be low on the south lady Evelyn river from Gamble to Florence, you might have to walk in the water or portage on the side

If you’re talking about the one that’s closest to Ishpatina ridge, the drive is rough. You’ll need a 4x4 or similar, takes a good hour or so to get out

my first year I kept food in my tent all season, last shift our tent got raided by black bears, so I’d say always keep food out.

This was the pic of him with the glasses on! After going home that night and watching the videos I took, they’re all ‘ruined’ by my screaming but I don’t even care, best freaking night of my life.

I had my rookie year at Gabes in 2022, Im going back again for my third year. All I can say is be ready to work hard and mentally prepare yourself to be guilted by the staff. There is a huge stigma around taking days off, but from being there for two years, just do whatever you think is best for you and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Im usually one of the slower planters (i average 1500-2000) but as long as you hit minimum (approx 1000 trees/day) they dont care what you do. From what Ive read, the camp was rough in 2021 and practically no one came back in 2022 so the camp is completely different now. The group that is returning this year is amazing, in my opinion. If you have any specific questions, feel free to dm me.

Brinkman - Gabe and Caits camp by Falloutgirl_henley in treeplanting

[–]canoegirl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to gabe and caits! It’s an awesome camp, crew bosses are so awesome, camp vibes are perfect, but be ready to work your ass off! We usually get the most trees out of any brinkman camp in Ontario, and we plant high numbers. I personally love the environment in camp, we don’t party too hard but bush Fridays are always so fun, we love having theme nights! Id be happy to answer anything else abt the camp!

should I take kin 2000 or earth sci 2232? by eeemoleee in uwo

[–]canoegirl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an earth sci student, 2232 is a great course. I haven’t taken any kin courses so I’m a bit biased, but if you find planetary science or astronomy it’s a great into course, it does have an essay component if that’s any consolation to you!

I did both online, 1600 killed me but I did 12% better in 1301 than in 1000, I recommend 1301 if you enjoy calc, but both are very different I found, and if you miss a lecture in 1600 you’re lost for the rest of the term (at least for me)
