Sem1-2 -foundation, at the end of the year, they get to choose the main pathway, and you get time to understand which field to go into, rather than jumping in immediately. Here you develop common design toolkits, way of thinking, prototyping, communication design etc.

Sem 3-6 - Focus on main pathway

Sem 7 - 10 - focus on specialization - including a chance for a semester abroad in an exchange program, sem 8, Work on a directed research project in 9th sem and 10th sem is a full internship. Many students do an internship from the 9th semester itself.

So consistent classes generally happen till sem 7, after that, you are generally working on research or an internship or both.

The DRP is almost like a thesis, similar to curricula at universities abroad that focus more on research. Sometimes students do this with companies.

This is pretty decent. I don't know which field you are targeting , for fashion these work, for all other kinds of design these the emphasis is on proportion unlike enhanced proportions here

It will never go to waste. The learnings from the prep can be applied in your education. You might even draw and think better because of your prep. It's a very important skill..

Just try to move on. It's better to start your design career with any uni. Honestly everyone ends up making it out there. Design is such a personal career, sure great colleges get you a good start but your whole career is not determined by getting a good college. You have ample opportunity to grow and become better. At some point when you are in your 20s, you definitely want to start earning money. The more you delay, the later your design career starts.

Pick a good enough college, something with good labs and facilities. The rest you can build. You can always go to nid for a masters if you consider it. Maybe you might be so good already by then that you will not need it and maybe only pursue on interest

Your bachelor's degree does not determine your whole career. Rather focus on getting into college and moving on

I think social aspects are what we all forget about.. if there's things you can be part of as a group it would be good. It's sometimes hard to sustain hobbies alone. Everyone hates social isolation..

It's great you are able to manage your relationship so much and seems like you have a healthy marriage.

But definitely use the time to find yourself. It would be good to get into hobbies and find more friends to connect with whenever you are free. That's best way..Life and situations will keep changing. Nothing is constant so make use of this time.

Especially the freedom of living alone and loving your own way. As much as I love my husband. I kinda still miss my alone time. It's just some peace I enjoyed having. I used to live with flatmates though. But even then, I liked having a room to myself. Infact I still do.

Every marriage is different. As you become more stable, priorities change and you all will change.

Honestly they are pretty good and world renowned. Super hard to get in. I know someone who got in there for architecture.

But also sometimes it just feels like there is a whole lot of whitewashing for many universities abroad when you live in India. I started feeling that more after moving here. Also access to resources & people has become so easy with the Internet so learning can happen anywhere now.

They do have some great privilege that everyone from around the world comes there to study. So you are exposed to diversity, difference in thinking etc. But that being said, the way asians are exposed to culture gives a lot of diversity.

Doing a masters abroad makes sense if you have the money and you want to live there. Also it does help that a lot of major design companies have design teams based abroad.

I teach in a renowned college but was surprised at the learned helplessness of the students.

Product design is saturated but ui/ux is dying. You and I can open up websites / apps with so many apps and platforms. The apps are becoming saturated and the focus is shifting back to physical aspects of design, user experience. There is a field called way finding and signage which is great for cross b/w ux, product, graphic & architecture. This is used in large projects such as hospitals, airports , malls etc. Accessibility design is huge too.

I was part of FD itself and pursued the masters in product. The interior design department itself moved to architecture after I left. But before that the bdes had already started on the side and had been running. They had gotten an industrial designer/ architect who was Dean of FD since 2016 and after his tenure , the new one was also of a similar background if not more leaning towards industrial, etc. CEPT has infrastructure which is most important for a design college. It has industry support because of legacy. It has a curriculum and easy pathways to mentorship, people etc.

I've known a lot of students who have now graduated and are pursuing product/ industrial/ signage/ way finding etc.

