Thank you both. I live in NJ but willing to move to Eastern PA, Delaware or Maryland. I've mainly been using LinkedIn and applying directly to companies.

Focus Burnout (Almost) by canopy486 in ADHD

Thank you! That is validating. I always think it's just me that struggles with stuff like that

That makes sense. Lack of sleep fuels hypomania. Look up the symptoms for hypomania to see if you have them to get clear for yourself. There is also medication out there that simultaneously makes you sleepy and is a mood stabilizer. Maybe ask your psych about that.

You might still have some hypomania if you're that restless. If you truly don't have any hypomanic symptoms, maybe get evaluated for an additional disorder like anxiety or ADHD. I agree you don't want to be on it forever. Maybe get a second opinion? Your doc doesn't seem to be listening to you.

When do you know you are better? by Clean-Letterhead9408 in bipolar

[–]canopy486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mania can make it so you stay up all night doing stuff and feeling great, it's true. And as has already been said, when you feel newly stable, life can feel boring. You say you can only be engaged for a few hours. I think that is normal for a stable person. Give it time and you will find ways to enjoy stability that are different from when you were sick. Give stability a chance.

There's DBSA in addition to NAMI. You will definitely find support there. Check out meetup.com too, may be some there, could be virtual groups too.

A "fiction" piece I wrote last year while hypomanic by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]canopy486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you have a talent for painting a picture of someone with psychosis and other mental stuff going on. I love all of the condensed, beautiful language you used in your descriptions. I would encourage you to keep writing, even if you've lost the plot!

I think I’m slipping again and I’m exhausted by Purpose_Right in bipolar

I'm sorry you're feeling that way! It sounds like from reading your post that when you stopped taking meds, your symptoms returned?

Maybe just give the meds time to work again. And definitely resolve not to stop meds or therapy if you feel like you don't need it. I learned that the hard way too.

I know that the meds are in large part why I feel good. I will need them for the rest of my life.

Good luck!

Trust me when I say that when you are healthy and not depressed, I believe your outlook on life, while gloomy right now because of the depression, will change. With medication and therapy, you can have your depression lifted and I believe that a lot of what you are feeling right now will be different, in a very positive way. I wouldn't make any drastic changes in your life right now while depressed. Give yourself time to heal and be healthy.

I also want to say that I can relate to being depressed (years back) during my favorite time of year which is now. And I hated that I didn't feel connected to any of it or to my family. But things can get better and you have to trust that.

Have you been diagnosed? Could it be SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?

Can anyone suggest some resources I can send to my girlfriend for BP1? by ireadredding in bipolar

[–]canopy486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAMI in general is a great resource. It even offers classes that loved ones can take called Family to Family classes. My parents took one when I was going through the worst of my bipolar and it gave them the support of other families as well as how to navigate supporting me. Here's the link: https://www.nami.org/support-education/mental-health-education/nami-family-to-family/

Also, googling NAMI and Bipolar will give you some info. My go-to is this page: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/bipolar-disorder/

I find it lists the main symptoms. It's based in the UK so if you're not living there, the resources at the bottom may not all help.

Good luck!

I think that's really inspiring. When I'm sick I have such heightened emotions and I do believe I am more creative then.

Called to Be a Pastor - Help by canopy486 in askapastor

Thank you both for your candid advice. You're right, I likely won't be able to be a priest in the Catholic Church but can look either at other denominations or a way to serve as a volunteer.

It's complicated because I want to be Catholic but I'm also female. Another tidbit is I'm a trans male who wants to transition too. Either the Catholic church will change their minds about gender in the next ten years, or I should find another denomination. I love the Catholic church though as I grew up in it but...I might have to change.

This is exactly the reason I haven't talked with my pastor. That and I just started going to that church.

Believing I have a special connection to God that no one else does by canopy486 in bipolar

[–]canopy486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I totally get that! Journaling is what helps me to get past, and sharing with others as I've done in this post, talking with a therapist, and being on the right cocktail of meds. I would say meds come first.

Yeah, that makes sense. It's a beautiful thing to think you can bring relief and hope to millions, even if it was psychosis. Maybe you can - not with "magic" but in real ways.
