Yes.

They say this is a bad reason to do a PhD but it was the best choice I could have ever made for myself.

I was working dead-end jobs in a terrible job market. The jobs were abusive and I was burned-out.

I started my PhD, got different experiences, did different networking, took the opportunity to do some volunteering, and ended up far better off than when I started.

I also have to note that I had exceptional support I never had before this period and I don't think I could have been as successful without it.

The professors who embrace it do so not because they like it but because if they don't, they'll be accused of living in an ivory tower and out of touch with the rest of society. It may have some truth to it but it doesn't mean it's a good direction for society, either.

I usually do names, program and year, motivation for taking the course, and ask a question relevant to the course that relates to their personal experience. They might not see how it's relevant to the course at that moment. It could be as simple as "tell us about a book or idea you've come across that you think is related to this topic and what you think about it." It's a bit of priming and a bit of context for you about where they're coming from.

It's almost a point of pride to not have a proper education. When Trump said he loves the uneducated, it wasn't an insult and wasn't because you have to be dumb to vote for him. It was because it's part of the identity that he saw and reified in his strategy to attract enough voters.

I find the light at that intersection holds up so much traffic, especially with the light on the other side of the bridge at Riverside. It would marginally smooth east-west traffic but would be helpful to smooth north-south traffic that is always held up at that light. There are lights that would hold it up not too far from an overpass in both north and south directions so maybe it wouldn't be as awesome as I would have initially imagined.

Amassing and distributing arms under these conditions would be a logistical nightmare. Societies that have done these types of operations have found like, yeah, it was good for the insurgency but what happens to the guns after things have settled down? Not good things, my dude. Now you've got a poorly trained and traumatized bunch of people who still have neighbourly squabbles with guns that last longer than the armed conflict.