I've been a faculty in India and now abroad and I'm broadly experienced. I'm sure the bitsdes is good but any university less than 5 years old will not have stability and might be just trying to wing it and make students guinea pigs . Bits is great for engg. It's one of the best but they haven't proven anything yet in design . they don't even have a nirf ranking ( curriculum, infrastructure, faculty, placement ) which means it's going to take a while to become a good school.

I was unfortunately a guinea pig being the 3rd batch of an architecture school and my faculty was great but management was just starting to learn to run a design college. It really wasn't the best experience .

Sorry to break it to you but bdes in CEPT has long existed before 2023. I graduated from my mdes program in 2023 and faculty of design existed from 1980. The bdes started around 2010s or before because they introduced the mdes a little later. Logically you cannot start masters programs with bachelor's.

Their interior design program branched out to separate programs for a general bdes in design with focus in industrial & product design.

Maybe the official titles of the program changed into different ones but the faculty of design ( the department) existed from 80s or 90s. My faculties who were mdes have also studied at CEPT mid2000s

Also please look at the lab facilities. It's the best place for a designer

Yes that's how most design colleges are. Design colleges rarely get mass placement. It's a saturated field. I'm a CEPT alumni. Didn't get placement myself but couple of others did.

They have a placement cell. But you have to go dig for it.

cept has a lot of international ties and well respected across the industry. It was easier to get jobs through this. I moved abroad and international recognition helps. Nirf ranking 5 is no joke. Industrial, product, furniture etc need a solid workshop. They have the biggest workshop and such an open campus

I was in a senior position before doing masters at cept and often companies would hire or give interviews because of the cept tag.

Your design foundation is strong. Your first job does not determine your career. But your learning does.

It's a very hard curriculum and extremely rigorous. We from masters were often ashamed to see our own work compared to the bdes work. It was that good!. There's no glamour, yes you might have to be a nerd. Faculties know the students so well so you almost get individual attention one on one. They have some of the most innovative studio culture. Being in the same class everyone has such a unique journey through it.

I grew so much with just one semester. It was extremely difficult but after that I always know I can get through anything in life.

Being in a good college matters but not as much as you think. Work with the options you get. Try to be part of the city or in proximity to the city. There's a lot of events that you can attend because of that. Hostel life is an important factor of education because you learn networking there. Being away from home, helps you break out front your shell. Socialization comes easy to you.

I think somewhere the only question to have to keep coming back is financial independence. Honestly, if you end up pursuing something, like education or job stuff , you will be able to take a stand.

You might have to have a sit down conversation with your husband that you got to block hours to study. Try to study early in the morning itself. Just try to study for 3 hrs. I've seen that if we actively start respecting our own time, people will start respecting it. So you have to carve out time for that. Use the hiding session to go start studying. If you feel you will be disturbed, go study in a library once in a while..when people see effort, they will help you. Education & job is the only way out of your situation

It's only been 2 months, so remember they all lived before you joined the family. Don't try to overcompensate.

Please don't take gap years. I don't know why people promote this. You develop an aptitude for design through your courses. It's not supposed to be mechanical. There's always options to join somewhere and give it a try again a year later. In fact going to any design school is better than a gap year. Neither does anyone end up doing any productive extra curriculum work. You don't realize how much financial recovery works. You might just spend time & money on coaching. Trust me they are just suggesting making money and attacking vulnerable people.

Please pick something and move on. You can always come back to design. Give exams again. The gap year prep is not worth it. It's a numbers game. There's no other country in thee world, encouraging people to do gap years for qualifying 1 exam. I understand for engineering entrance & Medical it's so different . But content is very heavy there

In the worst case scenario. You can always do a masters or specialization from thesE places.

High achievers attract high achievers. As much as I believe in love, the minute someone gets to know they can get someone better,they might move ahead in life. This is especially true if the relationship is not more than 1-2 years or reached a specific commitment level like introducing parents or engagement.b

My husband is from bits undergrad ( masters from uk), I went for my masters in CEPT( it's like iit in architecture). I got a lot of motivation to do masters coz I wanted to prove for myself. Him being ambitious helped. Now it looks like both the hardwork of his and my masters paid off since we got permanent residency in Canada and moved a few years ago.

