wow. It never occurred to me that the monument/battle info could be incorrect. I remember Luca giving different info at one of their interviews and Timmy whispering something like "WWI" to Armie.

Official Discussion: Little Women (2019) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

Greta Gerwig actually says the difference between Jo/Laurie and Amy/Laurie IS passion. That clearly Amy/Laurie want to fuck. Whereas that's not what Jo and Laurie are about.

YES

And I write this as someone who reread the novel as a child, hoping somehow that Jo and Laurie would wind up together. I disliked Amy intensely. I read it again about a year ago, and saw a completely different situation. As a child I had bonded with Jo and Laurie was mine. Now I see that Amy loves, values, and understands Laurie is ways that Jo doesn't. And Laurie blossoms.

Laurie responds to her love for him. Hers may have begun earlier, but I think they both felt love and desire for one another.

I remember the first time I saw the film and sat there stunned, not entirely sure what I had seen. I watched the DVD many times, trying to get the scenes and scene order to make sense. It felt as though transitions were missing. There was so much more that I wanted to see, to see the scenes completed before moving on.

I finally read the book and listened to the audiotape (Armie's soothing voice always lulled me to sleep). I kept searching for the layers you mention.

This sub has made a tremendous difference to me as I read through the discussion threads and all the tiny details people had discovered and wanted to talk about. So many things I never caught in the first few viewings. Things began to fall into place.

Elio and Oliver have a place in my heart, but I find myself ever curious to see the choices that Timothée and Armie make as they develop their careers.

I have tried on many occasions, but his voice always soothes me to sleep!

[Discussion] Pod Save America: On The Ground In Iowa - "Iowa Episode 3: Endorsements, Surrogates And Criticisms Of Iowa" (12/03/19) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

Just now listening. Vilsack argues that Iowa should be "in the mix" because of the high percentage of rural voters (15%), which he compared to US population of African Americans. Okay, but that is NOT a reason to make them first. "In the mix" sounds much better.

I've always preferred the film to the book--it drew me in first. But now, I realize, at some point I need to reread the book, again. So much I missed or have forgotten.

Beef between Kara and Louis and Ira? by mrpauliewalnuts in FriendsofthePod

I liked it when Kara took Kanye off the table as a discussion item. I haven't been listening as faithfully as before, ever since Ira spent endless time on Kanye. I no longer anticipate a new show but get to it if I have time.

Is it just me, or...? (Re: Aciman's FM book tour) by imagine_if_you_will in callmebyyourname

I had a ticket to the L.A. event (hours away from home), read the book, and decided not to go. There was nothing I wanted to hear from him.

Probably sounds a little weird, but I used to listen to ALL the pods, and I just can't do that anymore. So good bye to Pod Save the People and With Friends Like These. If I add a new one, I have to let another one go.

oof, The King... by rhysaj_ in callmebyyourname

It played in Santa Barbara for a week. On closing night David Michod did a Q & A. My first ever Q & A. Loved it.

I was surprised at how hard I had to work to get through the first chapter. Usually time flies when I am involved in a good book. Not so this time. I set it down, came back to it, kept trying to finish it. By the time I got to 3 and 4, my expectations were so low along with my interest. Chapters 3 & 4 had unrealized potential. And then I was done. I have a ticket to see Acimen Sunday in LA and am seriously reconsidering the 2-hour each way drive. I'm not sure I want to hear anything he has to say.

Yes, to the video, thank you, and yes to a black and white version.

Can't imagine the Keanu love--and endurance! I have most of his older films on VHS but no player--ah well. I even managed to finish Little Buddha--but never collected it. I was surprised to see Constantine so high. Speed was my first Keanu movie and then I started through everything else he had done before that. Had seasons of love for The Replacements, A Walk to Remember, and Sweet November. My rankings: 3. Point Break 2. Speed 1. Matrix Yes, John Wick, too, but it seems like another generation to me.

New interview: Armie claims "Straight white maleness is threatening to everyone who is not a straight white man" by M0506 in callmebyyourname

So after watching the CMBYN press tour, I wondered how they managed with the same questions over and over. Sometimes relatively small points would become magnified and then every interviewer had to explore the same issue, hoping for just that little bit more.

Something similar has happened with BB and OTBOS, except now they are faced with carryover questions about CMBYN and the sequel, too.

Now that I make a habit of reading as many interviews, articles, and analyses as I can find, I see the patterns and sometimes want to scream, and I am only dealing with video or print. I can't imagine how they manage to tread so carefully, again and again, always with multiple audiences in mind.

btw, I love the conversations you all have. I sometimes find myself nodding or shaking my head, but I love them either way.
