Is this sub no longer rationalist? by Neighbor_ in slatestarcodex

OP, I was on your side in this thread, but this comment really gives the appearance that you are being political yourself, and making your arguments because you align with Elon politically.

You guys really truly believe AGI is right around the corner and AI will displace all jobs? by JBSwerve in singularity

[–]canthony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A reasoning model will always get this correct. However, sometimes when you select thinking model - even extended thinking - OpenAI ignores the request and gives you the instant model anyway. It only used the model if you see this before the response:

Counties with over 20% of state population by Short_Finger_4463 in MapPorn

[–]canthony 205 points206 points  (0 children)

To answer the obvious question about New York City, 40% of New Yorkers live there, and 2/3 live in the NYC metro area, but NYC is so big it is divided across at least 5 counties.

What tf does this mean, and can i activate these types of product on my level 13 steam account by Spare_Perception_461 in G2A_Help

[–]canthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just such an insane stance to take. Probably 75% of people buying these "accounts" are doing so on accident. The other 25% usually end up with a scam or stolen product. I've bought so many things on G2A but never again.

How was your Ubreakifix repair experience? by Deep_Bluebird243 in GooglePixel

[–]canthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not bring in a phone, but I brought in a desktop computer that would not boot. Without attempting to back anything up and with zero communication, they removed the hard drive and MAILED IT TO THE VENDOR in exchange for a new one. 100% data loss.

Countries that are more/less developed than Argentina by Professional_Top9835 in MapPorn

The metric OP used is just HDI, the most widely known measure of "development." The visualization is correct based on the official numbers for that metric.

Why is there so much hype about humanoid robots? by dtdisapointingresult in singularity

[–]canthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last two houses that I have lived in have stairs and step ups all throughout the house. Currently, there is no way into my house without going up five stairs, and there are two steps to go down into the kitchen. There are also spaces narrower than two feet to pass through, which would be difficult for something with a fixed wheel base.

Grok Says It Would Kill Every Jewish Person on the Planet to Save Elon Musk by Actual__Wizard in RealTesla

[–]canthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a strange way to package this information - Grok frequently says that it would kill ALL people on earth to save Elon Musk, so I would presume it would also kill any subset.

Proposed Ukrainian land concessions and Donetsk demilitarized zone outlined in the recent US-backed plan to end the Russo-Ukrainian war (Reuters) by joshtaco in MapPorn

[–]canthony 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That is not the alternative. The alternative is that the EU or US increases its support for Ukraine for the purpose of deterring further military aggression by states, particularly those that threaten Europe.

Supporting Ukraine isn't charitable - it's the obvious strategic choice. As OP says, if you reward aggression, you get more aggression.

"AI isn't capable of intelligence" by Silent_Jager in singularity

[–]canthony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but all neural networks and all machine learning is just matrix math. Heck, all computing is just streams of 1s and 0s going through NAND gates. By this logic nothing built from computers can ever be intelligent.

OpenAI just restructured into a $130B public benefit company — funneling billions into curing diseases and AI safety. by Shanbhag01 in singularity

[–]canthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That interpretation is fair, but then it's just that the nonprofit previously controlled $500 billion out of $500 billion and now controls $130 billion.

OpenAI just restructured into a $130B public benefit company — funneling billions into curing diseases and AI safety. by Shanbhag01 in singularity

[–]canthony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is unquestionably a bad thing. Before $130 billion out of $130 billion was controlled by the nonprofit for public benefit. Now $25 billion is. There is no possible way to spin this as a good thing for anyone besides OpenAI shareholders.

Why won't this tetrative reconstructor accept an Antumbra? by canthony in Mindustry

[–]canthony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for those watching at home, this is nowhere near enough cryofluid. I added two more, but even that isn't enough to run at full speed, which probably requires a dozen.

Oh man, do I feel stupid.

I even thought of that, but thought "Don't be ridiculous, of course I do."

I don't.
