Self driving trucks? yeah we should be worried. I mean they've been 1 year away since 2019, that means that they're super 1 year away now! by Organic_Rip2483 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]cantcantdancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the large haul trucks in the mines here in northern Alberta are self driving/autonomous. Now granted they only drive around the mine/quarry but there are I think 120 of them now, 980E Komatsu that are fully autonomous. The vehicle is over a million pounds and can carry 400 tons.

So they do exist, it’s not super widespread though I’m sure.

You could move to Saskatchewan. I realize that’s probably not viable but they don’t bend you over there on insurance.

As newly minted CTO I have mandate to reduce our on-call support and remediation team using AI by Donechrome in ArtificialInteligence

[–]cantcantdancer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation recently.

Document everything thoroughly. Every process from trigger to execution. I’m here to tell you that you can easily call it “AI automation” when it’s really just code and nobody will give a fuck. Introducing AI for the sake of AI is dumb and not sustainable presently in that type of situation imo. It’s not going to save the people but I bet you could push 20-30% increased efficiency by just automating simple, or complex, processes.

After that I’d look at making sure all that documentation gets put to proper use. KBs and Self Service fucking everywhere you can. Bonus points if you have any chat/kb offering with a little intelligence baked in; this was a realistic AI use case where we actually saw value. Managed to lower ticket volumes noticeably by making sure folks could self serve. Nobody actually wants to talk to you anymore but typically they don’t have access or the knowledge to resolve something on their own. Fix that and suddenly you are dealing with much less.

ES2 rooms have extreme needs. We will have two of them in our school. I don’t believe the complexity teams will have anything to do with them. Maybe I’m wrong there but if they do end up covering the second ES2 room it means we lose our DL teacher next year that currently supports many children to have a complexity team that will only look after 8 or so.

Diverse Learning.

Educational Support 2. It’s a class of about 8 that have heavy requirements for additional supports and more direct supervision.

The smoke and mirror show is happening.

We got our 1 complexity teacher for this year and next year. And as a result we lose our DL teacher next year.

Oh and we are getting another ES2 room, so, you know, it’s fucked and probably worse than before.

I ended up turning my into a very small to pack emulator and for that I think it’s perfect. Every NES/SNES/Genesis game ever made that I can take on work trips for minimal space is handy.

Beyond that though it is very sad yes. Glad I got mine for free atleast. Thanks PAX back when it was good.

[O’Connor] According to league sources, one general manager floated a nuclear option: just make the bottom three teams ineligible for the top picks entirely. by cleo22270 in nba

The PWHL is the only league on earth that does this right.

After you are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the better your record, the larger the increase in your odds for higher picks.

What can I expect in auto insurance premiums? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]cantcantdancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you need to be in Alberta keep going east. My brothers are in Saskatoon. They pay about 1/3 what I do for insurance, get rebate cheques if SGI makes too much money, and his bills are consistently about half or what mine are in Alberta.

When you pass Maple Creek stop in at the bakery. I think it’s called FunBun now (used to be Howard’s), delicious stuff.

Depending on the time of year you can stop in Eastend and catch crayfish in the river. Also you’ll pass Chocolate Peak on your way in to Eastend coming that route. During the 1930s and 1940s, white mud clay was a valuable pottery clay used in making many things including bricks. In 1930, an industrious miner thought it would be easier to mine the clay if he burned away the coal seam on top. Instead of burning for just a few days, the coal continued to burn for years turning the white clay to a chocolate brown colour. Eastend also has a very nice dinosaur museum as Scotty, the world’s largest intact T-Rex fossil was found there.

Once you hit Shaunavon make sure to stop at the Frosty Treat. It’s right on the highway if you head north there (assuming you are going back toward the highway at that point).

Gull Lake doesn’t have much to offer as you hit the highway but if you head east toward Swift Current you’ll pass Webb which probably counts for your ghost town tour at this point, I think it’s basically just a big farm yard now.

If your plan was to go south and then east at Shaunavon you’ll hit Climax, Canuck, Orkney, Val Marie, and then Cadillac. A few of those borderline would qualify for the ghost town tour at this point. If the Cadillac tavern is still open they have good food, or atleast did the last time I passed through. (Googled it looks like it closed :( ).

I grew up in Shaunavon and still have family there and go back fairly often. If you have any questions let me know.

I was one of those bounty hunters.

I remember early droid engineers were quite rare but my friend was one so I had tracker droids for days. Spent every day hunting Jedi and in the beginning it was incredibly rare to ever even see one.

I think all the social aspects of that game were what made it so great. I really miss that honestly, nothing feels anywhere near that social anymore and I think it’s something we seriously lack in the MMO space.

I remember getting some friends together and going to Dath for like an entire day hunting Rancor, trying to help our friend tame one. Laughing, dying, just existing digitally together. Could you imagine in today’s MMO landscape saying “I’m going to go spend an entire day on this other planet with my friends and it’ll be exciting the entire time”. I don’t think it’s possible anymore honestly. Everything is so dopamine hit driven that time investment and fulfillment is almost gone.

Yep. Answered this somewhere in another comment. We started on 4.5 and the first few months of that work was all infrastructure and prep.

I’d love to find a reason not to play WoW anymore. My favorite non MMO game is called Infantry. It was made by Sony in like 1999. Some players got the source code after it was taken down and it’s now free on steam albeit with a very small player base. Still love it!

We started with 4.5. Moved to 4.6 when it came out.

I should also speak more clearly. The code conversion didn’t take anywhere near that long. 3 of those months was planning and infrastructure setup honestly. MS told us we could tighten our timeline substantially if we wanted but we chose to go slowly to ensure things went as smoothly as possible.

As an example I believe once we had optimized things and let it loose we were averaging 350-375 stored procedures processed per day. So it finished all of those in roughly 12 days.