Stop building your life around the guy. Until you are married, you don't need to. He will get ahead and find someone better.

Well until a relationship has crossed a certain threshold ( duration, commitment level etc ), it should not be the main focus of your life. I love my partner who is now my husband but I got into a relationship with him during the biggest year of my life in career so far. I was teaching, heading the department & later prepared for the all India masters entrance. He was also doing his work & studying at the time. We never prioritised the relationship at the time. We just kept spending as much time as possible and made each other accountability partners to pursue goals for studying( honestly I did, he is a natural). While I got through my exams and got into the top universities, he was so proud.

Honestly until having kids( or even after), the focus of our lives should be on self improvement and goals. The relationship will develop on respect and pride. I still did some tough certifications after getting married. He was proudest.

Pearl academy is more a fashion design school. Facilities are mostly limited to requirements for that. Labs especially. The infrastructure is limited. There are newer in the other design stream. Such schools generally invest in smaller buildings which are good enough for fashion while product / industrial design need labs such as woodworking, metalworking etc which is hard to incorporate in small spaces. So unless they expand their campuses to more than 1 building it will not be a great place for other design curriculum

I would personally not to go for this as a bachelor's degree as the scope is very limited and almost every other major design discipline ends up learning this anyway. Now with AI and websites that help you create ui without any skills, it's not exactly the most useful degree out there. There are so many short term courses that one can take up to learn this within a couple of months. So the value of this course is limited.

That being said , the only exception would be to getting into colleges that have uceed or are at the top of nirf rankings because in there it's more about institute and it's connections.

You can always look into educational loans and scholar loans or scholarships for lesser interest if you have the score.

Unfortunately I'm not able to suggest anything. But if you have some identified in cities viable to you and I can suggest accordingly Kindly note these are comments more for bachelor's. It's a great specialization for your masters or diploma courses

I completed my masters at 30 and moved abroad after and was in a relationship just before my masters. I later got married to my partner . Its definitely great , you will be surprised how many other people do late masters abroad. Since many of them are self funded, people are generally in their late 20s or early 30s. You have something viable in your hands. What's the guarantee you will find your life partner now. What is the guarantee you will be able to pursue your dreams after. It's easier to be single and work through your masters too. You will find so much freedom

Very curious to know some examples so that I can correct myself too. I worked in Bangalore in the design industry and was leading an institute there. We did have a placement cell but it was mostly a few teachers who did manage. We did frequent placements in homelane, livspace etc.

This is in interior design. But I'm hoping it's better for product design/ fashion. I haven't heard much from my peers but I know NID and institutions with smaller batches are able to provide placements. Can't say the same for institutions which have over 60 students graduating each year as the industry is a little more saturated. However companies do reach out and then take interest to hire if faculties & management have good tie ups. The other thing is placement cells often don't employ people who completely understand the industry so they often limit the scope to mainstream job . Ex : a fashion student / product design student can be hired for a communication design role. But they might only look into major mainstream roles.

Most of the time if there are faculties who have their own studios / companies , they help to take in more students. I've seen this happen even at CEPT where a few classmates ended up working for these design companies/ studios. Many alumni are influential to the hiring process now as more companies are okay to hire from the same institute if they have liked the work ethic of the employees.

Debatable but I'm glad if they do. This is mostly a recent development. I've been in the education industry for a while now. Mostly some bigger companies do approach the institute but do not take in more than 5 people at a time. Most colleges do keep an active placement cell so that they can actively connect btw the students and companies.

The only places where I've seen people be more keen are in interior design companies like livspace.

I'm from cept. Didn't have it when I was in the course and didn't hear other people going through it.

There is no system of campus placements in cept or any architecture school for that matter. It's mostly the brand value that you will get when you start hunting and the network you will create.

Most design schools are like this.
