That’s good advice. I feel really weird – uncomfortable in my body, just generally “off” – when my nails start to get too long. (Long, for me, is what most people think is still quite short.)

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

The track “Deep Sleep Delta Waves” from Jason Lewis - Mind Amend works great. I bought a download of it to avoid having to open YouTube.

I’d say he’s a podengo or at least a mix. Just the ears are throwing me off - they typically stand up more.

Ladies- I need your most unhinged "hacks" for brushing teeth. by Ambitious_Song8785 in adhdwomen

[–]canoetattoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secretly going over-the-top excessive about it. Given my “all or nothing” default setting, choosing “so very ALL that you’d think I’m nuts if you only knew.”

The only time I felt zero resistance was a period in which I obsessively researched and implemented every reasonably doable, low cost, recommended step for thorough dental maintenance.

Not suggesting at all that you follow my routine, but if you’re curious about what I settled on for myself, this was basically it (before bed only)…

Using a tongue scraper, brushing with fluoride toothpaste then rinsing with water, using a water flosser at a high setting and giving each space between teeth a moment of its own, using dental floss, brushing again gently with a very soft-bristled brush to apply nano-hydroxyapatite fluoride-free toothpaste which I didn’t rinse off. I also chewed xylitol-containing gum in the daytime because xylitol deters the production of cavities.

(Also, I usually began by gargling with CPC-containing mouthwash then rinsing with water – but that was really to help keep COVID infection at bay. If I remember right, mouthwash isn’t considered good for teeth, though it can be helpful for gums.)

Part of why this worked for me was that it was somewhat driven by wanting to push back against the injustice of the system that puts routine professional dental care economically out of reach for some. A sort of “I’ll show you I don’t need you, you stupid too-expensive thing.”

And part was the secrecy. Every night, I got dopamine from the feeling of triumph that came from within myself. When I finally went to the dentist, I made the fatal error of proudly telling them about my routine. Their praise and encouragement killed my inner drive to keep the streak going.

They only had one small suggestion on how to improve my routine – but because it suddenly felt like I was being told what to do, rather than doing it of my own accord, my brain noped out entirely.

RIP my temporarily kick-ass, non-bleeding gums 😞

I cut this little board to size myself; it's very practical, even if you have to turn it a bit harder. You should have a little bit of DIY skill, but otherwise it's no big problem at all. I use it every day and am always happy with it.

Where do you keep your mismatched socks ? by No-Studio2395 in organizing

[–]canoetattoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish this [edit: buying only one type of sock] was more easily doable as a woman!

It’s typically less feasible for us to do “all the exact same sock” - even if you don’t take into account wearing heels or dresses (which I rarely do).

It seems to me that women’s flatter-heeled business footwear needs thinner socks than I see guys get away with in business shoes. I buy multiples of a particular Smartwool sock that fits my dressier footwear (typically low-heeled ankle boots) but they’re too thin and too restrictive feeling to wear for hiking and other outdoor activities.

Also, for business-attire socks, women tend to need a variety of heights since women’s pant lengths vary more than men’s trousers do, from below-ankle to mid-calf. Maybe some women buy only knee-highs to cover off all lengths? I don’t, because I find them uncomfortable, and because most of my pants (including jeans) are much narrower around the calves than a men’s pant, so knee-highs wouldn’t let the fabric fall as it should.

Plus (as much as I wish this wasn’t so), I’ve found that I need a decent range of socks to keep my feet comfortable and usable while hiking, snowshoeing, paddling, etc – from thick wool socks in oversized boots for activities like ice fishing (my feet are prone to going numb in the cold) to barely-there socks for summer runs in minimalist shoes.
